Shugo Chara Episode 2 ā Egg of the Heart

Summary
Amu continues to be as stubborn as ever, still not acknowledging the fact that Ranās genki-ness actually represents her wannabe-self. Afraid that her classmates would ridicule her for her out-of-character love confession to Prince Tadase, she was relieved to see that her classmates welcomed this surprise and accepted this other side of her personality. A little while later in class, Nadeshiko Fujisaki, the Guardiansā Q Chair, personally invites her to their After-school Tea Gathering, as Tadase is especially interested in her eggs. Hesitant to attend this gathering at first, Amu decides to take this chance to return the Humpty Lock and see her prince again.
PE time comes and mischievous little Ran decides to volunteer Amu in demonstrating āhow to handle barsā to the third graders, earning her some vicious scolding. With Amu still unable to fully accept Ran in her life, her blue egg hops away in fear of being rejected as well. Amu decides to look for her egg after class, unwillingly sacrificing the time she was supposed to allot for the Guardiansā Tea Gathering. Ran is saddened by the fact that Amu still doesnāt see Shugo Charas as anything but nuisance in her life.
Amuās second Shugo Chara makes its surprising appearance during their art class, as it turns her into a painting prodigy. Unlike Ran however, this Shugo Chara gives her a hard time as it doesnāt seem to approve of her. After some chasing, it introduces itself as Miki, and reveals how its hesitation stems from the lack of belief Amu has on them (her Shugo Charas). If Amu doesnāt trust her Shugo Charas, and how it represents the great possibilities of her own abilities, they will disappear sooner or later. Amu shows her dere-dere side as she places her trust on her Shugo Charas, while maintaining her tsun-tsun stubborn self as she insists that she hasnāt fully accepted them. Miki then happily tags along with her. Unknown to Amu, a villain is just around the corner watching her every move. Ikuto on the other hand is lying somewhere by the green meadows, recalling how the Humpty Lock responded to Amu, who probably possesses the Embryo. She has THREE eggs after all, an extremely extraordinary case.
Amu heads to the Tea Gathering, and gets mesmerized by the shiny Prince Tadase yet again. The guardianās introduce themselves together with their Shugo Charas, Kingās Chair Tadase Hotori with Kiseki, Queenās Chair Nadeshiko Fujisaki with Temari, Aceās Chair Yaya Yuiki with Pepe, and Jackās Chair Kuukai Souma with Daichi. Rather than the fact that all the Guadians possess Shugo Charas, Amu was even more surprised to find that these Guardians actually know everything about her, personality-wise and Shugo Chara wise. They are after all the one in charge of the studentās personal information.
They cut to the chase as they finally reveal their intention of having Amu join the Guardian Society, as thereās still no one in their group who can Chara-nari. Tadase just used his Shugo Chara powers in the last episode, but he still hasnāt undergone the actual Chara-nari for him to be able to use its power to its fullest extent. According to the āEgg of Our Heartsā picture book authored by the founder of Guardians (the first King), each and every child has this egg in their hearts, which disappears when one gets older. Oneās pessimism also puts this egg on the verge of turning into a batsu-tama (X egg). Amuās chara-nari ability will then come in handy in bringing back this egg back to its original form with the cutesy little wings and heart~
Even Tadaseās convincing power and shining radiance was not enough to persuade Amu into joining the Guardians, for the simple reason of not wanting to wear their royal cape which she thinks will tarnish her image. Amu knows her weakness and just runs away, before she gives in to Prince Tadaseās puppy-dog-eyes pleading. Amu thinks itās also better this way, as she doesnāt want to stand out any more than she already is at this point. She also thinks of wanting to be just a normal little girl, which is obviously fated NOT to happen.
While Amu thinks about how sheās gonna give back the humpty lock to Tadase, she comes across Suzuki, the guy he saved from the thugs in the first episode and was also the guy having difficulty in the horizontal bars earlier in PE. Filled with much shame than an incompetent guy like him doesnāt have the right to become a fan of the COOL and SPICY Amu, Suzuki also thinks thereās no way his dream can come true at this rate. With hope now turned despair, his dreamful egg now turns into a batsu-tama. Amu unconsciously draws out the power of her Shugo Chara and fills Suzukiās negative heart with much hope and love from rabu rabu Ran.
