Kyou Kara Maou! First OVA to be Released on October

The first of five volumes of the Kyou Kara Maou! (also known as 『今日からマ王！』, Kyo Kara Maoh!, God(?) Save Our King) Official Video Animation (OVA) will be released in Japan on October 26, 2007. The OVAs will serve as the sequel to the TV anime series.

In the アニメ！アニメ！ news article, it mentions that the TV anime series was unusually popular for a long-term series, spanning 78 episodes aired from April 2004 to February 2006. It is also explained that the OVA came about due to the continuous clamoring of fans (largely composed of female teenagers) to see more of their favorite cast of bishounen (pretty boys). The sales of the OVA are expected to be high because of the early announcement of a definite release date. Each OVA will run for approximately 30 minutes.

In addition, an event will be held on February 24, 2008 at the 日本青年館 (Japan Youth Convention? Not really sure about the translation) to commemorate the production of the OVAs. The article also includes an announcement of the 1st DVD box set, covering episodes 1 – 11 of the TV anime series, which will be on sale on September 28, 2007. The DVD box set will cost around 23,100 yen (~300 SGD or ~9,600 PHP).

Thoughts

This is great! Absolutely nothing wrong with having more bishies in higher quality animation (or at least I hope, since this is an OVA afterall!). I also hope there will be better fighting scenes. I am looking forward to seeing more Yuri x Wolfram.

I am sure tons of fangirls are going to go nuts over this news. I, for one, envy those who will be attending the opening event next year. As for the DVD box set, expect a lot of goodies to go with it (with that hefty price tag it should).

I will be keeping my eye out on more details and release dates regarding the OVAs and share them with you as soon as I get them.

  7. Hope your right about it comeing here i have been trying to ask uk companys to pick it up but they say it costs too much money for it to come in the uk, but dont worry im going to order it from USA so i can get yeh. Yuri+Wolfram forever.

    sadly i doubt KKM dvd will come out in sg where im from…while i wish i could attend the event i don’t thinkg i’ll be able to purchase such an expensive set @_@
