I’m so sad that it was only 12 eps…. I heard that they might continue it with a manga. I hope t hat’s the case, because this is one of the best anime I’ve ever watched!!!
I’m also a westerner, and I enjoyed it, but I might be one of the few….

I absolutely love the series.
And, concerning the discussion of Mononoke’s popularity among Westerners…
Well, I’m a Westerner, too (Indeed, I’m from Germany).
I’ve never studied something like Ukiyo-e or anything related to Japanese art, I’m simply a fan of anime and Manga. And I love Mononoke. well.

I really enjoyed watching every bit of the anime. The Bake Neko arc from Ayakashi was well – made horror/ mystery, Mononoke now concentrates more on character studies.

The art/storytelling really isn’t something for the main stream. I suppose that is also what makes the series unique and even more adorable… however…
it’s also a pity that something this great will never become popular, and so known to more people.

I love this series and can’t wait for more episodes.

I’m a westerner but I studied Ukiyo-e and the Edo period as my own choice in high school. This series also seems to have a heavy art Noveau style, also a favourite.

I really enjoy the characters of the series and all their human frailities…great storylines…

I don’t see this series as becoming popular in the main stream. It’s just too wierd for most people. But nevermind, we all know what a good thing it is

I don’t find the characters in Mononoke ugly. The character designs differ from most anime and have a more realistic look.

As for Samurai Champloo, although it has a historical setting, it is not quite traditional as it incorporates modern elements, hip-hop for one, so most people, Westerners too, could relate to it.

i tried to introduce Mononoke to my friends but most of the reactions are like ‘erm,bazzare artwork’ or ‘can’t stand the ugly characters’ or even ‘the medicine vendor looks eccentric’(=A=|||)…much less westerners…
yet Samurai Champloo turn out to be more popular isn’t it?

well,then i strongly recomm Bake Neko if you haven’t watched it yet.you’ll find the medicine vendor looks a bit different from Mononoke…i like both look though;)and aye obviously it’s another visual feast
i don’t know how westerners find Mononoke, so far i find it not so popular(popularity among the minority i mean…) as in east Asia…guess the artwork and the japanese folklores it concerns might keep ppl from appreciating it?
