2007 Fall Anime Menu

The winds of change are blowing, bringing with it quite a number of new titles, some sequels, a whole lot of moe school girls, some working hamsters, a pinch of magical girls, and, what anime season would be complete without the obligatory petri dish of super-deformed bacteria! The Scrumptious Anime Chefs bring to you an almost complete list of this fall season’s anime.

With a rather large disparity in our tastes, we’ve included “Chef Chaff” in each of our preview, to give you an idea of what we think of the title. Chaff means good-natured joking or banter. All puns are intended :p Animes are chronologically arranged according to air date.

Don’t forget to tell us what YOU will be watching. Bon appétit.

Note: It takes a while to load all the pictures. Thank you for your patience.

D.C. II: Da Capo II
Japanese Title: D.C.II ~ダ・カーポII~
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Feel
Air date: 10/01/2007
Synopsis: In Hatsunejima resides a magical sakura tree which grants wishes absolutely. However, the situation goes out of hand and the decision of shutting off the tree is at hand. This would mean that all traces of every wish will be erased, including Yoshiyuki Sakurai’s existence.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: La la la la la la la
BeLe: A lot of hype for this show. I need to watch the first season and see for myself.
Seleria: I didn’t see the first one. So, best to skip it.
usagijen: Didn’t like the first one…

BAMBOO BLADE
Japanese Title: BAMBOO BLADE
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: AIC A.S.T.A
Air date: 10/01/2007
Synopsis: Kojirou, a kendo instructor, had always been contented with his life of poverty, until a challenge was presented to him with a prize so great, that he cannot simply refuse–a year’s supply of food! The challenge? He must win against his sempai’s all-female kendo team with a team of his own.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Not interested.
BeLe: Haven’t read the manga but I foresee a lot of cliché with the plot and the characters. Art seems to be good though. Just might watch it because of the cute sword wielding girls and see where it goes from there. XD
Seleria: I am in it for the comedy and the kendo!
usagijen: The lead girl [once again] reminds me of Hotaru (Gakuen Alice). Seeing how this girl with l33t kendo skills had a sentai / mecha series as her inspiration was enough to catch my interest on this. Cool action + loads of fun.

Kawaii! Jenny
Japanese Title: Kawaii! ジェニー
Links: Website
Studio:
Air date: 10/01/2007
Synopsis: Super doll Kawaii Jenny stars in her very own still-motion sentai (task force) series. Watch out monsters… a creepier monster is coming to pound your ass.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: This is seriously disturbing.
BeLe: WTF is this?!?
Seleria: I think they should rename it to Kowai! Jenny (Scary! Jenny). I’d like to see her doll arse get kicked by Shinku (Rozen Maidens).
usagijen: Are they also trying to target people with barbie-doll-like fetishes now? o__O

Sketchbook ~full color’s~
Japanese Title: スケッチブック ~full color’s~
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Hal Film Maker
Air date: 10/01/2007
Synopsis: Based on the 4-koma manga of the same title, about the life and journey of artsy girl Sora Kajiwara as she discovers the world with her sketchbook.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Why do moe schoolgirls dominate this season?
BeLe: A slice-of-life anime. Can’t really get anything else from the preview other than that.
Seleria: Slice-of-life and comedy spells win for me.
usagijen: Hmm… it seems that I’ve changed my impression on this one. I enjoyed the comic strip featured on the site… but I didn’t seem to enjoy the actual 4-koma manga >.>

Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku
Japanese Title: BLUE DROP ~天使達の戯曲~
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Ashi Productions & BeSTACK
Air date: 10/01/2007
Synopsis: In 1995, all inhabitants of an island mysteriously disappear in a single night, except for one girl named Mari, who lost all her memories. Four years later, Mari moves to a school dormitory and meets the school idol, Hagino. Hagino, however, has some dark secrets of her own.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Schoolgirls and a sci-fi background. It kinda got me interested because the art looks good until I heard there’s some yuri in it…
BeLe: Interesting to see how they’ll incorporate the manga into an anime.
Seleria: Space spy meets earthling schoolgirl and they fall in love with each other. Anyone up for intergalactic yuri romance?
usagijen: I’m not much of a sci-fi fan… moreso a yuri one. And yet, despite how I thought it’s like Akira (from browsing the manga), the PV changed that impression I had and really caught my eye…

Kaiji
Japanese Title: 逆境無頼カイジ
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Air date: 10/02/2007
Synopsis: The sleazy and jobless Kaiji steps into the world of gambling after getting entangled with his friend’s dilemma of a huge debt. A moment of despair and hopelessness brings out his hidden prowess in gambling.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Hmm… an anime on gambling addicts? Something new but not the kind that interests me. And the characters look ugly, methinks.
BeLe: A gambling anime. Now this is something I could get into for a change. And with madhouse doing the production, it just might turn out great.
Seleria: The character design is pushing me away. I’m superficial like that.
usagijen: Interesting premise, but the artwork is such a turn-off >__< If only the characters were bishies… I can already imagine some hawt gambling game :P

Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro
Japanese Title: 魔人探偵脳噛ネウロ
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Air date: 10/02/2007
Synopsis: Yako’s father was murdered in a locked room. She then meets a man named Neuro Nougami who is a demon from Hell who eats “riddles.” He forces Yako to act as a detective so he can solve mysteries. Neuro longs to eat the ultimate mystery. – ANN
Chef Chaff
absolute0: A mystery anime with a supernatural twist. I wonder if this one’s good.
BeLe: There’s a lot of veteran seiyuus in this show and the excerpt does seem to spike an interest. Mystery and the supernatural genre almost always seem to be enjoyable..
Seleria: A demon who has a fetish for mystery. Hey… that kinda sounded interesting. Also, Takehito Koyasu (Ilpalazzo of Excel Saga, Hotohori of Fushigi Yuugi, Sakano of Gravitation, Ryosuke Takahashi of Initial D) is voicing Neuro.
usagijen: Ongoing Jump series! Run away!!! D:

