Kin-iro no Corda (La Corda d’Oro) ~primo passo~ episode 17

Hino spends some time in the rooftop, thinking about what happened the other day with Tsukimori… Shimizu-kun also goes to the rooftop, and notices a musical piece of hers that was lying on the floor (it’s Melody, which is what she’s going to play in the 3rd selection) As usual, Shimizu-kun lacked sleep because he practiced all night and didn’t notice that it was already morning ^^;; Shimizu went there to read a book, so Hino offered him a seat… when he was going doggy-dogdy while reading the book due to his sleepiness, and was about to “fall” asleep (literally) so Hino grabbed his hand and ended up sleeping on his lap.

Hino thinks about how Shimizu has always been giving his best when it comes to music… then Yunoki comes and says “how sweet”. Then he asks Hino whether she’s improving. Hino was surprised by this greeting and asks him why he didn’t tell her “Hurry and quit”, like he did last time. Yunoki tells her that he won’t say that to someone at her present state (down and depressed)

After class, Hino decides to practice in the rooftop, when he hears Tsukimori playing. Wanting to avoid him, she spends some time just standing on the stairs, when Tsuchiura and Hihara sees her. She tells them the excuse of deciding it would be better to practice in the music room instead of the rooftop. Hihara mentions about wondering what happened between Hino and Tsukimori (since she started acting that way after that activity with Ousaki-sempai) , which makes Tsuchiura confront Tsukimori, as he has been thinking that Tsukimori is the most likely reason for Hino to be acting that way. He rushes to the rooftop, where Tsukimori’s practice is interrupted by his sudden appearance.

Tsuchiura asks him what he said to Hino, that she has been depressed, and was seen by them a while ago in the same state while going down the stairs. Tsukimori replies that she didn’t come to the rooftop… Tsuchiura tells him “Don’t you think it’s weird that she would act that way if nothing happened?” Tsukimori nonchalantly replies “Won’t it be better if you ask her yourself then? And you guys seem to have such free time when you know that it’s already the competition tomorrow. Don’t you think this isn’t the time to be worrying about her? And besides, whatever has happened to her has nothing to do with us” Tsuchiura becomes furious about this, and grabs him by his tie… Tsuchiura controls resists the urge to do anything else to him… then Tsukimori asks him “Why are you always so affected when it comes to things concerning Hino?”, which renders Tsuchiura speechless. Tsukimori then tells them “But then, I also want to know her answer / the reason why (to the questions he confronted Hino with… since Hino has been avoiding her instead of telling him the truth).

Hino has been diligently practicing, and then it was already raining on her way home. As she arrives to her house, she hurries to her room and realizes how her love for her violin has become even more deep. But at her present state, she doesn’t possess anything else (no other skill) but her love for her violin.

Then, the 3rd selection… Hino decides to do her very best as she loves the violin. Hihara sees Hino still looking down and worries about her…

Hino, Fuyuumi, Amou, and the girls’ accompanists are in the women’s dressing room, commenting on how Fuyuumi’s dress fits her perfectly… Then in the men’s dressing room, Yunoki sees Tsuchiura, Tsukimori and Hihara in a dazed state (as they’re all thinking about Hino). Yunoki helps Shimizu tie his ribbon, then asks the them the reason why Hino has been down recently. Tsuchiura replies that he doesn’t know. Ousaki-sempai, who’s assisting Kanazawa-sempai in handling the competition, enters the room to call the participants to gather. He also notices the three people in a daze, and asks Yunoki what was up with them, and replies with “Who knows?”

The 3rd selection is about to start, and much more people gathered in the concert hall than before (because even ordinary students have also gained interest in the concurs now)

The first to perform was Hihara, who had a lot of misses because he has been worrying about Hino Thus Hihara tells himself “the worst [performance]“… The next one is Shimizu-kun, who of course performs great as usual, but Kanazawa-sensei comments on how he senses a bit of worry / hesitation in his current performance (most likely because of worrying about Hino too). The 3rd to perform was Fuyuumi, who was able to relax unlike before, and was able to do her best as she thinks about Hino’s performance and how she wants to shine like her too…

And then, it’s Tsukimori’s turn… students are talking about how he would most likely not be able to perform well this time considering that he was last in the previous competition. Tsukimori proved them wrong as he left them stunned in awe by his splendid performance. But despite his great performance, still he says that “if only I played it better (than what I did), then it would’ve turned out better”… This surprises Hino, as she sees Tsukimori’s great urge to strive to become better, even at his current level.

Next was Tsuchiura, who didn’t let himself lose to Tsukimori and played in a level equal or even better than him. With these great performances, Hino tells herself how her love for her violin is nothing compared to what these two have… (real skill)

Hino puts a great pressure on herself as she tells herself how her current state (or what she has been doing so far) is not good enough. She asks the magic violin to lend her a hand and allow her to reach the level of their performance, even a little… to allow her to perform more beautifully, and accurately. As she performs, she thinks to herself how she should make the sound she plays much much better, and to exert more strength as she plays. As such, she pushes herself to her limits, which puts much strain on the magical violin, eventually breaking the violin… >.<
