Shugo Chara - 03 Catboy Ikuto Makes This Show HAWT
Finally… more Ikuto x Amu goodness in this eppie, which most manga fans have all been waiting for! Fanservice and smut FTW! >3 Quite an interesting revelation is shown too (but no, trap-kun is yet to be revealed), as Hotori breaks the stereotype set on him (somewhat), thanks to his Shugo Chara Kiseki who spices up much of his character. Though, I’d have to agree with Hinano that it made him less likeable, since he turned into a yandere of some sort. I’ll certainly be rooting for Ikuto up until the end :3
Nadeshiko shows how clever and sly she can be in this episode, as she almost gets Amu into joining the Guardians by luring her with Prince Hotori’s private shots. Good thing Miki and Ran are there to help her resist this. Though I think if those shots have been any more *ahem* private, Amu wouldn’t have been able to resist it even with her Shugo Charas’ help 
Since this “Operation Lure Amu” didn’t quite work out as expected, Nadeshiko becomes the love mediator for Amu x Hotori instead. Nuooo~! She needs to be with Ikuto! She invites Amu out for a baking session to make some fruit tart for Hotori, the prince’s favorite according to Nadeshiko, as they are going to pay him a visit the next day. Amu finally gives in, happy with the thought that she’ll be able to give a present filled with love to her dear prince. Gotta love the side comments of Miki, I like her timidness and sarcasm X3
uhm… are those coins in the tart she’s baking? o__O
So the baking session commences and Amu bakes some tart with Nadeshiko’s help, who also warns her not to call Hotori “ouji (prince)”. Nadeshiko runs out for a bit to get the fruits for the filling, leading to fans getting their fill of Ikuto x Amu moments instead :p

Ladies and gentlemen, this scene not only sends sparks of romance but defies the law of gravity as well, in the entire sense of the word. As Ikuto lands on top of Amu when it should’ve been the other way around. 
Unless of course, you have a better explanation for this? I’ll still regard it as defying the laws of gravity though
Inner Amu: is he gonna… lick ME now? o__o
Inner Amu: oh noes~ *blush* *redirects topic to the embryo*
Unfortunately, Nadeshiko had to ruin this intimate moment as she transforms into some vicious warfreak and attacks Ikuto with what seems to be Ren Tao’s spear. Another Shaman King reference, aside from the spirit possession?
And Amu’s reaction to the interruption?
Inner Amu: NuoOoo! Nadeshiko, how could you!!

Ok.. parody ends here LOL.
The battle somewhat goes out of hand as Amu’s tart and egg falls *gasp* But then the egg then tells Amu not to fret desu~ because she’s alive and hatched! What comes out is Su who seems to be Suisei Seki’s counterpart in Shugo Chara. Perhaps that’s why she’s “Su”? Even their green dress is similar.
This looks… so wrong. o___O
After a little chip, syrup, whip chant, Su causes some major cream flood, making Amu fall into this mess of icky liquid which other people might mistake to be *ahem* something else. In the end, Su was unable to bring back the broken tart to its original form, and makes Amu bake cookies instead. Honestly, if Su was able to make a flood out of a cream, I’m sure she could’ve brought the tart back. There’s more than enough ingredients to be able to make the tart crust o__O Oh well, let’s not get too critical about that.
Amu gets to hand her present to Hotori after some mishaps thanks to her mischievous Shugo Charas, where she got close to giving Hotori her love letter which reads, “…think of it as me and EAT-IT-UP~ <3" (yet another innuendo). The rest of the events focus on Hotori and his Shugo Chara Kiseki, as we see how he turns into a freak with the mention of "ouji" (prince). That magic keyword apparently triggers his Kiseki-ness, the bostad "king" who plans to dominate the world. yeah right.
Kiseki’s personality is the complete opposite of Hotori as he was born out of his wish to break away from his shell of shyness and passiveness. The rest of the Guardians have this character complexity as well, making Amu realize that she belongs with their group, as they share the same sentiments. Aww… friendship <3 As for joining the Guardian Society, it seems that Amu’s consent wasn’t necessary after all, as Hotori formally announces to the entire school that she is the 5th Guardian, the Joker.
Thoughts (On Friendship)
Apart from the little innuendos and sweet scenes we see in this episode, I believe it brings with us a deeper message about acceptance and friendship. In the first two episodes, we were shown about how Amu gradually came into terms with her ideal character(s), made colorful and spicy with her Shugo Charas. How she was able to see the greater potential she has, and gain the confidence to believe in that potential. Personality-wise or skills-wise. The rest of the guardians are also in a similar situation, thought in Nadeshiko and Hotori’s case, their wannabe selves are quite exaggerated ^^;;; This similarity that they have, the Shugo Charas can then be considered as the bond which ties the Guardians, including Amu. With this, she has found a group of friends who not only know who she really is, but accepts her for it.