Suteki Tantei Labyrinth
Japanese Title: 素敵探偵ラビリンス
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Studio DEEN
Air date: 10/02/2007
Synopsis: Mysterious events unfold in the now-devastated, old capital city of Tokyo where inhabitants still remain. Young boy detective, Mayuki Hyouga, sets out to uncover these mysteries in the city, now known as “Labyrinth”.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: For a detective anime, this one looks a bit too cheerful. Perhaps the detective of this story solves cases on lost articles and missing cats.
BeLe: Another mystery anime this season. Nice! Kinda reminds me of Spiral for some reason.
Seleria: Is that a dog or a yeti?
usagijen: Cute guy detective who solves mysteries with class! (or so from the way I see it… with the character designs). Mysteries and intrigue (+the cute shota male lead) are a win for me, so I’m sure to check this one out.

Night Wizard The Animation
Japanese Title: ナイトウィザード The ANIMATION
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Hal Film Maker
Air date: 10/02/2007
Synopsis: The modern-day fantasy pits Emulators, who have invaded Earth from a demon world, against Humanity’s newly awakened Wizards.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: This one’s based on a role playing game. Looks like typical shounen stuff.
BeLe: Sword fights, cute girls with big guns and magical creatures. Must watch! XD
Seleria: Night wizards can use an item called Gunner’s Broom. Sounds gay, doesn’t it?
usagijen: Seems like a generic RPG anime… but the character designs are nice *__*. Something I’ll take a peek at, to see if there’s something special about it.

Myself; Yourself
Japanese Title: Myself; Yourself
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Dogakobo
Air date: 10/02/2007
Synopsis: Sana Hidaka returns to his home town five years after moving out to Tokyo, and finds that much has changed in both the place and his childhood friends.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: The only thing I find interesting regarding this one is the title.
BeLe: Another visual novel turned anime. Typical visual novel plot, characters and etc. I’m watching mainly for the visuals.
Seleria: At first I thought it was going to be another yuri fest, but the protagonist has a Y-chromosome.
usagijen: The title intrigues me… coz it seems to be speaking of some depth in the series. “…A story close to your heart”, according to the PV… I wonder how true is that (or rather, how true that will be).

Mokke
Japanese Title: もっけ
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Air date: 10/02/2007
Synopsis: Fantasy mystery-drama based on a seinen manga. Shizuru and Mizuki are sisters born in a family with spiritual abilities. The elder sister, Shizuru, is able to see spirits; the younger, Mizuki, is easily possessed by them. As their calm and peaceful days of youth progress, the sisters have many encounters which lead them to respect and treasure life and all its beauties and marvels. – AniDB.net
Chef Chaff
absolute0: A down-to-earth story of a girl who sees spirits, and perhaps dead people too, and her sister who is possession-prone. Despite the supernatural backdrop, it seems to have more of a slice of life feel to it. I will certainly watch this.
BeLe: Twins sisters and the supernatural. Looks interesting enough.
Seleria: This does not seem to be a comedy, so kids seeing ghosts/spirits are creepy in my book.
usagijen: Interesting premise, with Madhouse for its animation production. So long as it’s not too creepy… >__<

Dragonaut – The Resonance
Japanese Title: ドラゴノーツ -ザ・レゾナンス-
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Gonzo
Air date: 10/03/2007
Synopsis: Caught in the battle of Thanatos, Jin, the chosen Dragonaut pilot crosses paths with Toa, the woman whom he owes his life, once more.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Somehow the character designs remind me of spring season’s Romeo x Juliet and the plot reminds me of Vandread.
BeLe: The PV looked promising but didn’t like the character art that much though. Checking it out purely because the seiyuus of Haruhi Suzumiya are in the show. Aya Hirano doesn’t take the lead in this one though.
Seleria: Not a fan of space romances, but Daisuke Ono (Itsuki Koizumi of Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) and Minori Chihara (Yuki Nagato of Haruhi Suzumiya) are the lead seiyuus. I’m a big Yuki fan, so who knows.
usagijen: An action mecha anime with much emphasis on <3 Jin x Toa reminds me of Athrun x Lacus, for some reason… I’m so looking forward to this one (especially with Daisuke Ono as Jin and Minori Chihara as Toa) :3

Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun
Japanese Title: ご愁傷さま二ノ宮くん
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: AIC Spirits
Air date: 10/03/2007
Synopsis: Shungo Ninomiya is living every healthy teenage boy’s dream: to live with a cute girl. His older sister had set up for Mayu to move in with him in hopes of curing her fear of men. As if things were not interesting enough, the student council president also join the dysfunctional household as Shungo’s maid.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Moe again??
BeLe: I foresee a lot of fanservice here just like most of the other novels in the DragonAge Magazine.
Seleria: If Shungo, the male protagonist, does not get a nosebleed every 10 minutes, this might be fun.
usagijen: I don’t seem to be disturbed by the blatant fanservice and ecchiness in this one… and I find that weird o__O It must be the not-so-ecchi Shungo who doesn’t seem like the typical lame male lead (in harem shows), the cute dojikko Mayu, the tsundere school president, the wacky brother of Mayu, or the Momoe-like sister of Shungo.

Hooray for Fish!
Japanese Title: スイスイ!フィジー!
Links: Website
Studio: WAO! World
Air date: 10/04/2007
Synopsis: Based on a children’s book, it follows the sploshy, splashy and splishy adventures of Little Fish and his pelagic friends.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Kawaii!
BeLe: Fishy fishy!! Here fishy fishy…make some splishy, splashy. lol.
Seleria: The book the anime is based from was written and illustrated by Lucy Cousins.
usagijen: Hmm… I guess I’ll just be curious to see how this is adapted into its animation counterpart.

