Kaze no Stigma - 13

Kaze no Stigma Episode 13 - Let’s Go to the Amusement Park!

Soushu once again schemes up a plan to make Ayano and Kazuma’s relationship progress (can’t they do it by themselves?! :p), by having them go to the amusement park for a “date” disguised as a “job”. Possessing her sense of responsibility as the next clan head, Ayano refuses to have fun and treats this as a mere work, despite how her heart longs to have fun… wackiness and romance ensues in this episode as Yukari and Nanase makes their appearance as well.

(And… this post is sooo delayed, I know… sorry for that… I’ve been thinking of writing the detailed or the super summary of this but ended up writing the detailed one… x____x I wasn’t able to have much time writing this one because I’m busy with work on the weekdays, and I’ve been suffering from some cough as well (imported from Japan LOL) The weather is nice now… the storm seems to have gone somewhere else this time :3)

Summary

Kazuma, Ayano, and Ren get the chance to spend some time in the amusement park for a certain ‘work’ from Soushu. Ayano is in such a good mood because of this great chance to spend time with Kazuma and dedicates much of her time fixing up as though she’s preparing for a date. (Ayano and Yukari are having a phone conversation in the background, while Ren is also talking to Kanon about some ‘previous arrangement’ they have).

On the to way the amusement park, Ayano and Ren find out that Kazuma has never been to an amusement park before because his damn father (according to Kazuma) made him spend all his free time on nothing else but training (and Ayano insults his training for being useless, because he still lost to her during the fight with Enraiha :p). Kanon and Tetsuya are already in the amusement park anticipating Ren’s arrival. Yukari and Nanase are also in the same place, getting ready to put on their disguise to spy on Ayano, whose eyes sparkle like a “lady in love” didn’t escape Yukari’s senses.

Kazuma looks around the amusement park like a country bumpkin, and was about to get on with their job when Ren’s friends suddenly appear and makes it seem like they only met him by chance. Ren tags along with his friends as they invite him to play with them, and Ayano thinks that Ren will simply be a ‘third wheel’ in Kanon and Tetsuya’s ‘relationship’ (and of course the two mortal enemies vehemently corrects Ayano’s misunderstanding :p). Kazuma doesn’t mind parting with his little brother for a while knowing that he’s going to have fun, but thinks that the one unnecessary for the job is no one else but Ayano.

A flashback is shown with Soushu discussing the ‘job’ they have to do, which he thinks is a good opportunity for Kazuma to teach Ayano a thing or to about controlling her power. He hands them the tickets to the amusement park, telling them of a “disclaimer” with regards to the uncertainty if there’s indeed some spirits within the place. Soushu asks them to investigate on the case, and assures them that they can just spend the entire day and have fun the moment they find out that nothing’s wrong. Ayano gets flustered about this but refuses to be honest about her feelings and voices out her complaints against this idea instead. Finding out that they’ll be there to work and have fun at the same time, Kazuma decides to have Ren tag along with them as well (since it’s a good way to cheer him up after all the depressing events that happened).

Soushu was taken aback by this unexpected twist in his plans, but remains calm as usual and thinks up a way to resolve this by talking Ren into a backup plan involving his friends. Ren could simply sigh at what Soushu asked him but Kanon assures him that she’s glad that he asked them out. The atmosphere was getting romantic when Tetsuya comes in the right time to ruin the mood.

Kazuma decides to take a rest first because there’s nothing suspicious going on, and knows that it’ll be easy to spot such incidents in this place. Kazuma notices Ayano staring at the rides and tells her that it’s alright to loosen up and have fun, but Ayano refuses to do so since she came there for work (although that’s not her real sentiments). Ayano spots a couple holding hands and was about to the same with Kazuma when he suddenly spots a suspicious looking man who came out of the women’s restroom. This doesn’t have anything to do with their actual ‘job’ but Ayano’s sense of justice won’t ever let this kind of thing pass. He knocks the hell out of the ‘peeping tom’ and it took a Kazuma to restrain her from injuring him to death. Ayano does the same to a bunch of guys hitting on some women, and also gives Kazuma some kicking as he finds interest in the video the peeping tom took.

