KimiKiss pure rouge Episode 4 – step in
Finally! An Asuka-centric episode! It was great that this episode allowed us to take a closer look at this soccer zealot girl, whose passion for the sport is really admirable. Similar to Kai, sheâs already set on her dreams, to become a professional soccer player. It was evident in this episode that sheâll most likely influence Kazuki in becoming passionate about something and make him snap out of his indecisiveness to go all-out in confronting Eriko again. Weâll actually see Kazuki make this decision in the next episode, based on the preview.

Kiss before the kick. Eww o_O?
I like the liberties the anime took in terms of shaping up Asukaâs character, as I felt it to have a stronger impact compared to the manga (and perhaps the game as well). Sheâs got more balls than any of the guys so far! She just became more boyish and less sweet, but thatâs fine with me. I think weâll see Asukaâs sweet side once we see some romantic developments. They also gave a realistic justification as to how Asuka can probably choose Kazuki to be her practice partner among all people, which in turn allows us to see that Kazuki does have some talent! He just doesnât have enough drive to do much about anything with his life. I think that encounter with Eriko is the first thing that made him feel the drive to do something.

This only means one thing. Iâve got the BALL(s) and you donât.
I can truly feel with Asuka when she lectured Kazuki on being passionate about something, considering that he actually has the opportunity which she is deprived of. This reminded me of some scene from the Dear Boys anime, with the menâs basketball team manager Satomi telling the very same thing to one of the basketball players who is not taking the game seriously, considering that he has all the leisure to play basketball while she doesnât (she sustained a leg injury which crushed her basketball dreams). This doesnât mean Iâm pimping Dear Boys, ok? I didnât quite like that anime actually⊠but that scene seemed to have left quite an impression on me.
Itâs still not certain what will come of this love triangle between Kazuki, Asuka and Eriko, but despite whatever outcome this may have, I believe each character will certainly learn something valuable from their experiences, especially Eriko. I still remain an Asuka x Kazuki shipper, and I believe that allowing Asukaâs relationship with Kazuki to develop in the later episodes will spice up the love triangle relationship angle, as opposed to Yuumi and Kouichi who really has it easy, with the lack of rivalry lol.
At first I was thinking Kazuki will be the MAN to make Eriko appreciate the beauty of life, but it seems that Mao will be taking part in that role as well. Go Mao!
That encounter with Mao certainly came as a surprise for Eriko, because I donât think she has ever met anyone in her lifetime who doesnât know her as the Genius Futami. I believe that deep in Erikoâs heart is a longing for people to treat her without bias for or against her genius reputation, which is certainly the case with Mao. Mitsuki is also one of the few people in school who genuinely wants to befriend her, seeing her kind gesture of wanting to accompany her in the nurseâs office.
We still donât know what kind of life Eriko had as she grew up, but perhaps some distasteful events relating to her being genius is what contributed to her rebellious and cold attitude. Instead of interacting with people and allow them to get to know her better, she distanced herself farther away from people, resulting to her loner genius lifestyle. The world doesnât revolve around intellect alone is something Eriko might have realized (and want to realize), but sheâs still trapped in the confinement of intellect as there are still so many things sheâs so ignorant about. Common sense and human feelings, for example.
As Mao has mentioned in the episode, it has been a month since the karaoke event, and thanks to Kouichiâs lack of knowledge regarding how to make romantic relationships progress and work out smoothly, their relationship hasnât changed quite a bit. Kouchi asked Yuumi if he can talk to her in the last episode, and yeah, they just⊠talk ^^;;; I found it a bit ironical that someone like Kouichi who dreams of becoming a novelist lack some kind of romanticism or romantic flare which I believe most writers have. Passion is what allows them to write great stories after all. Another inconsistency regarding Kouichiâs dream is the fact that he doesnât seem to be much of a book-lover. If he loves reading books, he wouldâve been a frequent library visitor, which in turn wouldâve allowed him to talk to Yuumi loooong before. She is the librarian after all.

