Synopsis: Clare receives a new mission: to join an expedition to destroy Awakened Beings in the North.

Jeane continues to follow Clare. Clare asks her how long she plans to follow. Jeane replies that she has no intention of leaving until she returns a favor of equal magnitude. Clare tells her she already has. Clare demonstrates her flash sword and explains that before meeting Jeane, she never thought the flash sword would be controllable but when she saw Jeane able to keep her human mind despite being physically awakened, her thinking changed.
Rubel suddenly comes, surprising Clare. Jeane and Clare also notices another Claymore. They were shocked that they sense her before. Clare realizes that the Claymore is #5, Rafaela. Rubel explains that Rafaela is good in hiding her yoki. Clare unsheathes her sword but Rubel tells her that even if Clare and Jeane fight, they wouldn’t be able to defeat Rafaela.
Jeane asks about Galatea. Rubel says that Galatea abandoned her original mission and came up with a lie. However, since she is useful to the organization, her life is spared but she will be sent on dangerous missions for a while.
Rubel then tells Clare of a new mission. Numerous Awakened Beings have appeared in the North and several warriors under the command of #7 have lost their lives. Clare’s mission would be to fight those Awakened Beings. Rubel explains that the organization is prepared to send a large group of warriors and Clare is one of them. He explains further that if Clare completes the mission, the organization might even reward her. It would be a great chance for runaway warriors like Clare and Jeane to redeem themselves. Rubel tells Clare that she doesn’t have to decide right away but the organization has made it clear that they can find and kill her wherever she goes. Rubel also mentions that a boy who was with Clare before seems to be in the North so the mission would also be ideal for her purpose.
And so, Clare joins the mission. Jeane still follows her. They meet Helen and Deneve although there was a misunderstanding at first. I love Helen’s reaction when she learned that Jeane was #9, a rank higher than hers and Deneve’s.
The Claymores are then asked to gather in the town square. A Claymore who introduces herself as #8, Flora, tells them that they will be briefing the warriors of the mission. Since there are two single-digit Claymores, Jeane and Flora, and Flora is of lower number, Helen asks if Flora will be leading them. Flora says that there is one of lower number than hers: Miria.
Miria speaks to the warriors that have gathered and explains that the mission would be to destroy the many Awakened Beings that lurk in the land of Alphonse. Most of the Claymores react unable to believe what Miria said. One of the warriors says that if they are afraid they can run away like little girls. She is #11, Undine, a rather muscular Claymore bearing two swords. Deneve comments that though Undine thinks she has the most strength among the warriors thus her two swords, she thinks Undine is just a small potato. Undine hears this and a small commotion occurs. Bah… I find Undine annoying. Anyway, Flora tells the warriors that if there is anyone who likes to cause trouble, she will fight that person.
Flora asks Jeane to come to the front since she is also a single-digit warrior. Miria asks Undine and #13, Veronica to come too. Miria explains that since there are twenty-four warriors, they will form five teams with each team consisting of four to five members. She, Flora, Jeane, Undine and Veronica will lead a team. Miria then assigns each Claymore to a team. Helen is assigned to Veronica’s team, Deneve to Undine’s and Clare to Flora’s.
After everyone rested, Clare meets with Helen, Deneve and Miria. Miria says she is happy to see all of them. They then sense someone coming. It is Jeane. They learn that Jeane was able to revert to normal after physically awakening.
Miria notices that Clare’s right arm is different. She asks whose arm is it but Clare replies that she cannot divulge it. Clare asks what Miria thinks is the probability of the mission being a success. Miria tells them it’s zero. She explains that if it’s just numerous Awakened Beings it wouldn’t be zero but it’s zero because of those behind the scenes. It’s the Dweller of the Deep Easley, the Silver King. Miria explains that the true nature of the mission is to combat Awakened Beings in the North including their leader, Easley. Miria thinks that the organization is probably buying some time that’s why they were sent.
Meanwhile, outside the town of Pieta. Three people have gathered. They reveal their true forms as Awakened Beings. The attack begins. The Claymores didn’t expect the Awakened Beings to initiate the attack. Since there are three of them, Miria, Flora and Jeane’s team will each fight an Awakened Being. Undine and Veronica’s team will stand by and assist the teams that needs help. One of the Awakened Beings comment that Miria has good leadership.
Miria’s team fights the Awakened Being that can shoot chains from his body. Flora’s team fights a lizard-like Awakened Being who can control yoki like Galatea while Jeane’s team fights a spider-like Awakened Being. veronica’s team comes to assist Jeane and Undine’s team assist’s Flora’s team.