Ayano has pretty much caused a scandal with her violence so Kazuma decides to call on Kirika knowing that the police will definitely arrest Ayano as well, under normal circumstances. Ayano however believes there’s nothing wrong with what she did since she was only showing ‘justice’. Kirika leaves together with the video camera Kazuma handed which serves as the ‘proof’ of what one of the perverts did. Soushu on the other hand spends time alone wondering if there’s been any progress with Kazuma and Ayano’s relationship, and intentionally refuses to answer Ayano’s calls.

Ayano is already getting worried at the present situation since they can’t sense anything abnormal and they can’t contact Soushu either. Uproars also happened for which no one else is to blame but Ayano. She takes notice two suspicious looking women sitting in front of them, and the scene cuts to Ren who’s having fun with his friends but can’t help but feel worried about Ayano and Kazuma.

Ayano looks at the two women who she believes have been spying on them right from the start and decides to go after them, when Kazuma intentionally stops her by holding on to her skirt. Ayano blames Kazuma for letting them get away but he simply ignores her (and her slowness) and walks all the way to the ferris wheel while Ayano follows after him. After a brief moment of silence, Ayano once again lets out her complaints about the earlier incident and exclaims how her father doesn’t think about her feelings for having her work together with Kazuma all the time. Kazuma simply stays silent through all of her complaints. The sunset suddenly comes into view and Ayano looks out to see its beauty. Fascinated by what she sees, Ayano finally smiles, while Kazuma looks at her with a smile as well (relieved that he finally see her having fun).

The ferris wheel lights up, reminding him of Ayumi which brings him to tears again. Kanon suddenly draws near him and holds his hand saying, “Welcome back, Ren-kun”, as she tells him that she’s willing to wait until there’ll finally be a place for her in his heart. Tetsuya once again interrupts them and Kanon kicks him for ruining this tender moment. Ren simply laughs at them and Kanon hugs him, relieved that she finally saw him happy.

Kazuma sees Ren with his friends having fun, and Ayano goes to take a look as well. She suddenly notices how close she is to Kazuma and is taken aback, then moves away from him and sits next to him, all flustered. Ayano feels a little envious of Kazuma’s gentleness towards his brother when she notices his hand touching hers, making her heart throb so much for reasons she doesn’t know about.

Ayano and Kazuma finally meets up with Ren and his friends, exchanging comments on how they all seemed to have fun (and Ayano tries to deny it). Ren thanks Kazuma for inviting him, knowing that he did it out of his concern for him, which finally made him recover from what happened before.

Kazuma whispers to Ren, confirming his deduction that Soushu is the ‘real culprit’ behind this incident, seeing how his real aim is to have him and Ayano go out on a date and not really for the job. Ren admits this to be true and says that it’s for this reason that Soushu asked him to invite Kanon and Tetsuya along as well. Ayano suddenly realizes that they still haven’t finished their job and that they should still go after the suspicious “two-some” from earlier. The two women makes their appearance and turns out to be no one else but Yukari and Nanase.

Inside the hospital, Kirika is watching the video from earlier, featuring Yukari and Nanase changing clothes inside the toilet (with Yukari showing her perverse tendencies). Yukari and Nanase reveals that they were filming Ayano’s “date”, and Ayano gets all frantic as she demands them to give back the camera. Kirika visits Genma, who accepts her visit when she offers to tell him about the recent happenings in Kazuma’s life

Thoughts

As I’ve already mentioned before, I wasn’t expecting this episode to be THIS fun because of some things lacking in the novel. I love seeing Ayano x Kazuma moments and I’m glad they decided to add more of that here ^^