Suzuki regains consciousness as he gets his egg back and Amu scolds him to have confidence in himself. Amu goes all tsuntsun as she tells him that having fear is but normal for a person, so they arenāt much different in that sense. Suzuki is certainly touched by Amuās words and is able to receive her spice power. It pierces through his heart and gets over the top of his head actually, as he starts dreaming like mad about how he can be a rich bostad once he becomes the president of an IT company, and more importantly, become Amuās greatest fan. Amu sends him flying as he approaches her like some maniac, a scene also witnessed by the rest of the Guardians. She once again runs away in shame, but Nadeshiko will never give up in persuading Amu to join them. Back at home, Ran rejoices at how Amu was able to chara-nari again, but Amu once again denies having enjoyed this experience. Little Miki then insults her for being uncute and stubborn, a common remark for a tsundere like Amu.
Thoughts
Fun fun fun! I am so loving this show~ despite the lack of justice for hottie Ikuto so far. But goodness⦠I canāt believe Iām writing out all these cheesy stuff about eggs and all⦠in the summary LOL. Tell me right now if this somewhat lengthy and cheesy summary is of no help, and Iāll be glad to shorten it and get rid of the cheesiness, to concentrate on my thoughts.
In some ways, they have made the pacing of the anime, slower yet faster, compared to the manga. Slower in that they fill in some scenes which werenāt really elaborated on in the manga, and faster in the sense that theyāve already made Amu chara-nari twice thus far, when she shouldnāt have been able to do so till the end of volume 1. Iām still not complaining though, since seeing this transformation at the start of the series keeps it more exciting and interesting~ Though⦠it takes away much of the ārealisticā aspect of Amuās power, as ironic as that sounds. At this point we see her as a great mahou shoujo who didnāt undergo much adjustments when she used up her Shugo chara powers. But well, so long as they can keep the development of Amuās character and her power solid, then there wonāt be any problems with that. Amu is after all, still unable to wield her power out of her own will. Sheās still as stubborn as ever. Filling in more Ikuto x Amu scenes will always be a nice welcome though :p
Have to admire Amu for the strength that she showed in this episode. Not only did she smack some sense into Suzuki, but she actually resisted Tadaseās charms and not fall prey for his puppy-dog-eyes pleading. I think most people will agree with Kuukaiās remark about Amu being such an amusing character. Sheās not the usual annoying tsundere, youāll actually enjoy her being tsuntsun because itās just so funny LOL. How she suppresses her fangirliness, and continues to be stubborn despite being dere-dere deep inside :p Even little Miki found that amusing.
As Iāve also mentioned before, all of Amuās Shugo Charas, or almost all Shugo Charas for that matter, are really adorable. Now we have Miki join Amu, whoās somewhat the opposite of Ran in terms of personality, since sheās the silent meanie type :p Ran represents Amuās honest and loving self, aka deredere, while Miki is the cool counterpart. Itās actually still not known if Miki is a he or a she, but wikipedia mentions about leaning to her being female because of admiration or crush towards Kiseki and Yoru (which weāll be seeing much later). Weāve only seen a glimpse of Kiseki in this episode, but I think itās enough to see the royalty prince aura he has. Heās the complete opposite of Tadase, the obnoxious prince type. But still, cute
Nadeshiko, oddly reminds me of Yunoki from Kin-iro no Corda. Sheās like his female counterpart, with a less darker aura at that. More than Tadase, I think Amuās weakness (in terms of resisting the urge to join the Guardians) will be Nadeshiko, who certainly has some crafty little tricks up her sleeves to get Amu into joining them.
I found it nifty that theyād be featuring Suzuki in this episode, since they sort of connected some stuff in the first eppie, with Suzuki as Amuās fan and all. Have you guys noticed Suzukiās emoticon-ness? Much of the expressions and āmovesā he shown from the first episode is like reminiscent of some onion head emoticons I have grown to love, like this and this :p
Iām just a bit sad that we didnāt see much of Ikuto in this episode⦠though at least we see him softening up as he reminisces how Amu got the humpty lock from him. And, weāll be seeing sparks fly between him and Amu in the next episode!! More Amu x Ikuto moments, finally! :3
This is quite a late reaction, but⦠I love the seiyuus in this show!