You’re Under Arrest: Full Throttle
Japanese Title: 逮捕しちゃうぞ フルスロットル
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia

Synopsis: Natsumi Tsujimoto and Miyuki Kobayakawa patrol the streets as female law enforcers from the Bokuto Police Precinct. They, along with their co-officers, go off in wild and sometimes comedic adventures to bring down felons to keep Tokyo safe.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: The dynamic duo of Miyuki Kobayakawa and Natsumi Tsujimoto is back! I’ve seen the previous You’re Under Arrest shows though it was like a long time ago already. This one should still be fun.
BeLe: I’m gonna have to skip this one. Never really been a fan of the series. :D
Seleria: Akiko Hiramatsu, as Miyuki Kobayakawa, and Sakiko Tamagawa, as Natsumi Tsujimoto, reprise their roles as the well-beloved police women of You’re Under Arrest. Both seiyuus are in their 40s.
usagijen: Looking forward to more Natsumi x Toukairin rabu rabu <3 (I hope there will be, this time >__<)

Clannad
Japanese Title: CLANNAD -クラナド-
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Kyoto Animation
Air date: 10/04/2007
Synopsis: Tomoyo Okazaki is known to be a delinquent at school and ever since his mother died, he and his father have grown colder and farther apart. Life seemed bleak for Tomoyo until he meets Nagisa Furukawa.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: No, thanks.
BeLe: If you’ve seen Kanon then this’ll feel familiar yet different at the same time. Hope it stays true to the original material but I guess I don’t have to worry much about that since KyoAni is producing it.
Seleria: The only KyoAni offering for the season * sees fanboys doing the happy dance *.
usagijen: This is going to be one heart-wrenching series T__T But sigh… I’m weak against “bad guy turn to good as he falls in love” kind of premise, so… all I can hope for is that the love of the guy and whoever he’s going to end up with is not doomed (like the game =__=).

Shakugan no Shana Second
Japanese Title: 灼眼のシャナII
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia

Amidst the struggles, will their love finally enkindle or will the flame die out?
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Well, I haven’t seen the first season. It didn’t strike me as interesting.
BeLe: Been waiting for this for a long long time. It’s good to see the flaming tsundere back again.
Seleria: “Uruchai! Uruchai! Uruchai!” – Shana-tan XD
usagijen: I’ve been wanting to watch the first season, but since I wasn’t able to, I’m gonna have to preempt this first >__<

Tensai? Dr. Hamax
Japanese Title: 天才?Dr.ハマックス
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Trans Art Co.
Air date: 10/06/2007
Synopsis: Dr. Hamax – Defender of Nature!
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Looks like a show for kids.
BeLe: Kiddie show FTW!!!
Seleria: I hope that’s not a reflex hammer he’s bringing o__O
usagijen: …I’d rather watch Reality TV than immerse myself in this nature-friendly anime.

Shugo Chara!
Japanese Title: しゅごキャラ!
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Satelight
Air date: 10/06/2007
Synopsis: Little do the students of Seiyo Academy know that the “spice princess” Amu is actually a softie deep inside. With her wish to break away from this mask of coolness comes the birth of Amu’s three “Shugo Charas” (Guardian Charas) who are said to represent her desired personalities (or is it..?).
Chef Chaff
absolute0: * sigh *
BeLe: Not really a fan of these kind of shows but I’ll see if it’s any good or not.
Seleria: This may just be my shoujo fix for the season! I really like the art and animation. This is a PEACH-PIT work by the way!
usagijen: The gay prince who makes Amu blush with his gentlemanliness (if there’s such a word), and Amu’s supposedly rival (?) Ikuto who makes Amu blush with his smutty moves Ikuto > prince.. evil and naughty guys FTW X3 Amu x Ikuto reminds me of Ayano x Kazuma, with less sarcasm and evilness and more <3

Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Japanese Title: 機動戦士ガンダムOO 第1シーズン
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Sunrise
Air date: 10/06/2007

However, unequal usage of this resource throws Earth into war and turmoil. From the ashes of chaos arises the Celestial Being, a non-profit military organization, to save Earth from its own.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Yet another Gundam incarnation. I have a slight urge to watch this.
BeLe: Character art and the Mobile Suit design looks similar to Gundam Wing. Hoping it stays that way coz I’ve had enough of Kira and Gundam SEED.
Seleria: Another Gundam rehash.
usagijen: Gundamnit! It’s a vicious endless loop… o__O Looks like a remake, with old-school-looking character designs, and a male lead who seems like Heero Yuy (personality-wise).

ef – a tale of memories
Japanese Title: ef – a tale of memories
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: SHAFT
Air date: 10/06/2007
Synopsis: Hirono Hiro is a poor high school boy who gets by drawing shoujo manga. On a Christmas night, he chases down Miyamura Miyako, the girl who stole his bike. With the chance encounter blooming into a friendship, will Hiro’s childhood friend, Kei, just watch idly by the sidelines?
Chef Chaff
absolute0: * scratches head *
BeLe: Hope this anime adaptation doesn’t turn out like its H-game counterpart (read: crap).
Seleria: Hiro Shimono voices Hiro Hirono (Tajima of Ookiku Furikabutte, Ayato Kamina of RahXephon) is the “hiro” of the story, right? * gets shot for the bad pun *
usagijen: The PV drew me into this series with its music and melodramatic premise it presented. But it also made my “WTF melodrama alert” go on, which makes me all the more stay away from it. Oh the irony.

