Synopsis: Havoc, a feared Contractor is captured by the MI-6 and transported, with the help of the Tokyo police, to a research facility but she is kidnapped by Hei, wanting to know the truth about her sister.

Darker Than Black sure is fond of lengthy titles. Anyway, this episode introduces a new concept, that of the Lost, Contractors who have lost their powers. Havoc is such. She was one of the most feared Contractors having killed thousands in the South American War of the Heavens. She is connected to the Heaven’s Gate, of which not much is known, but with the Gate’s disappearance, she mysteriously vanished into Romania. No details of her power is known except that it seems to be creating a vacuum at will. It’s been five years since she lost her power.
New characters are also introduced in this episode: November 11, a man who can turn objects into stone, his contract is to smoke though he dislikes it; April, a black woman who can control the wind, her contract is to drink beer; and July, a young Doll, who, like Yin, can monitor things. They are from an agency, probably British, named MI-6. Britain was somehow involved in the South American war.
Hei knows about Havoc. He calls her Carmine, her real name perhaps. She seems to be connected with Pai, Hei’s sister who has long gone missing.
Another thing to note about this episode is that the background music is more noticeable compared to that of the previous episodes. The music during the scene where November 11 and April cornered the syndicate’s boss was a jazzy guitar piece reminiscent of Cowboy Bebop and Wolf’s Rain. I think, however, that it didn’t fit with the scene quite well. I hope to hear more interesting Yoko Kanno compositions though as the series progresses.

November 11 is pretty cool, especially with that remuneration right after lecturing about smoking ^_^;. But his power is not to turn things to stone, it’s actually to freeze things. You can see it clearly in the intro of this episode, when he freezes the guy’s legs. And before that, he deep-froze that one goon’s arm so that it fell off.
Talking about remuneration, Havoc’s is interesting:
