Synopsis: Li Shengshun helps Chiaki. They run into the French guys. A fight ensues and Chiaki turns out to be only a Doll, implanted with the real Chiaki’s memories.

My opinions regarding Darker Than Black still hasn’t changed. I think the animation is inconsistent. At times, the characters are poorly drawn, like the scene at the restaurant.
Well, another French guy, named Alain, appears in this episode. I wonder how they are involved in all this.
Hei’s contracts seems to be eating a lot of food. If so, I think it’s rather biased. I mean, compared to breaking one’s fingers, lining up stones, or eating flowers, it’s something ordinary.
I wonder if how Hei, as LI Shengshun, treated Chiaki was all an act. For sure, the organization that Hei belongs to, want something from her. And so do those French guys. But I guess it’s noteworthy how the Hei ,who killed Louis with no remorse, could show a good side too.
Still, whether I’m liking this series or not, we’ll see in the next episodes.

Now that you mention it, the animation did slip quite a bit in the restaurant scene… I must’ve been paying too much attention to subtitles to notice -_-;;;
Episodes 3 & 4 have a slightly more interesting plot than the first two episodes though. Since four episodes is usually enough to judge a series, definitely give the next two a try.
Even then, it seems that Hei’s motives are only revealed in episode six… this series takes a while to get momentum.
The “people with powers” theme does come up quite often, but it’s usually not as gritty as in DtB. In that sense, I think DtB succeeds in establishing a noir, realistic atmosphere.
