Deep Frying Shugo Chara 03 - The Egg of MY Heart

I seemed to have been carried away much worse with my deep thoughts on Shugo Chara after I watched episode 3. Insights suddenly came to me as I reflect on Amu’s situation and how I’ve sort of experienced the same thing before. I believe most of us have had these kinds of episodes as well, at some point in our lives. With that, I dedicate this Deep Frying Post for uhm… the Egg of My Heart. gawd I can’t believe I said that *blushes like a tomato* >_<

Contained herein are deep thoughts of this little bunny, which I hope will not fry the brains of most people and find it meaningful, one way or another. Yes, I have a little bunny brain, but there’s much depth there. Read on if you want, it’s all up to you :) Yoshi~!

On The Cool and Spicy Amu

Amu’s cool exterior became a byproduct of her difficulties to interact with people, coupled with her desire to fit in. It just so happens that most people in school focused on her stereotype characteristics (as a cool and spicy character), failing to see the real Amu who masquerades behind this mask. The Shugo Charas, in this sense, represents this depth in her personality and her desire to change.

The very people who were able to see the depth in her personality are no other than the Guardians who could be said to be in the same situation as she is. Not only were they able to notice her eggs, they also took that extra step to get to know her better. That’s how I see all this apart from these special eggs and chara powers. Eventually, Amu found herself in the company of her newfound friends, who knows just about everything about her (well, partly due to their invasion of privacy with the student records). The thing is, they wholeheartedly accepted who she is, and thus there was no longer a need for Amu to make a pretense of her cool self when around them.

On Acceptance and Friendship

As much as having fans prove to be an ego-booster, I personally think that having a group of friends who see the real you apart from your idol qualities is all the more fulfilling. In the process of looking up to someone and regarding him/her as your “idol”, or perhaps labeling people like the whiz kid in class, you are in the process shunning them. As you regard yourself as a person who can’t match up to their level, you are in essence, conveying the message that they are “not normal” (either in a positive or negative way, I think it has more or less the same effect, depending on the reception of the person as well). This somewhat inhibits the growth of the person in a holistic sense, since you can’t see them as anything but that “stereotype”. More often that not, this hinders you from perceiving their real desire, such as to have true friends and be accepted for the person that he/she really is, just like Amu. Ok, I think my emoness should end here now ^^:;;.

Basically, what Amu was able to realize at this point, is her true identity, apart from what most people say about her. The birth of her Shugo Charas is also a sign of her acknowledgment of the possibility to change and be the person she longs to be. But since the way her wish was granted was somewhat over-the-top, doubts filled her mind. With her desire materialized as eggs, they serve as a daily reminder for her not to succumb in pessimism and accept the fact that she has this potential. More importantly, I think what Amu learned in episode three is how she doesn’t need to try hard and please all people for her to gain friends. As we’ve also seen, she was able to gain friends and *ahem* a catboy, simply by being true to her tsundere self.

  1. Basically Amu is such a poser that she has distanced herself from what she really wants to be! Mmm, well I guess that’s obvious. That’s why she has 3 eggs compared to everyone else’s one. :S

Speaking of tsunderes….I think usa is tsuntsun about writing SG3 posts.

  2. @Totali: I’ve been thinking what the multiple eggs represent actually… does that mean you’re more confused than anyone else, because you don’t know exactly what you want to be? Or it’s admirable in the sense that it symbolizes how many ambitions you have…

I think I only became tsuntsun here :p

@Tiamat’s Disciple: aww… that’s sad. it’s probably too pink or shoujo-ey for your taste? It’s really a fun anime though :)

  3. I think Amu’s three eggs to everyone elses one is a representation of the potential she has. For a long time it seems she has denied the possiblity that she has talent. Due to this perhaps, she has three to everyone’s one. We see in episode 2 that she believes she is bad at the bar in gym class, this is coming from a habit of downing herself.

Or I could just be completely wrong and she was just so screwed up that someone had the pity to give her three eggs.

But possessing three eggs did come with some perks, such as hottie cat boy!

  4. @EmyBlossom: I think your explanation is the most plausible reason behind the multiple-eggs syndrome. She is the heroine of this series after all XD

I think what earned her the hottie Ikuto is not only her three eggs, but her tsundere-ness which makes him all the more love to tease her :p

  5. i agree with @EmyBlossom. i think it’s possible for a person to want more than one thing like the personalities that amu likes. also i think it’s possible for her to be all 3 and not just one specific one in the end. it could be these personalities were dormant within her all along and only had the chance to come when the eggs showed up^_^

about ikuto, the 3 eggs may have attracted him to amu first but i also think that it’s her vulnerability that draws him in. they also share the mutual desire for something - amu to be able to be who she is and ikuto a secret wish that we don’t know yet. the fact that the attraction is forbidden adds more tension between the two…
