OP Sequence:

Devil May Cry – 02 (Highway Star)

Several bikers race through the streets as two men in trench coats observes them from afar. One of the bikers crashed and another warns his companion up ahead to slow down a bit. Refusing to listen, he speeds up and leaves the rest of the bikers behind. Just when he thought that he’s ahead of everyone, he noticed a red light from a mysterious biker close behind him and suddenly moves past him. Refusing to be overtaken, the man speeds it up through the dark bridge up ahead to catch up with the biker. Suddenly a scream let out and on the other side of the bridge the man is lying lifeless on the ground and a reflection on his helmet showed his bike being swallowed up in flames.

In town, a man runs and takes cover from the rain outside of a nearby club and notices a hooded-woman. He asks her who she’s waiting for and if by any chance it would be her boyfriend. He proposes that she leave his boyfriend and join him some place elsewhere. The woman willingly agrees to his offer but to his surprise the woman is leading the way and she brings them to an empty warehouse. The man wonders what they’re doing in the abandoned warehouse and says to her that there’s nothing there. The woman walks to a nearby door and opens it revealing a room full of skulls. She asks if he has forgotten about these even though it was all his doings. She goes on to say that there have been reports around town of people who went missing in a similar situation as they are in right now. He wonders if he looks like a person capable of doing such things. She replies that he doesn’t look anything like a human. The man immediately transformed into a demon and attacked the woman. She moves out of the way of his attack, removes her hood and brings out her guns and shoots. She wounded the monster but he was able to knock off one of her guns out of her hand. He dashed towards her to attack but she brings out another gun and attacks, tearing his body apart and kills him off. The two men from earlier showed up afterwards and referred to her as Lady. They introduce themselves as highway officers and seems to be tracking her down. When she asks what they want they tell her they that they have a job for her.

At the Devil May Cry, Patty complains about the appearance of the place and suggests that it must be the reason why there are no customers. Someone at the door is looking for Dante and Patty guesses that it might be a customer. Apparently, it’s just a guy delivering another pizza for Dante. Patty wonders when they’ll ever get customers and thinks that she needs to tidy up the place. Dante tells her that she’s wrong based on the reactions of the delivery boy earlier and tells her to put the place back to how it was. Someone opens the door and Patty turns around to greet a customer. It turned out to be Lady and she is surprised at Dante for the new look of the place. She takes a look around the place and seemed to have known Patty. When Patty asks how she knows of her Lady says rumors have been going around. Dante interrupts the conversation asking Lady why she’s here as she certainly wouldn’t come just to see Patty. He continues to say that if she’s here to offer work then he’d turn it down. After hearing that, Lady walks to the pool table and proposes a bet that if she’s able to shoot the 8 ball then he’d accept the job. Dante agrees but eventually loses the bet. He then asks who the target would be this time and Lady responds that it would, of course, be demons.

Dante and Lady goes to a biker’s gathering and suggest that she didn’t mean they were the demons. Lady jokingly says that they surely are when it comes to the highway. Dante doesn’t put up with her jokes and prepares to leave because he cannot use swords and guns on humans. Lady tells her to stay a bit and follow her. She asks some of the bikers where she can find their leader. The leader overhears the conversation, introduces himself as Vincent and asks what she wants. She tells them that they need to leave this place and they go on to tell her that what they do is none of her business. Vincent tells them both to just leave them for now because there’s a race that he needs to be on right now. The same race with the same mysterious biker that eventually lead to his brother’s death three weeks ago. Dante tells him that he’s stupid to be thinking of doing such a thing. Lady interrupts Vincent that if he wants to fight Dante he will have to go on a race with him. Dante initially refuses but Lady tells her that if she went on the race he’d then be done with his job. She then convinces Vincent by saying that the biker he’s looking for will probably show up if he races with Dante. And so both agreed to race with one another.

Just before the race starts, Dante refuses to wear a helmet and also leaves his sword behind with Lady. The race starts and Dante takes the lead. Not refusing to be beaten, Vincent fires up the nitro boosters and goes past Dante. In a bush nearby, the mysterious biker seems to be looking towards their race. Just as they were about to cross the bridge, Vincent sees a red light and a biker resembling his brother. Dante warns him that it’s just an illusion but he goes on to chase after the biker. Dante shoots down the support for the bridge destroying it in the process. Vincent falls to the side of the road after Lady shoots down his bike. She then throws the sword to Dante. Dante figures that she must have used Vincent to lure out the demon and so both went on to chase the mysterious biker. Dante catches up to the biker and when he was able to move past the biker he stabbed the bike revealing it to be a demon in disguise. Lady catches up and jumps above the demon. She brings out her signature rocket launcher and fires it at the demon in close range to finish the job.

Back at the Devil May Cry, Patty wonders why there are still no customers even after putting the place back to how it was. Dante gets a phone call from Lady but is surprised to learn that he won’t be getting any payment due to the fact that he destroyed the bridge earlier. Vincent appears at the door and comes in to thank Dante for saving his life. He tells Dante that he will stop chasing his brother and will race for himself from now on. As a last favor, he requests for Dante to race him once more. Dante walks to the pool table and proposes a bet that if he won’t be able to shoot the 8 ball then he’d agree to the request.

Thoughts:

I have to say it’s much better than the previous episode. The OP really stirred up my interests for the next upcoming episodes. There were times where I felt the animation dropped a little. It just might have been because of the fast scenes during the racing part.

I didn’t expect that they’d bring in Lady this early into the series but seeing that it’s only 12 episodes long I guess that was to be expected. Hooray for that. She kicks arse just like in the game. ^^ My only complaint was the fight scenes with the demons was kinda short. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this episode and definitely looking out for the next one.
