[spoiler] The part about her being dead is not an important spoiler because she will only make an appearance in the flashback arc. She was once the number one Claymore. Young Claire tagged behind her in much the same way as Riku tags behind Claire now. Eventually Teresa, usually coldblooded, kills humans to save/avenge Claire, and is thus sentenced to death.