KimiKiss pure rouge
Japanese Title: キミキス pure rouge
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: J.C. Staff
Air date: 10/06/2007
Synopsis: Follow the lives of the young heroines of Kibina High during the springtime of April, the perfect season to for chance encounters and budding romances.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Sounds like a brand of cosmetics.
BeLe: The characters reminds me of the girls in Boys Be. School girls are a must watch and I’ve always been attracted to romance animes.
Seleria: Boy on a lip-locking crusade? With the game premise this bad, there’s no way the anime could be worse. I believe that J.C. Staff can turn this to something special.
usagijen: Here’s to hoping for a Boys Be female version (Girls Be? LOL). What seemed like a turnoff for its lame premise turns into a spark of interest as I see J.C.Staff, and the director of H&C behind it :3

Hatara Kids Maiham Gumi
Japanese Title: はたらキッズ マイハム組
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Toei Animation
Air date: 10/07/2007

Seleria: I am not watching this… Oh, look at granpa hamster flying in his spandex.
usagijen: It reminds me of chip and dale… it must be that girl hamster there ^^;;

Maple Story
Japanese Title: メイプルストーリー
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Madhouse Studious
Air date: 10/07/2007
Synopsis: Inspired from the 2D-Korean MMORPG of the same name, where players explore the Maple World and fight monsters, level up, and interact with other players through chat, trade, and mini-games.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Is this a kid’s show?
BeLe: Can’t really say much about it since there’s not a whole lot to tell besides it being based from an MMORPG of the same name. I just wish it won’t follow Ragnarok Online The Animation, we all know how that turned out.
Seleria: I didn’t like the game, but I am interested to see how they’ll turn it to an anime.
usagijen: I don’t know how this anime is going to turn out, but with the same director who worked on Otogizushi, it’s probably going into a good direction :)

Pururun! Shizuku-chan
Japanese Title: ぷるるんっ!しずくちゃん あはっ☆
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: TMS Entertainment
Air date: 10/07/2007
Synopsis: The story of a playful little (yet BIG) teardrop named Shizuku-Chan and her adventures in the Shizuku Forest.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Ah… the water cycle.
BeLe: A show about a raindrop sprite boy and his sprite friends. I feel my brain cells deteriorating.
Seleria: I don’t know how I feel about rain sprites with rainbows appearing on their foreheads.
usagijen: An anime with teardrops… that couldn’t help but make me * sweatdrop * the little teardrop is cute though ^^;;

Rental Magica
Japanese Title: レンタルマギカ
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: ZEXCS
Air date: 10/07/2007
Synopsis: Due to his father’s disappearance, the cowardly Itsuki Iba takes over their magician-dispatching company, Astral. As he leads a pack of magicians in carrying out requests from clients, he uncovers his powers and unravels mysteries of his past.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: People proficient with different types of magic offer their service to those with magic problems. Interesting. Somehow reminds me of Yuuko’s shop.
BeLe: Not sure if it’s any good. Your thoughts?
Seleria: Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch of Code Geass, Keiichi Shimizu of La Corda, Kimihiro Watanuki of xxxHolic) is going to give life to Itsuki Iba, the lead. I’ve been looking forward to watching this since spring!
usagijen: A unique blend of characters (and character designs <3), and a wimpy lead turning into SEED mode when his eyepatch gets activated. The comical and serious tones of the series mixes well in my opinion (at least in the manga), and there seems to be lots of things going on… some deep plot I’m dying to know. about.

Prism Ark
Japanese Title: プリズム・アーク
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Front Line
Air date: 10/07/2007
Synopsis: Preicia and Hyaweh are aspiring knights-to-be of the Rozenberg Knights Academy, who find themselves caught up in a devastating war…
Chef Chaff
absolute0: uh…..
BeLe: Wasn’t this an H-game? The title is very familiar and the picture reeks of H-game. Lol.
Seleria: You sure know your H, BeLe :p I really don’t know what to say about this title.
usagijen: I think the cute characters in this fantasy series makes me ignore the fact that it’s an H-game adaptation. Priecia and Hyaweh look so cute together! <3>

Minami-ke
Japanese Title: みなみけ
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia

Air date: 10/07/2007
Synopsis: The three Minami sisters (Haruka, Kana and Chiaki) live together, taking care of each other. With nobody to answer to but themselves and each other, the three sisters get up to some very odd shenanigans. – ANN
Chef Chaff
absolute0: A funny slice of life story of three sisters living on their own. Hmmm.
BeLe: I could use a little comedy this season if this show provides any like its manga counterpart.
Seleria: I am really drawn to this. It must be the family-oriented, slice-of-life feel to it.
usagijen: I find Class 5-2 a more fun read than this, but we’ll see.

Jyuushin Enbu – Hero Tales
Japanese Title: 獣神演武
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Studio Flag
Air date: 10/07/2007
Synopsis: Taitou, a young man living in ancient China, is the prophesied seventh star of the Hokuto (Big Dipper ). He must travel with his sister Laila and his friend Ryuukou to retrieve a sword and discover his destiny. – ANN
Chef Chaff
absolute0: This one is based on a period manga by Arakawa Hiromu of Fullmetal Alchemist fame. I wonder if this will be as good. I don’t like the character design of the lead though. To watch or not to watch? That is the question.
BeLe: From the same mangaka that brought us FMA, some of the elements in the story are similar to FMA but I’m expecting that it’ll be totally different. I’ll be on the lookout for this.
Seleria: Doesn’t seem as interesting as FMA. We’ll see.
usagijen: At this point I still see it as a generic fighting-genre anime.

Chef Chaff
absolute0: I can’t believe I missed the first season. I have to do a marathon of it in time for this one. Anyway, I like how this one portrays otakus of different kinds. I also like the concept of The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture.
BeLe: Skipped! Haven’t seen the first one. XD Should I watch it?
Seleria: Yoshi!!! I am so psyched to see this one! Definitely looking forward to more otaku goodness from the members of Genshiken!
usagijen: Haven’t watched the first one, so I’ll skip this.