Ayano seems to be… “slow” or “confused” with what she showed in this episode. At first we see her all excited with the “job” which she clearly see as a “date” (Seeing Ayano spend much time fixing up her hair and choosing from the same set of clothes is a fun watch XD) And then when they get to the amusement park, she once again acts like her “next clan head” self and puts the “job” as utmost priority instead of the “date” (though that’s what her heart really tells her). One could say that she’s… torn in between her responsibility and having fun? (Soushu needs to clear that up to her, because he’s actually the one who’s been pressuring Ayano with regards to her responsibility :p)

All that adds up to Ayano’s charm and cuteness, and by this time, I believe Kazuma is well aware of how she’s but a little kid inside :) Kazuma intentionally made her ride the ferris wheel so she can rid herself of any worries and simply have fun (since by this time, Kazuma must’ve already known about Soushu’s “real plan”). Ayano is so hung up with the work that she can’t even relax, and so Kazuma felt relived when he finally saw Ayano smile :) (I don’t think this was mentioned in the novel, so I’m really glad :D This adds up to more romantic Ayano x Kazuma moment, as well as Kazuma’s bishieness factor :p)

I can’t help but smile with glee when I saw the holding hands scene in the ferris wheel as well (also because it’s not in the novel ^^). Kazuma’s senses are sharp enough for him to realize that he’s actually touching Ayano’s hand, so I believe he did that on purpose ;)

Soushu is one schemy father for him to plan all this for the sake of pairing up Kazuma with his daughter :p Even Ren can’t believe that Soushu’s capable of doing this (as he mentioned in the novel) XD Soushu and his schemes are one of the major factors that adds up to the entertainment in the KnS world (major contributor to the Kazuma x Ayano antics), so I have no complaints against that :p

Ren was also given much appearance in this episode as well (despite the fact that he’s a side character in this episode), as they connected the incident with Mayumi with this story. That’s one clever idea the animators thought of, since there was no mention of it in the novel. Ren didn’t appear much in the novel anymore after exchanging greetings with Kanon and Tetsuya, so it’s great that they added these scenes… which made us see that Ren has finally recovered from that incident and a new love is just around the corner waiting to bloom :p (Kanon is far more violent than Ayano, but she’s far sweeter and sharper (and more un-innocent?) than her as well… hehe… )

As Briar also mentioned, it seems that Kirika does have a romantic interest in Genma… too bad this was just an additional scene in the anime so I don’t have the novel to confirm all this :) Genma softens up when it comes to Kazuma, but refuses to show his “love” :p

The Yukari and Nanase scenes are “omakes” in this episode as well, which brought about extra fun and spice in this episode ^-^ (and also some fanservice ^^;;; )

  1. Welcome back. Sorry about your cough.

    Thanks for this update. Please keep up the anime/book comparisons as it gives such a deeper insight into the KnS world.

  2. Welcome back, usagijen. Hope there’s more to Japan than just cough. :) Personally, I think this is one prime example of a “filler” episode being soooo well done. I really didn’t think it would be good, but it gave me a very pleasant surprise. And an even more pleasant surprise when you say that most of my favourite moments aren’t in the novel.

    Looks like I’m right to have good faith in the animators. :D Here’s to hoping future episodes will only get better.

  4. I am fairly certain Kirika has no romantic interest in Genma. I’m not sure how people even discerned this from that hospital scene. Kirika’s interest appears to have always been on Kazuma. In fact, I don’t think Kirika used Kazuma as an excuse to visit Genma, but rather, used visiting Genma as an excuse to talk about Kazuma. What she wanted out of such a conversation isn’t clear, but based on Genma’s smirking before offering her a seat … it was as if he was reacting to her finally bringing up the main point of her visit.

  6. @strichone: thanks~ rest assured that I’ll be keeping up these novel comparisons, because I really enjoy reading it as well ^^

    @Briar: yup, this is yet another “filler” / “short story” episode that’s been done really well~ (too bad episode 14’s adaptation was not as good x___x)

    @lena: you’re welcome ^^

    @Abel: hehe… I think we can see it in different lights, and your point is indeed clear :) I guess our imagination is so vivid that we already think about such things without much proof yet :p

    @kazumaXX: hiya! thanks ^^
