Seirei no Moribito

Seirei no Moribito - 06 “Death on Aogiri”

Synopsis: Balsa’s plan to confound her pursuers work but her pursuers have a plan as well.

This episode showed what happened during the manhunt and how Balsa’s quick thinking, at least, bought her some time. Her pursuers admit she’s one formidable foe. What puzzled them though is why Balsa didn’t kill them the first time they fought. One of them suggested that in order to find out where she went, they have to think like her. Two pursuers went to where Balsa was headed and would’ve caught up with her and Chagum if not for Torogai’s help. Or perhaps Balsa and Torogai had it planned already?

One interesting angle in the series is the reversal of gender roles between Balsa and Tanda. According to Tanda, it is a man’s duty to protect the women but in his case, he can’t do anything else for her, other than tend to her wounds. As he remarked, he feels like the wife of some warrior. Tanda wants to fight for Balsa and carry her burdens. I think Balsa cares for Tanda so much that she doesn’t want him involved in dangerous situations but I guess the fact that Balsa always runs to Tanda whenever she is injured means that he is already deeply involved in her affairs. I wonder what developments will take place between the two.

Shuga’s alliance still remains a mystery. He seemt grieved upon hearing the news about Chagum. Chagum, meanwhile, had a haircut in this episode, a change of identity. As he said, nearly crying, he no longer looks like a prince.

The backgrounds are as beautiful as ever. The mountain chase was awesome but I think the best part was the funeral procession. It was sad and solemn and everyone went out to the streets to give their final farewell to the prince, including Chagum, himself.

  2. I agree, the animation is superb but I think the pacing of the story is too slow.

oh well, I was a bit sad to find out that Chagum had cut his hair. He looks suddenly looked grown-up.

  3. I think the pacing’s just ok. :)

As for Chagum cutting his hair, it didn’t came as shock for me since he is shown with short hair in the opening and ending sequence.

  4. Production IG is doing a splendid job with animating this. It really is a feast for the senses. The background, the animation, the music, they are all stellar!

It kinda saddened me to see Chagum’s hair get cut off… but he’s still as cute as a button!

  5. I really like this series. We get to see this story from everyone’s POV. The series doesn’t imply that there is an absolute ‘evil’.