Kodomo no Jikan

Synopsis: Daisuke Aoki is a grade school teacher at Futatsubashi Elementary School. Enter Rin Kokonoe, the mischievous third grader, who develops an intense crush on Daisuke. She will do anything to make her teacher fall in love with her.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: No more lolis. Please.
BeLe: Saw a portion of the OVA & the PV and if the series is anything like it, I’m keeping my hands and eyes away from it. Too much loli even for a lolicon. Well, a not-so-hardcore lolicon maybe. Beats Moetan and SkyGirls anyday.
Seleria: Definitely passing on this one. My ecchi-loli-pedo threshold is low.
usagijen: Super ecchi lolis going after a guy who doesn’t seem to have a spine… No thanks.

Moyashimon: Tales of Agriculture
Japanese Title: もやしもん
Links: Website, ANN Encyclopedia
Studio: Shirogumi Inc.
Air date: 10/11/2007
Synopsis: A story of a college student who sees germs as super-deformed characters. – ANN
Chef Chaff
absolute0: Bacteria of the world unite! The time to dominate has arrive. Anyway, this is the show that interests me the most among the bunch. I’ve never seem bacteria look sa kawaii! This show might be educational too.
BeLe: A show about fungus and viruses? Doesn’t seem to be very interesting.
Seleria: This has the most unique premise among the fall shows. The manga was one of the finalists in the 10th Osama Tezuka Cultural Award.
usagijen: Unique premise with the germy bacterias… but I don’t think I’m into agriculture stuff ^^;;

Shion no Oh
Japanese Title: しおんの王

Learning shogi at a very tender age at the tutelage of her foster father, she trailblazes to the competitive world of shogi. However, the shadows of her parents’ murder continue to follow her till today.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: This is about shougi. One seeped in mystery. The character design for the anime seems more moe than that of the manga.
BeLe: Mystery and shougi. I like shougi. Just might watch it.
Seleria: Hmmm 11-year-old Ishiwatari and 11-year-old Mayuki (Suteki Tantei Labyrinth) should meet, so she can ask him to help solve the mystery of her parents’ death.
usagijen: I’ll be anticipating how the mysteries and intrigue surrounding the life of Shioh will unfold~

Synopsis: Taro, Makoto and Masayuki are junior high school students. Because of a traumatic childhood experience, the three can travel to a spiritual world, which is somehow a reflection of our world. But some incidents arise in the spiritual world and the changes in that world slowly affect ours.
Chef Chaff
absolute0: It seems to be about a parallel world who’s events begin to affect ours. I have high expectations for this one as it is produced by Production IG. And Masamune Shirow is collaborating.
BeLe: Wow…a must watch! Reminds me of Jigoku Shoujo (a.k.a. Hell Girl, which I love by the way). Shirow Masamune (GitS & AppleSeed) is involved with production so it might be good. I love his works.
Seleria: Ryutaro Nakamura is the director whose previous works include Kino no Tabi, REC, and Serial Experiments Lain.
usagijen: Intriguing and evocative… yet creeppyyy @__@ It’s like Ghost Hunt with more serious tones and creepiness (minus whiny Mai and bishielicious Naru as well).

Chef Chaff
absolute0: Since it revolves around the tenants of an apartment where artists gather, I couldn’t help but recall Honey and Clover. Then again, this one’s moe, so next!
BeLe: Skipped the first one. Skipping this as well XD
Seleria: This looks cute and a lot of fun. I have to get my grubby paws on the first sesason.
usagijen: I’m gonna have to watch the original series first.

Seleria: Don’t forget about the rainbows, absolute0!
usagijen: …based on some set of postcards… * sweatdrops *

absolute0: Reminds me of Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are”.
BeLe: Is that Japan’s version of Smokey the Bear? XD
Seleria: Looks like it will be a slow-paced show.
usagijen: Read the “picture book” in the site, and I was moved to tears >__< It’s simple, yet touching… something for all ages (who appreciates slow-paced animes).

  1. You’re Under Arrest and Shakugan No Shana! WOOT!!

Some of the artwork makes me feel good about my drawings. :D hahaha! Many things might come up the same especially with character types – the-serious-and-bookish-but-very-nice-deep-inside-type are like the same person.

    Posted by dru | September 26, 2007, 11:10 am
  2. hmm .. seen the first shana so might as well see the 2nd .. as for the rest .. dunno yet ..

But at least this means that some of the previous and maybe previous-previous season’s shows are going to be finished soon. Time to start watching some of them.

    Thanks for the preview.

    Posted by Hinode | September 26, 2007, 1:07 pm
  3. Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, Ghost Hound, Gundam 00 (which I don’t see the Heero or Wing resemblance at all… since all I see is Loveless from Yun Kouga character designs) and Dragonaut . Moyashimon maybe, if I see the character designs and not just the bacteria. It might be surprisingly good. Seriously BAD season anyone who doesn’t like loli-moeblog crap though. I guess this is what I get for liking so much last season.

  4. Wooo!!! More anime!!!! Just in time, I am currently in an anime frenzy mood. @__@
Shakugan no Shana 2 – Can’t wait to watch it!
YUA: Full Throttle – I’ve always liked the character art on this series. Must watch!

As for the others…I’ll try looking into them, especially those that have nice artworks.

PS: Kawaii! Jenny is just outright weird. brrr…

    Posted by mimi | September 26, 2007, 3:02 pm
  5. @dru: LOL… that’s the spirit! :P hmm… well, the other characters you thought were simply stereotypes might turn out to be a surprise :3

@Hinode: there are many shows this season that seems promising… but of course to each his own :)

@anne: I’m not referring to the Gundam00 guy’s looks, but rather his personality, which is similar to Heero. The antisocial and stoic type.

