KimiKiss pure rouge Episode 5 – jump up
We’ve got some pretty nice relationship developments in this episode, as well as some surprising and scary(?) discovery regarding the kind of romance stories Yuumi likes. I do hope this series is not going down the dark path and just added that for some comic relief, because if Yuumi’s preference these stories is a serious implication of her true psychological mentality… O___O
To elaborate further on that Yuumi discovery, it was revealed in this episode that she is so engrossed in tragic suicidal love stories. If the was any indication of her future behaviors if she were to experience the same tragic love, who knows what she would do if her love with Kouichi won’t turn into a happy ending >.> I know that’s thinking too much, but just the thought of a girl having this kind of preference could really be scary… especially if it will influence the person to have suicidal tendencies as well o__o The best test for this suicidal tendency experiment would be to add some spice of rivalry into the Yuumi x Kouichi relationship, have Kouichi end up with that girl, and we’ll see how Yuumi will behave ^^;;;;
At first I found Yuumi really cute, but now I found her a bit scary >.> Though, perhaps the one-sided love she thought, or the overall lack of romance in her life is what made her interested in these tragic stories. I know of some friends who like these kinds of stories as well, so who am I to judge the normalcy of Yuumi. Well, Kouichi did tell her that a blissful romance story is better than the tragedies she like, so it just means that things are looking up for the romance which she perhaps thought will not have the happy ending route
Yuumi and Kouichi seem to be getting used to each other’s company, which is quite a progress from their previous moments filled with nothing but awkward silence (or stuttering :p).

Will music (or the lack of it) ruin my romance with Kai?!
Kai and Mao heads to their date, but for some reason it became filled with awkward moments, partly due to Mao’s lack of musical understanding. I didn’t feel much of the chemistry between them in this episode, and I think they both noticed that too. One evidence of this is Kai’s discontentment when Mao praised his saxy playing, which seemed like he was looking for something else. Someone who could see something deeper in this music of his. Kai really reminded me of Len Tsukimori in this episode, who is perhaps looking for a Hino Kahoko in his life, who’ll get to understand his music and his passion for this. Mao just seems to be really trying hard to fit in to this music stuff, just to get along with Kai. And I don’t quite see the real her showing from all these interactions.

I sense ripples in the relationship.
Music plays such a great role in Kai’s life. Or rather, it’s like music is his life. Given that, I think the music understanding will really be significant in making the Kai x Mao relationship work. And, I am not quite seeing that in this date they had. Perhaps next time we’ll see Kai telling Mao how their conversations don’t jive because of this musical language barrier. But we’ll still have to see what happens when Mao gets to hear Kai playing, and his reaction as to what Mao’s going to say about it. If these two doesn’t hit the notes right Mitsuki might just come into play. all puns intended. (Mitsuki is a pianist after all, so she might just be the girl who’ll understand Kai and his music. But it’s still too early to tell if the anime will really go into that direction)
Now their teacher on the other hand is really annoying for his close-mindedness towards the “education” he preaches about. To think that he’s telling the students about experience being the best teacher and stuff… I so don’t want to have a teacher like him. With what he said to Kai, it’s like he stepped on his pride and trampled on his dream. Kai would be better off enrolling in a music school, and join Len and the rest of the Corda gang :p

Spring Sonata starring Bae Yong Joon ^^;;;
This episode also shows us the “Haru no Sonata” movie Kazuki was all crazy about in the previous episode, which turned out to be nothing else but a parody of Winter Sonata with the undying Bae Yong Joon~ ^^;;; Kazuki once again thinks about the kiss with Eriko, the words of Asuka and some childhood memories he had about gaining the courage to jump up the swing, which finally gave him the guts to confront Eriko once again.
Kazuki made this leap (of faith?), with the faint hope that he won’t stumble down and fall after. It really took him time to make this decision because of the ever-present fear that he has of failing, similar to that time in the swing. His fear was so great that he actually forgot he made that leap before. It won’t be until next week before we’ll get to see Eriko’s reaction to Kazuki’s challenge to start out the experiment all over again. What a cliffhanger indeed. I’m just hoping it won’t turn out to a series of kiss experiments like the one in the novel.
I wonder how Asuka will react to these events concerning Kazuki and Eriko, considering how she seems to have feelings for Kazuki (though it’s still not quite confirmed). She was disappointed with what he showed in the past and I am looking forward to how Kazuki will patch things up with Asuka. I think I’d love to see a confrontation between Asuka and Eriko >3

DIE, YOU FROG!! >.>
The animation quality continues to drop, it seems… and the freaky frogs continue to plague the show >__< They are really distracting, especially in this episode. These fugly frogs certainly know how to ruin the mood of the show T__T That, and Nana and Narumi’s obsession for these frogs is equally disturbing.

