Claymore – 16 “The Witch’s Maw Pt. 2″

Synopsis: Clare fights an Awakened Being. Galatea comes and they discover the Awakened Beings’ plot.

Clare enters the cave and feels a huge amount of yoki. The walls are filled with rods that also pulse yoki. Suddenly more rods strike and a bunch of Yoma appear. Clare fights the Yoma effortlessly. One of them escapes, however, and Clare follows. Suddenly, a huge hand appears from the ground and crushes the Yoma. An Awakened Being with enormous yoki appears. He is rather stupid and finds himself stuck in a narrow opening. Clare attacks.

The girl below is observing the fight. She says Clare is pretty good and thinks it would have been better if she had Dauf, the huge Awakened Being, bring her to where she is. Jeane, still bound, asks her what she is up to but the girl replies it’s a secret. She’ll only tell her if she awakens and becomes her ally. Jeane says she wouldn’t want to ally with monsters. The girl laughs and tells her that even to ordinary humans, Jeane is already a monster.

Meanwhile, Clare continues to fight. She wonders how Dauf is able to take her flash sword head on. Dauf suddenly shoots a huge rod from his mouth. It knocks Clare off. He shoots again and picks Clare by the head.

Suddenly, another Claymore arrives. She says that she was glad she found Clare but she wonders what she will do in such a situation. Clare observes her symbol and realizes she is #3, Galatea. The girl below senses that a really strong warrior has arrived.

Dauf attempts to crush Clare’s head but he suddenly loses grip and Clare falls. Galatea catches her and starts to leave. Dauf shoots out rods but they don’t hit her. Clare also wonders how the rods are moved off target on their own. Dauf hits part of the ceiling and boulders fall blocking the entrance. Galatea comments that Dauf may have a functioning brain afterall. Galatea tells Clare to heal her wounds. She also tells her that Clare has picked a tough opponent. Clare tells Galatea to be careful because Dauf’s body is so tough, their swords don’t work against him. Galatea tells her she is wrong because she is referring to the one below who has cleverly hidden her yoki.

Dauf attacks Galatea but she is able to dodge each time. She realizes that normal attacks don’t penetrate his outer skin. Galatea then attacks the parts that aren’t as tough as Dauf’s skin. Clare watches the fight and is amazed at Galatea’s power. She seems to be able to manipulate yoki.

Suddenly the girl appears. She comments how Dauf is really stupid and tells him that because he does stupid things she can’t take pride on him as her man. Dauf whimpers like a child. The girl then tells him that in order for his punches to hit Galatea, he must use all his strength and will. Dauf complains that he’s been doing that but the girl demands that he do it.

Dauf attempts to hit Galatea. Though Galatea dodges, he notices that his punch did not change its course. Dauf continues to fight Galatea but this time, Galatea begins to have a hard time. Clare asks the girl if she did anything but she replies that she did absolutely nothing. She tells Clare that Galatea can control other’s yoki but she can only manipulate it to some extent. If Dauf fights with all his strength, Galatea can’t do anything about it. Dauf hits Galatea then shoots a rod at her. The girl comments that the outcome of the fight has been determined.

Clare releases yoki. She heals her legs and rescues Galatea. However, it seems as if Clare has lost control. Galatea manipulates her yoki and Clare reverts to normal. She comments that she now understands why the organization wants to keep an eye on Clare.

The girl then says that she is disappointed that Clare didn’t awaken. She tells her and Galatea that she wants them to become her allies. Clare finally senses the girl’s monstrous yoki. Galatea explains that in the long history of Claymores, there were three disastrous cases in which the #1 warrior awakened. One during the age of male warriors and two during the age of female warriors. They are the strongest of all Awakened Beings and they moved to different locations: one to the North, one to the West and one to the South. Since they knew each other’s powers, they avoided unnecessary conflict. They did not appear in the open again and were thus called the “Dwellers of the Deep”. The girl with them is Riful of the West. She was the very first #1 female warrior, having reached that pinnacle at a young age.

Riful comments that Galatea sure knows a lot but there are some inaccuracies. She says that it’s not that they avoided conflict, it’s just that the territories they occupied didn’t overlap. Galatea asks her why they have started to move recently, acquiring more allies. Riful replies that it was the guy in the north who made the first move and that he has somehow become conceited after meeting a certain woman, a one-horned Awaken Being who was having a rampage in the North. Riful then tells them that she was bored so she answered his call and now is stocking up on pawns.

Clare, after having heard of the one-horned monster, reacts and asks for the name of the man in the North. She tells Riful that she will kill his woman. Riful is surprised that Clare knows Priscilla. Riful tells her that if she can manage to hit her even once, she will tell her. Clare attacks but Dauf blocks her. Riful tells Clare that she would have greater power and speed if she releases her powers willingly. Clare finds an opening and is about to strike but Galatea stops her. Galatea throws Clare and tells her that she almost lost control. If she allowed them to taunt her, she would be doing exactly as they wanted.

Galatea then tells her that they’ll take on Dauf first. If Riful has no intention of fighting, they would have a chance but for that they need one more warrior with them, one who could strike Dauf’s body with her sword, #9, Jeane who is held captive below. Galatea tells Clare that Jeane is in an unstable condition and might awaken soon. Considering her personality, however, she is the one who would rather die than awaken but she is in a condition where she can’t end her own life. Galatea then tells Clare that she will handle Dauf while Clare rescue Jeane. If it’s too late, she will have to kill Jeane.

Galatea then fights Dauf as Clare looks for Jeane. Galatea says that although it is against her policies on beauty, she will release yoki. The rate her power rises as she releases yoki is the highest among all forty-seven warriors. Riful observes the fight and comments that Galatea is just buying time.

Clare, meanwhile, has found Jeane but it looks like it is too late already. Jeane seems to have awakened.