@mimi: hurray for a new season :p and yes… kawaii jenny is disturbing, especially after seeing the trailer =__=

    Posted by usagijen | September 26, 2007, 4:26 pm
  6. Here’s Kawaii! Jenny’s trailer for anyone who’s daring enough.

@anne: the mobile suit designs looks very similar to gundam wing’s mobile suits…look at the head and the body frames for the suits.

  7. There’s lots of moe-crap but at least I have more choices from fall anime.

As I’ve posted in my blog, my sure bets are:
    – Gundam 00
    – Shakugan no Shana II
    – Genshiken 2nd Series
    – GHOST HOUND
    – Blue Drop

    @absolute0

Not all yuri is bad lol. It all depends on how it’s portrayed. ;-)

    Posted by hayase | September 26, 2007, 7:00 pm
  8. @usagijen – yp .. i’ll just wait until the fall season goes full blast and look forward to the comments / opinions of the community on the titles mentioned .. go chefs!! ..

hmm .. just a thought .. is it possible for the esteemed chefs of scrumptious to do a wrap-up on the previous (and maybe previous-previous) season’s titles? .. :D ..

    Thanks again .. (^_^)=b ..

    Posted by Hinode | September 26, 2007, 8:04 pm
  9. @hayase

I’m not saying yuri is bad but it’s not my cup of tea. Well, I do think Shizuru and Natsuki make a great pair. XD

    Posted by absolute0 | September 26, 2007, 8:05 pm
  10. @Hinode I think that doing a wrap-up for the previous seasons would be hard because we haven’t seen all the titles. However, we’ll see what we can do in that area. Thank you for the suggestion :D

  11. So many terms, so many short-hands. *head spinning*

I like the point-of-views though. Hmm I am either not into anime that much or I am totally senile that I don’t
seem to get it :) Nothing registered in my richter scale. Well the hamster made me smile but that barbie one is totally way off.

I had my share of Gundams and mecha animes. Too bad I can’t sense any interesting thing with Gundam 00 or Dragonauts. Even the fantasy ones are not the exciting.

I might still want to check them out tho because I love mechas :)

Only one that got me curious is Rental Magic…sounds fun :)

  12. w00t! Lotsa anime to watch!! ^__^
Though, I end up watching the anime with good art…unless the story is REALLY good XD

I’m probably gonna watch Shugo Chara just for he Amu x Ikuto stuff XD

CLANNAD, well, since that they made Kanon and Air (that one too right?), it would probably really sad. Still have to finish Kanon though…

I would watch Shakugan no Shana but I’m just to lazy to finish the first series >_> Maybe I really wasn’t interested from the start >_>

MIGHT watch Night Wizard The Animation, the guy reminds me of Kazuma for some reason XD Must be the hair…lol

Myself; Yourself seems pretty interesting. The art drew me into it.

I guess Minami-ke. Seems like it’ll be a funny show.

ef – a tale of memories…the art looks really pretty though…the story doesn’t seem THAT interesting >__>

Kimikiss looks cool. I love romance stuff XD (sucker for romance)

D.C…art’s pretty sotry..eeh dunno, but I would be too lazy to watch the first season anyway >__>

    Other notes:
    Eeer…that girl with the pink hair in dragonaut looks like that girl in Eureka 7 O__o;

And WTF MAPLESTORY!? That game my friends keep telling me to play X__x;; eeeeer..weird much?

    Posted by Tomochii-Chan | September 27, 2007, 6:08 am
  13. @bum3le8e3 I’ve seen the trailer for Rental Magica, it looks promising. The art and animation looks good. I hope it can deliver :D

@Tomochii-Chan Yeah, KyoAni did Kanon and Air. CLANNAD looks to be another one of those sad stories.

I took a peek at the BAMBOO BLADE manga and I liked it a lot. I like the comedy and the wackiness, the kendo doesn’t hurt either. The characters are whack, maybe you’ll enjoy it as well ^__^

    Posted by Seleria | September 27, 2007, 10:28 am
  14. @bum3le8e3: Rental Magic is really fun X3 *___* I have high hopes for this one~

@Tomochii-Chan: that’s my worry about Clannad too… if the story is bound to have a sad ending… =__=

as for the guy in Night Wizard, I don’t think he possesses the same coolness and badass feel of Kazuma… hehe XD

EF’s story will be a wtfudge one, I’m quite sure of that. Kimikiss on the other hand might turn out to be a pleasant surprise :)

and Toa does look a bit like that girl in Eureka 7… but their personality seems different.

lol @ your reaction on Maple Story. It might turn out to be a fun show XD

    Posted by usagijen | September 27, 2007, 11:20 am
  15. nice list.

    my own comments:
BAMBOO BLADE – started the manga, couldn’t stand it, won’t bother.
    Kawaii! Jenny – WTFF?!
Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku – dust, for a second there i thought you said you got interested *because* there was some yuri in it, hehe.
Myself; Yourself – you should add more information about the shows. i don’t know if this is a romance, mystery or horror. “much has changed” could mean a lot of things.
Dragonaut – The Resonance – i’m staying away from space ships. not interested anymore.
    Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun – ditto on “moe again!??!”
Youre Under Arrest: Full Throttle – not interested. though YUA was interesting, “interesting” doesn’t cut it anymore.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 – and yet another one. pass.
KimiKiss pure rouge – i think i saw a chapter of kimikiss in my of my jump mags. the art looks good, but by the way the girls are smiling on the poster, it looks more like a highschool romance than boy’s be drama.
    Minami-ke – might-watch, not must-watch.
Genshiken 2 – !!!!!! i got pissed as hell that the 1st season was as short as it was, but i’m glad the got a second one coming. can’t wait! ogiue!!
Ghost Hound – love the colors, looks serious enough. might watch.

