Claymore 08 – Awakening
Synopsis: Teresa manages to defeat the four Claymores sent to kill her but something’s happening with Priscilla.
Though the fight scenes in Claymore are not dynamic (compared to that of Seirei no Moribito or Samurai Champloo), they still kept me at the edge of my seat. Teresa’s good. She managed to defeat the four without even using her Yoma powers. She left with Clare but that darn Priscilla followed her. Unable to control her powers, Priscilla was turning into a Yoma. Teresa would have killed her but Priscilla was crafty. It happened so fast. Teresa’s head fell off. Darn Priscilla. I guess if Teresa was more careful she could have defeated Priscilla still. Though Priscilla was turning Yoma, and thus, utilized all her powers, Teresa was barely using hers. Priscilla then proceeded to kill the other Claymores. She ignored Clare though and flew off to feast on human guts.
Anyway, at the end of the opening sequence, there is a brief scene of a Yoma with a horn. I thought it kinda looked like Raki (perhaps there will be a twist in the story and Raki will turn Yoma). But seeing Priscilla awakened, I was somehow relieved. Still, I think it looked more like Raki than an awakened Priscilla.
Plot aside, the music was worth mentioning in this episode. I love the music that was played when Priscilla awakened.

Priscilla is so ridiculously overpowered… Theresa looked really pathetic here. (She also looked pathetic at this point in the manga, so I guess it’s fair).

If i understood well, Theresa was not defeated because she was weaker than fully awaked Priscilla… She was defeated because she left her guard down. Priscilla played dirty, acting as a poor sobbing thing and asking Theresa to kill her before she loses complete control and she fell for that.
Actually, Theresa could have defeated her – look how she owned Priscilla almost the entire showdown – but she became a softie because her interations with loli-Clare.
As for the reason because awaked Priscilla didn’t eat Clare, probably she was too small to make a meal so Pricilla ignored her.
I thought this was the best episode thus far. It was filled with action. I think the anime did well in making this a very chilling episode. The music was exceptional too.
About Priscilla not eating Clare, perhaps she placed her her hopes on Clare to kill her in the future and to end her miserable existence… or maybe it is as Gilberto I.S. had said.

Anyhow, I think it’s only natural for the awakened to act emotionally defeated so as to launch a surprise attack.
i just read on a site that claymore was only 26 episodes!!! is that true? can we request them to make more of them? i really love tjhe series!!!
Just for the record and for everyone to know. Teresa defeated the last number 1 that awakened and received her rank of number 1 doing so… Using only 10% of her yoma side she defeated Rosemary easily…. a fully awakened number 1 was killed by Teresa at only 10%…. I know Teresa could of easily have defeated anything we have seen in the series. Every awakened being would pose no threat to Teresa considering the facts. But you must have a storyline and with Teresa around there would be no Clare so with that said enjoy the rest of the series season two announced next year 2010.
