First Impressions: Dragonaut – The Resonance

The trailer for Dragonaut looked decent so I thought of trying to watch the first episode, perhaps it would be interesting. Well, the animation is crisp compared to that of Mokke or Blue Drop.

The first episode starts with a guy named Jin and his friend, Kazuki, talking at an airport. They look at a shuttle which Jin will be riding later. His mother is an astronomer and Jin is taking advantage of the opportunity to travel. Jin’s father, who is the shuttle’s pilot, arrives. He talks to Jin about how beautiful space is. He leaves, as duty calls, and tells Jin that they will see each other on the moon.

The shuttle takes off and Kazuki watches. However, three objects from space enter the atmosphere, like meteors, and collide with the shuttle. It explodes and soon Jin finds himself falling, along with the shuttle’s debris.

Jin is the only survivor of that accident, which was attributed to the pilot’s (Jin’s father) error. It’s been two years since then and Jin, who now looks like Naruto’s Sasuke, is living with his relatives. Jin, however, feels alone.

Anyway. we are introduced to an organization known as ISDA whose aim is to prevent a space entity known as Thanatos, from destroying the Earth. We meet a character from ISDA’s Lindwurm unit, Liner Cromwell and his companion, Howling Star, who looks like someone who got out of Shaman King.

The ISDA is currently working on the D-Project, creating Dragonauts. They are people who have resonated with dragons and have gained the dragons’ powers. Jin’s friend, Kazuki, has recently become a Dragonaut.

Well, Jin gets attacked by some humanoid monster. He gets rescued by a pink haired girl, who introduces herself to him as Toa. ISDA seems to have an interest with the girl as she may be Alwurm’s Communicator, whatever that means.

At first, I thought Dragonaut would be something like a space opera, but it seems to be something different. It is set in the future and the, moon, then, seems to have a human colony, as Jin and his family were going there, on a commercial flight. Dragons exist in Dragonaut’s world and technology has been developed to harness the dragons’ powers via the Dragonauts.

As for the characters, I only found Jin, Toa and Kazuki interesting so far. The others are annoying. And what’s with those ridiculously huge-breasted women anyway?

The opening theme, “perfect blue” by Jazzin’ Park and Atsumi is good and a little catchy. The ending theme, however, is something I forgot.

Well, at this point, I can’t say if Dragonaut is something I should watch or not. I guess I would try a few episodes more but definitely, I won’t be blogging about this.

  1. If you’re looking for something like a space opera, why not try Toward Terra? It doesn’t have ridiculously huge-breasted women. :D

  2. Well overall, i thought this anime would be rediculous by title. Though when actually watching the first two episodes i found it to be rather interesting. The storyline is one of those learn it as you go things, always gotta love those. They leave you guessing as to what happens next.

And as for the big breasts part, i mean come on. almost EVERY anime has atleast one girl with big breasts. Japan is just like that, i don’t even notice it anymore. lol

  3. @Keba

I know. But as I said, they are ridiculously huge. I’m still watching the episodes to see how it goes though.