Itās only now that Iāve realized that Ikutoās seiyuu is the Yuichi Nakamura, the voice behind hawt Abe from Oofuri as well. And then we have Yoru (Ikutoās Shugo Chara), whose seiyuu is no other than Miyuki Sawashiro, who is behind the voice of some prominent roles in this seasonās animes as well, including Mayuki of Suteki Tantei Labyrinth. The Shugo charas are now cuter and more dangerous than ever, with these voices which will make you grow weak >__<
And now for some cheesy stuff⦠I intentionally placed this near the end of my thoughts because you guys might run away or something
I canāt help but compare the āegg of our heartsā concept they have in this series with peopleās creativity, passion, and desire for knowledge⦠especially with regards to imagining things beyond the normal frame of mind. We usually think of things unimaginable way back our childhood days. Thinking about being capable of flying, having superpowers or what. But as we grow older, we learn about the truths in life, and things we cannot do in the realistic world. So, we sort of confine ourselves to the boundaries of ārealityā. Iām not sure if Peach Pit intends to awaken the inner child in us or something, but I believe itās one of the little tidbits we can get from this show. Enjoying Shugo Chara by itself is already a sign of this, I believe. Awakening our minds to endless possibilities in our life, and such⦠:3
There’s still much stuff to be revealed in this series… like the mystery of the torn pages of the egg book, aside from Ikuto’s character and the villains of the show. I am so looking forward to the coming episodes!
Before I finally end this, Iād like to give people a friendly warning on this show. Ladies and gentlemen, there is a TRAP in Shugo Chara, lurking in the midst of the characters. Itās still quite early to reveal who this trap is, but just so you wonāt be completely shocked later on

I love this show…i cant wait for the next episode specially because ikuto will appear lol
@melody: my sentiments as well!
Oh my gawd. Not a trap…….I read this super long review to get that!?
…Amu is a really awesome character and it’s hard not to love her. Her “ii-jan” is so great! Also, Peach Pit works always have deeper meanings under the surface. They’re such an underrated group. lol Suzuki? …what a fanboy. I can’t wait for more COOL AND SPICY. Will Amu ever actually get close to joining the guardian’s little group? ^.
I still cant believe she is the trap. (S)he was so cute too ; ;.
@Totali: aww… sorry for the long review >x< I’m too babbly lol.
I was really amused by the tactics Nadeshiko resorted to get Amu into joining the group… really sly and clever
@Endz: indeed… though I think I wasn’t scarred by it. I was amused! haha. It must be because I’m a fangirl… so having more guys in the scene makes it interesting for me, even though it’s a trap. lol.
we got tricked! LOL! but seriously i sort of agree with @usagijen but my view differs a little;p
when i first saw shugo chara, my first thought was this is another kiddie show. but somehow, it caught my attention esp the way that amu wanted to show who she really is but lacks the courage to. i’m sure we’ve been in her situation before or probably still feel that way from time to time. i still do sometimes.
but the more impt. point is that we should all at least try to achieve what we want to be. but sometimes we can’t because fear holds us back just like how amu feels. for me, i guess peach-pitt has successfully portrayed how we should never lose sight of our dreams and remain a kid at heart^_^
ahh… i think i got carried away… Gomen^^;
whoops almost forgot! i’m not spamming or anything… it’s just that i forgot to mention how much i was looking forward to ikuto and amu in the next ep!XDDDD
somebody please take a screenshot of that scene without the border^__________^ when the ep comes out… hehe *feeling very giddy*
@beingmiyuki: I usually get carried away by animes I watch… hence the looong cheesy thoughts lol. so don’t worry about that, it’s always great to see more insights
and, I certainly will take that screenie! that’s something that shouldn’t be missed :p
I also got confused on Miki’s gender, but it seems she is a girl after all. She is so cool and composed that I really thought she is a he. But come to think of it…wouldn’t it be a bit peculiar if Amu has a guy “would-be” self? hmmm
While reading the manga, when I saw Amu’s costume when she transforms with Miki, I suddenly was reminded of Sakura’s (of Card Captor Sakura) costume. I also got addicted to that series.
Nyway, Can’t wait to see more episodes!
@mimi: I first thought Miki is a he, hehehe. It was not until I read wikipedia that I found that I was mistaken. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Miki being a guy though, since the Shugo Chara would be representative of the personality and/or abilities a person longs to have, so no gender issues at that
This show also reminds me of CCS, in more ways than one hehe. But this one got smut! And I love it more for it
I DEMAND MORE IKUTO SCREENTIME!! *shakesfist* I keep squealing everytime I see him
Gawd, I’m such a fangirl x3
I deman more Ikuto x Amu scenes too damnit! D8
Does amu and ikuto ever get together?!?!? I really want to know the waiting is to much!!
Im suffering!! *cries*