  16. @seleria, usagijen

i’ve seen the trailer…it got me curious .. i wonder what that eye is for. I sense a monster complex brewing :)

It only tells me a bit of their powers…but it would be interesting to know, how they use it and on what situations :)

i hope it doesn’t have sensei negima feel to it :)

    Posted by bum3le8e3 | September 27, 2007, 11:31 pm
  17. geshiken.. lets see some one else integration to fandom jeje

ghost hound becaus I loved Chara design and id from IG, that i really luvv

ajin taitei nougami neuro . sound like something righ on my alley

  18. Firstly, thanks alot for the list :-)

Definitely (unless they disappoint me greatly, chances are, I’ll watch theese until the end):
SHANA II – After watching Shana I, ZnT I, ZnT II, the chance of me missing this one if, uh, about zero.
Prism Ark – Loved the game… though I absolutely hate that picture, Karin is teh farthest in teh background…
Kodomo no Jikan – I was rather sceptical when I heard about this (having an adversion to lolifanservice), but decided to give the OVA a try… and to my surprise found it really funny. If they adhere to the manga, this WON’T become a second Moe-tan. Yes, 3 of its main characters are loli, and it has quite some fanservice – it has also a pretty interesting backstory and actually funny humour which, for me, make it still worth it. And of course moral panics never fail to piss me off.

Probably(I’ll watch the first few eps and then decide):
    Bamboo Blade (interesting concept)
    Blue Drop (uh… lets see)
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuru (Riddleeating demon… how could I resist that one?)
Suteki Tantei Labyrinth (This one could eother fail dramatically or be rather interesting… lets see)
Night Wizard (I HOPE this won’t share the fate of teh last few RPG conversion…)
Myself, Yourself (no idea why I like this one)
Clannad (KyoAni-Key anime… gotta collect them all, or something)
ef (Never got around to play that one, so I’ll give its anime a try)
Rental Magica (Premise sounds rather interesting)
Shion no OU (Looks pretty interesting)

The prize for “Most WTFy entry” goes to Kowaii! Jenny. Seriously, WTF? ;-)

I’ll probably drop half of the series in the “probably” category after a few weeks and start watching a few series that have been discussed here and on othe rblogs… happened every season so far :D

    Posted by Gloranor | September 28, 2007, 2:08 am
  19. The ones I’ll probably watch:
    Rental Magica
    Ghost Hound
    Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro

Mostly because they sound interesting… most of the other ones have too many girls! XD.

    Posted by zuo | September 29, 2007, 10:33 am
  20. @bum3le8e3 The trailer and the series in general gives off the same vibes as Read Or Die. I hope the action is as exciting as ROD.

    @erin
On Genshiken, I am planning to marathon it this weekend.

For Ghost Hound, the character designs are somewhat haunting… perfect for this kind of anime. Though, I am mainly watching because Production I.G. is animating and I love their work.

@Gloranor Thanks for your input on Prism Ark and Kodomo no Jikan. I plan to watch the OVA for Kodomo no Jikan and find out for myself what it really is.

There really is no beating Kawaii Jenny in the WTF department XD

@zuo I know what you mean. This season is so lacking in testosterone TT__TT

    Posted by Seleria | September 29, 2007, 10:42 am
  21. Hmm…There’s plenty up there…Don’t know if I can get all that time to watch them…O.O

Anyway, my prime picks are Shakugan no Shana Second (when were her eyes sapphire when her hair was red? XD), Clannad, Gundam 00 and Rental Magica. The ‘Maybes’ would include Night Wizard, Myself; Yourself plus a few fantasy/supernatural-laden titles. Maybe even Da Capo II, even though I absolutely despised the end pairing.

Just to ensure…Is this Dragonaut a continuation? I just might be interested enough to catch a few episodes before deciding firmly whether to continue.

Posted by Owaranai Destiny | September 30, 2007, 12:13 am
  22. @bum3le8e3: you are somewhat right on the monster complex relation there… hehe… but I haven’t read enough to know up to what extent his eye’s powers can do.

@erin: one of the main reasons why I’m looking forward to Ghost Hound (aside from me sensing some Ghost Hunt in it) is because of production IG!

@Gloranor: wow… you must have a lot of tolerance for loli ecchiness to enjoy watching Kojika XD I have to see and find out if I’m up for it.

and I totally agree with you on the WTFness of Kowai Jenny XD

    @zuo: rawr! need… more… bishies…!!!

@Owaranai Destiny: hmm… I haven’t heard of Dragonaut being a continuation… looks like you know more about it than we do o__o

    Posted by usagijen | October 1, 2007, 4:57 pm
  23. @Seleria & Usagijen
Yeah, even though the ending might be really sad, I’ll still watch it x3 I just find the way they make the endings so sad yet beautiful at the same time brings literally tears to my eyes T__T Especially Air. I dunno about Kanon though yet.

I also saw that there’s a movie of CLANNAD. I wanted to see it but it might have spolers for the ending..unless the story is different.

And yeah…maple story…hmm…Maybe a preview or trailer would help me make my decision XD

    Posted by Tomochii-Chan | October 3, 2007, 4:45 am
  24. By the way, the shows need more bishies >.

    Posted by Tomochii-Chan | October 3, 2007, 4:47 am
  25. Update: Genshiken II is Definitely as well now. I heard about it ages ago, didn’t check it out though… just saw a picture of the manga 10 hours ago and decided to immediatly marathon the 1st anime season. Probably the best use of time I should’ve spent sleeping in ages.