Yuumi’s disillusionment o__o
In terms of Kouichiâs lack of passion, I guess we can say that his shyness got the better of him in his dealings with Yuumi. Though I still think that he is most certainly not ignorant about mushy love stuff, if he himself has read romantic stories. Well, Iâm hoping weâll get to see this passion Kouichi has for writing as the series goes on (despite the inconsistencies), with Yuumi serving as his inspiration
Iâve mentioned in my previous episode post that I never saw Yuumi and Kouichi discussing anything related to their dreams in the novel, which makes me all the more glad that they are now allowing Yuumi to take part in the realization of Kouichiâs dream of becoming a novelist.
I like how things are going smooth for Kai and Mao at this point (thanks to Kai’s suave moves :p), though I was thinking that Mao shouldâve showed her playful side more and teased Kai before giving in to the âdateâ invitation. I miss seeing Maoâs SD faces, and the overall genkiness she had way back episode 1. I donât know if itâs just the lack of sleep or her anemia, but I just felt she lost some of that energy. Then again perhaps those encounters with Kai really made her melt and contributed to her overall âweakeningâ lol.

What’s in a letter…?
I was thinking that one of the triggering factors to Kaiâs invitation is witnessing Mao bombarded with love letters which sheâs not at all happy with. If people will see that Mao already likes someone else, then all the guys will probably stop giving her those letters and give her flame and hate letters like the ones in 2ch?. The more likely reason behind this sudden date however, is that it probably has something to do with Kaiâs upcoming music competition. Seleria thought about this, and I certainly agree. Mao made Kai promise to invite her in his performance after all. Kai is naturally sweet, from what he shown in this episode especially. I hope the next episode will let us see more depth in his mysterious character~

For the love of yuri. FAITO!
Last but not the least⊠a few words for Nana and Narumi, and also for Hiiragi. Seeing the yuri-ish frog-loving girls establish a fanclub for Asuka, just made the yuri vibes of the show stronger. Hiiragi on the other hand, gives this show some BL signals, with the holding hands scene with Kouichi (blame our hamster chef for thinking of these naughty things) :p
And… the animation quality went down in this episode o__o
The Hamster Corner
Blame the naughty brilliant mind of our hamster chef Seleria for these parodies LOL
Proof of the Blooming BL-ness

Show me the POWAH of your love, Kouichi!

We all know I AM THE MAN in this relationship. Love you doll face.
With the series slated to run for 25 episodes, anything is possible… even BL :p
A Hamster’s Kai x Mao fanfic
More random silliness lol.
Kai: “can you be my girlfriend…?”
Mao: “uhh… actually kai…”
Kai: “is that a yes?”
Mao: “…. yes”
Kai: “c’mon girlfriend”
Kai: “lets go shopping!!”
Shopping Date comes…
Kai: “do you think this lingerie makes my butt look fat?”
Mao: “….”
Kai: “coz you know im all saxy after all”
Kai: “image is everything”
Mao: “….”
The next day, Mao goes back to france… THE END.

I’m afraid that with Eriko dominating every single popularity contest with ease, the anime writers will deal you a disappointing finish then, usagijen. I’d be most surprised if Eriko wasn’t going to “win”.
Having said that, I like Asuka. I really do. And I’m really looking forward to the impending Fire-and-Ice catfights between her and Eriko. But in the end, the “Asuka” template is relatively well-known to me already. Eriko is a much more rare type, and I believe it will be very interesting to find out what’s making her tick.
In any case, please keep up your great posts! ^_^
The kissing the soccer ball moment may have been better if you could forget that the ball has been rolling around field for a while and who knows the last time that thing was cleaned.
But really, I like Asuka’s character so far so more of that won’t hurt. May be tough for her considering those popularity polls and whatever impact they might hold. But hope things still work out for your view usagijen. Impossible to say how it’ll finish with so many episodes still left to unravel.
Poor Mao going back to France :(. Curse you sax man. But anyways things going smoothly there as well. Mao is going to be busy helping out those guys (since I’m sure they didn’t just get her to know Eriko and meet Asuka for no reason) and her own relationships.
@Mentar: yeah, I think the anime is also shouting with much Eriko x Kazuki <3 lol. I believe Eriko is the character who’ll undergo the most development in this series, so I won’t really complain if she ends up with Kazuki.
All I’m hoping for is that people will also get to see more of Asuka. I’m just glad that people already like her from this episode alone
@FlareKnight: so many episodes left to say what will be the final outcome of this series. I just want to see more development, and for most (if not all) the characters to be fleshed out throughout the series.
Nice work on the post.
