My Condolences, Ninomiya-kun. And condolences to myself? For making me laugh and enjoy the show despite its utter ridiculousness. It’s so bad, that it’s so good, as some might put it. I found it really weird and surprising, that a supposedly fanservice(for men)-hater like me will be able to tolerate this, more so, actually find it amusing o_O. I think I’ll put all that blame to Ninomiya, for managing to stand out against the pile of lame stereotypical harem leads out there. Heck I don’t think I would’ve been able to survive this show if not for this guy.
Further butchering and bashing beyond this point, and some redeeming as well.
Episode 1 in a Naughty Little Rabbit’s Eyes
As I began to watch Ninomiya, I buckled up and prepared myself, to drown in fanservice. Having read the first chapter of the manga, which was explicitly more ecchi than the novel, I wasn’t surprised at the amount of fanservice in the anime. So you can say the anime lived up to that “expectation”. I was rather surprised however, to find the main guy to be more badass than I imagined him to be, as he kicks a bear’s ass right at the start of the episode, for “training purposes”. The sister of course is more of a badass than him, which makes it all the more entertaining well at least for me. He is also more of a softie than I thought, as he actually apologizes to the polar bear he knocked out. A true gentleman.
Then we see how Shungo Ninomiya’s school life is. Badass and a rough guy that he is, he’s actually a plaything of both guys and girls in school, as they all want to see the poor naïve guy in distress for reasons inexplicable. Seeing all the girls want to show him their pantsu and perhaps, do him, is really wtfudgeBBQsauceee =__= One logical reason behind this is the fact that Shungo isn’t attracted to their charms at all, unlike most pervs out there. This of course, puts Shungo in a much better light and all those women in a realllyyy bitchy position. This effort of Shungo to become a true gentleman amidst a pack of wolves does not go unrewarded, as he receives a present specially delivered by a helicopter. The BBBBB, beautiful baka boobsy bashful babe Mayu, which could either spell moe for some people, or plainly ridiculous to others. I think it will all depend on which B stands out for you.
Shungo and Mayu faint after landing in quite an awkward position, and the next thing we know, they’re together in a hospital bed. We are shown a little ‘mystery’ flashback scene here before Shungo woke up, with a little Shungo and a little girl playing prince and sleeping beauty.
Shungo is a real man after all, as he finds himself struggling to resist the oozing sexual pheromones of Mayu, whose dress was clearly made out to show her boobies and much about her skin while still leaving room for some little mysteries to be unraveled. He struggles hard, and wins over the temptation of wanting to touch the soft and supple bosom that befell his eyes. Hurray for Shungo~! He reverts back to his gentleman self as he covers up Mayu with a blanket to ease the flames of temptation as well, disturbing her sleep. Mayu mistakes him for a pervert, oh not. She drives him away, worried that she might suck away his life force if she touches him. *sweatdrop* But then, her touch doesn’t affect him at all. And then comes a role reversal as Mayu feels Shungo up, confirming whether he really is immune to her seductive touch.
Mayu’s brother Mikihiko Tsukimura whose name 美樹彦 sounds so gay makes a dramatic entrance before handing Shungo a cellphone. He gets a call right at that instant from Mao his sister who’s currently on an FMP-like mission, ordering a sortie to be Mayu’s knight in shining armor, on top of being the almighty maid in the household where the Tsukimura siblings will be joining them.
Guys who represent the stereotype pervert come barging into the room, finding themselves unable to resist Mayu’s pheromones. They transform into zombie-like hentais, desperate to touch the succubus which lures them. As they are from a low caliber league of guys, Mayu’s touch was enough to knock them down. Shungo embarks on his mission “Operation SM”, that is, Saving Mayu
They finally reach the shelter, and we see Shungo in his other role: being an all-around meido. A guy maid just like kamen no maid guy over here doesn’t look and feel right of course, so Mayu helps make the scene visually sound and well, fanservice-filled. Mayu certainly lives up to doing just that, instead of the kitchen chores she’s supposedly helping out with. Accidents are inarguably inevitable, since they bring forth chance for ecchi situations which is like heaven to a hentai. We have some accidental panty shots, some slippery slip-ups between a guy and a clumsy girl who gets all wet, in her now transparently revealing dress. In any case, Shungo clearly stands as a victor, remaining intact and “bloodful” amidst all this ecchiness.
Shungo however is a real man, as I’ve also mentioned before, and gets tempted to kiss the defenseless sexy gal in his arms. Until, his sister gives him a friendly warning about a possibility of him experiencing the “kiss of death”, while prodding him to go on and kiss the girl~ Nighttime comes and an eery air of mystery envelopes the Ninomiya house as Mikihiko reveals how they are from a vampiric lineage. Mayu just ended up inheriting much of the extremities of being a succubus, with her ability to attract men despite her androphobia, and to suck them out of their life force with a touch, and a kiss of death. This extremity is also evident in how Mayu was able to attract the likes of Shungo who’s supposedly indifferent to women. Mikihiko is actually more than willing to entrust his beloved sister’s body and soul? to Shungo, so long as he’s prepared for its consequences.