    Impressions so far:
Night Wizard: Has promise and I like its style, but I’lkl have to wait for subs to be sure. Probably stay.
    Bamboo Blade: Pretty funny. Dito.
Majin tantei Nogami Neuro: Pretty strange. Will almost certainly stay, if only for that strangeness factor.
Suteki Tanteio Labyrinth: Can’t judge it without subs, but looks nice so far.

    Posted by Gloranor | October 3, 2007, 4:23 pm
  26. Just wanted to say Thank You for a complete and thorough review. I like Mokke and Bamboo Blade so far just by watching them in Japanese. :)

    Posted by GiGi | October 4, 2007, 3:05 am
  27. @Tomochii-Chan I also watched AIR and a bit of Kanon. AIR was really emotional and it moved me, though some parts were very confusing. I just hope that CLANNAD won’t be too much of a tearjerker.

@Gloranor I also managed to marathon Genshiken the past weekend. I liked it a lot and am wanting more Saki antics! I think you might want to look at Sketchbook ~full color’s~, you may like it. I only managed to see BAMBOO BLADE and Sketchbook. I’ll probably be posting first impression posts as I see more

@GiGi I am glad you found our preview helpful :) I am sure that the chefs and readers would find it useful if you would share your comments on the shows. Thanks in advance.

    Posted by Seleria | October 4, 2007, 9:31 am
  28. @Seleria: Thanks, I’ll check Sketchbook out as soon as there a subs (doesn’t look like series that would make sense to me without subtitles)

Also just got the first Shana II episode (yeah, slow, I know)… though I’ll recuse myself from judging it due to extreme fanboyitis. Lets just say I got the OP on loop now XD

    Posted by Gloranor | October 5, 2007, 7:08 am
  29. I’m watching Rental Magica and Ghost Hound. I’m supposed to follow Ninomiya-kun, but the first episode is a fail (charas in anime don’t look like in the visual novel, too much ecchi for my senses. I thought I was gonna be mild, but oh well…) so I won’t watch it anymore.

I hope Rental Magica and Ghost Hound won’t fail.

    Posted by linnah-chan | October 6, 2007, 12:57 am
  30. @Gloranor: Sketchbook is definitely a must-watch! Lighthearted slice of life anime that doesn’t fail to entertain~ :)

@linnah-chan: The production values for Ninomiya-kun is rather low, but for some odd reason I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. /me scratches head

Here’s to hoping that Rental Magica and Ghost Hound will live up to my expectations.

    Posted by usagijen | October 8, 2007, 9:29 am

  33. thanks Scrumptious for the list! :D

for my feedback, well i’ve watched the first eps of:

Bamboo Blade – so far i’m still slightly interested

Dragonaut – for once, the pink-haired girl is actually cool

Ghost Hound – lightly creepy and disturbing. nice ^_^

Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro – a bit annoying but i like mysteries so maybe i’ll continue for now

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 – watched up to ep 3 already hihi

Mokke – boring, don’t like it, won’t continue

Night Wizard The Animation – no real comment yet so i guess i’ll check out the next.

Rental Magica – not that cool for my taste but for now i think i’ll stick

Shakugan no Shana Second – confusing but very nice comeback ep, reminds the viewer of some events in the previous season

You’re Under Arrest Full Throttle – well i got bored on some parts, but as a fan of Natsumi, i’ll keep watching

and i also plan to check out:

Juushin Enbu – i hope there’s lots of cool fighting techniques

Shion no Ou – not a fan of the game but curious about the plot

Suteki Tantei Labyrinth – i’m curious about the mysteries tho i bet this anime will turn out to be too bright or kiddy for me

    Posted by Sirione | October 27, 2007, 3:20 pm
  34. This might be really late, but I just wanted to point out that the author of FMA only drew Hero Tales, she didn’t write it (which’ll probably explain it’s… lower than average plot).

  36. I have seen your comments on Kodomo no Jikan and they are strange to me. Have you not seen the anime before posting this?
This is an anime about a girl, who’s father wanted her mother to abort her. Her mother raised her alone until pre-school, but then her younger relative came to live with them because both his parents died. Then the mother got cancer and died. The little girl was left with that relative, who cared for them both, but she needed an adult to feel secure.
All this ‘hunting’ her teacher is because she needed to feel loved by an adult. All of this is explained in the anime, why do you only look at the pictures instead of trying to understand the reasons?
And it is usual for kids in japan to talk about sex in school, there are blogs on the web by people who work as exchange teachers, they write, that they had a shock when they discovered this, but then realised that it is only talk.
They are more open about these things, but they are still kids. Don’t put more into this than there is.

  37. @Kat: geez. Please look at the date of the post, before you blurt out those insulting remarks?

This post is dated September 26, 2007, like two weeks before KnJ’s airing. And no, we did not read the manga back at that time, because of our initial prejudice against it.

Now if it makes you feel any better, I watched the first ep when it aired, and read the first volume of the manga, and I liked it. I found it to be reminiscent of GTO, and managed to appreciate it despite its loliness. Sorry for not posting any follow-ups on this one, because there are tons of other shows out there that are deserving of love and attention, not only KnJ =___=”’

  38. Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro is really great anime and manga. I wonder if there gonna make a 2nd season though?

    Posted by Alexander | April 23, 2008, 6:06 am
  39. Thanks for posting this! I got some great anime from here to watch now. The Blue Drop anime looks nice-even if it is yuri.
I like that kind of stuff-I’m not a homosexual!(nothing against them they are very nice people) I just like to think that love can conquer anything-including gender.I just think stuff like that is sweet. a plus is that it’s sci-fi and I love that kind of stuff too! Star Wars, Star Trek, and Stargate Atlantis!

Did u notice all of the ‘STAR’s there were?