Extra Thoughts
On Suzuki
I’m still amused by the fanboy Suzuki until now, seeing him all the more charmed by Amu’s spice power after the last incident. I think we’ll be making a post dedicated to him next time LOL.
On Ikuto
Fangirl stuff aside, I’m really curious about Ikuto and what desire his Shugo Chara Yoru represents. It might have something to do with his violin-playing, and his past. The manga keeps this past much of a mystery until now, and just reveals the little touch of kindness lurking within Ikuto, as he slowly opens up to Amu. And, this is quite a late note, but I love the violin BGM during the emo Ikuto scenes. I actually thought Ikuto was the one playing it… or perhaps they’ll show us him playing it, in the later eps.
On The Degrade in the Animation Quality
Did you guys notice some inconsistencies in the animation quality in this episode? One clear evidence is that pic of Ikuto, with a… misplaced nose.
The Shugo Chara’s Shelter
This might seem out of place, because it should’ve been posted together with the previous episode.
I wonder if you noticed that our little Shugo Charas sleep in their own egg shell? I think it’s more noticeable in the manga, where we see them not only use this shell for sleeping but also for protecting themselves from Amu’s rage attack I don’t know… I found it quite nifty for some reason :3

Thanks for posting that manga comparison pic. I went to buy it yesterday but they only had volume 4 T_T I’m gonna try another bookstore today and hopefully they will have 1-3 lol. Don’t wanna red it out of order >:B

@Hinano: it’s tempting to read the further volumes, but it really is not advisable coz you’re gonna miss out a lot (not unless you just want to see the smutty and romantic moments or what hehe).
I remember the first chapter of the manga I read was chapter 8 and I wasn’t all too enthralled by it… and that’s because that chapter NEVER had a glimpse of the HAWTness known as IKUTO.

Yeah they animated the ear nibbling scene yuppie …I love ikuto he’s so hot …but i was wondering is he really the blonde’s girl brother? cause if he is why the hell is she always trying to satisfy him (if u know what i mean..like in the manga)? well ne who thanks for this blog!!!

Su is definitely Suisei Seki’s counterpart, but the the authors of Shugo Chara are the same authors of Rozen Maiden, so they can get away with it.
Lousy mangakas. You know when one is running out of ideas when they have to bring back the annoying characters…
@Rin-chan: I don’t think it’s a lack of creativity… I actually find it nifty that they’ll be referring to Suisei Seki with Suu
she’s a cute character on her own anyway. I don’t find her annoying…

@miyu: Shugo Chara airs Saturday mornings in Japan… 9:30am I believe. The raws usually come out a few hours after that

thanks for capturing the shot of amu and ikutoXDDD i think the manga there was more tension and their faces are closer. but the anime isn’t so bad^_^ *sigh* i love how ikuto looks kinda shocked when they sorta hugged, and i definitely think that they’re attracted to each other but just in denial.
now i’m so looking forward to the ear-nibbling scene! gawd i hope this doesn’t make me sound like a perv:p
oh i forgot to mention, utau has a brother complex, so she’s obsessed with ikuto though i don’t think it leans towrd incest or anything:p
btw, am i the only one who thinks that prince hotori looks like kazune of kami-chama? they look kinda similar, childish whereas ikuto is HOT! ^_^

I really like the manga version of that scene, so I decided to show that :3 as you’ve also said, you can really feel the tension and the *love vibes/sparks* there. they’re so close to kissing! >x< and don't worry about looking forward to the ear nibbling. it may a be quite naughty, but then you're not alone. most, if not all, fangirls are looking forward to that too :p
actually, Hotori does look like Kazune. with the prince-like character as well. But Ikuto is loads better than them of course >3

@usagijen: i absolutely agree with u that ikuto is loads better than hotori!^_^ i’ve reread the manga to see how much they’ve changed things and it’s the same weird gravity law that made ikuto fall on top of amu instead of the other way around if the normal gravity law applied…
my theory on the weird twist of gravity is that ikuto, being the cat that he is, turned or tried to regain his balance but the shock at having amu close to him makes him lose it again and falls on her instead. m i making any sense here?^^; anyways we probably shouldn’t rationalize too much and enjoy the moment as it comes^__^

ok im pissed episode 18 should of been a amuto date but amu’s going on a date with tadase URG! and they make ikuto look like the bad one AGAIN i hate the anime,why is the manga always better then the show that makes me mad. EVERYBODY wants to see ikuto and amu to go to together not tadase and amu!!!