Shungo was somehow saddened by the fact that he can’t kiss Mayu unless he’s ready to die in exchange for it. Assuming that he’s not shallow, I’ll say he’s also saddened by the fact that Mayu can’t quite live a normal life. He steps inside the bathroom to pick up the laundry, only to find Mayu’s pantsu and a semi-nekkid Mayu who was just about to step out of the shower room. An awkward moment follows, before they have a little sweet back-to-back talk. Shungo reveals how he found out about her body condition, and amazingly enough, honestly tells her that he felt a little afraid of her. Stirred up by the mood of the steambath perhaps, Mayu confides about her sappy dream of living together with the man she loves, absurd as this might seem for an androphobic succubus like her. Shungo becomes all sentimental as he follows this up with more cheesiness, telling her to hold on to her dream and not give up, because he’ll be there to help her make this happen - a promise he’ll regret for the rest of his life. Sentimental fools =___=
Mayu was oh so touched, and once again gets into her habit of slipping up. This time, Shungo sees her in all bareness, making the poor guy(?) fall down on his knees to take further peek as he takes back what he said earlier, because the little ounce of restraint left within him is soon to die out, if this ecchiness continues. The lovey-dovey talk he had with Mayu however was all caught on tape by his mischievous sister, and as a man of his word, Shungo can’t do anything but to live up to his promise. Oh, and Mikihiko acts like this sex maniac doctor who advises Shungo to just follow his ‘fleshly’ desires and do what he wants with his sister, because restraint is bad for the health *sweatdrop*
Shungo can’t do anything against his sister’s order of undertaking this “special training” to help out Mayu and prove that he’s not gay. The brother and the sister prepares a love hotel room specially for them, as part of this “training”. Naïve or rather baka Mayu is A-ok with the plan, but the equally naïve training partner Shungo complains about how only married people should be sleeping together. 3 against 1, with Shungo at the losing side. In the end, they end up sleeping together, with Mayu doing her cutesy “yoroshiku ne~” (thanks in advance) and Shungo sighing at the inescapable situation he’s in.
The scene then shifts to the school president Reika Houjo, who’ll be joining the household probably in the next episode.
Thoughts
To put it bluntly, this is a no-brainer, nosebleed, sweatdrop and headache inducing anime with all the blatant fanservice and wtfudge circumstances. To top it off, there’s also the eccentric, over-the-top or plainly stupid characters who lost all their faculty of logical judgment, especially the brother and the sister. I mean, who in his sane mind would sell his sister and enjoy the thought of her making out with a guy just to cure her androphobia?! Any normal brother, or a brother with sister complex for that matter, would even be happier that his sister is afraid of guys one way or another. Well, perhaps oniichan over here has full trust and confidence on Shungo, but that’s not the point! And, there’s actually one more viable solution Mayu can opt to take to counter her androphobia. yuri is the answer.
Despite the rather sardonic tone of this post of mine, you’ll find it hard to believe that I actually enjoyed every bit of this show. I find that odd as well. Talk about guilty pleasure down to the very bits. I guess Shungo’s impact on me must have been so great, enough for me to overlook all the flaws of the show and actually find it amusing. Even the meager production values of the show didn’t matter much anymore, though it could’ve been great with crisp and fluid animation, especially with the action and extravagant effects they put in. I like the character designs, so I think that made it more tolerable as well.
The production values aren’t really a complete failure, since voice acting wise, I’d say the cast is pretty good. Melissa Mao of FMP’s seiyuu Michiko Neya especially, fits the role of the sister Ryoko very well. Mikihiko, reminds me so much of Oscar from HanaKimi, was portrayed well by Ken Narita as well. That, and, I was actually touched by the sweet little scenes in the episode, amidst all the fanservice. And what do you know, Ninomiya seems to have drawn out the hidden creative writing juices from my little bunny brain LOL.
I have done some browsing of the novels, and from what I’ve seen, there’s a little back-story which binds Mayu and Reika (the school president / soon-to-be-meido) to our hero Shungo. Something with regards to their childhood past, which I found to be, cute and nifty in a way. It shows that at least, not everything here is stupid and random. Hmm… I guess I can give a little bit more info on Reika here now…
I’m still thinking if I should blog this or not… perhaps just for the sake of bashing or poking fun at it LOL.

Admittingly I did think of yuri being an answer to Mayu’s problem when I first heard about it. But I guess if she spent all that time in a girl’s convent and still didn’t feel that way it wasn’t going to happen. Even though she’s got a fear of guys she still wants to end up with one eventually.
Have to agree Shungo is one impressive character. Being able to resist Mayu to a solid degree in comparison to others, but not completely resistant. Beating down a bear, dislocating a shoulder to escape those girls. Just enjoyed this episode for the nice moments you could find there.
After enjoying following the blogging for KnS wouldn’t mind going along with this series. Nothing wrong with having fun with a series after all.
Great blog - Please continue.
I totally agree with most of your comments usagijen. Thoroughly enjoyable despite itself!