Well *lol*
I can imagine that Eriko WILL resume the experiment, and she will spank him once more by telling him AGAIN that it wasn’t pleasant at all
Actually, I think there might have been a hint there that Mao will come to like Kai’s music, since she did say something about liking a CD that turned out to have one of his favorite sax players on it. But there was certainly plenty of awkwardness there, as would be natural on a first date, especially one with a laconic jazz-otaku like Kai.
By the way, unlike just about everyone else, I’m enjoying the girls with their froggies, up to a point. I don’t see it as yuri, but as an adult-emulating game. Whereas some other bits of comedy have seemed childish and interruptive to me.
i am looking at this episode, and i watched one episode for example, but didn’t gave me what i needed… i dont like talking and talking and talking, and doing nothing… :/
@Mentar: LOL. I think I’m gonna give both Kazuki and Eriko some bitchslapping when that happens :p
@hashihime: I also think that gesture of Mao of asking Kai to let her hear his sax playing is her way of saying “[Unlike that bastard teacher] I like your music and your passion for it”
I’m just looking forward for whatever happens, without disregarding possible twists that might happen :3
and you are like the first person I know who appreciated the frogs in the show
@kazumaXX: this might really seem a boring episode, but I believe it’s one of the better episodes of KimiKiss which marks quite some developments in the relationships between the characters.
Then again it might depend on one’s tolerance for these no-action and purely talk episodes… :3
Well not too bad an episode. Certainly those frogs are really weird and should vanish into a black hole. Of course then we’d have the girls mourning the deaths and starting some weird search party to find them.
I guess caling for a continuation of the experiment is the only way Kazuki can think of approaching Eriko. Hopefully they can grow more beyond simply that. Of course will come to whether she agrees which she probably will. Hopefully as well we can get Kazuki and Asuka to patch some things up. Though his continuing the ‘experiment’ might make that a rough area.
Mao and Kai’s date did have some awkwardness. But she is trying to get into it which takes time. While I played some music never did have a great ear for picking up how well people are playing. Hopefully Mao has the ability to pick things up and fit into it.
Was also slightly concerned by all the suicide love stories. Don’t suppose she has considered a result where people don’t end up dead heh…
@FlareKnight: I believe Kazuki will be really caught up with Eriko that he won’t be able to think of patching things up with Asuka… at least until his current issues with Eriko has been resolved.
We’ll see if things will go well for Kai and Mao in the next episode :3 I’m not sure if we’ll get to see some “history” or background as to how Yuumi came to like those stories… but that will be good to add I think.
Yeah does seem like he’ll be busy for the time being with Eriko. Wouldn’t mind him fixing it up sooner or later since leaving it alone probably won’t help. But seems likely the experiment and Eriko will take up a lot of his concentration.
Would be nice to have a bit of backstory with the suicide tales. Since without them you can only feel a bit concerned about her favorites….Maybe she had a good reason to be drawn to them. Plus I’m sure some like those tragic things, personally I’m all for living so probably wouldn’t be into those kinds of books.
Every time I scroll up the page that frog picture gives me the creeps.
@FlareKnight: I also can’t see myself being engrossed over those kind of stories… they’ll make you feel even more depressed o__O
and that frog… seems to remind me of Dr.Lizard or some other comic/cartoon villains >.>
Just a thought…
If H&C is about people coming to terms to reality (finishing college life, musing about meaning of life, meaning of love) hence the monologue depicting intraconflict..
then KimiKiss is about people indulging in naivete (i.e. school-life romance), I guess… I think there’s no use of monologue (and making an effort to make this show looks ‘deep’) because maybe what’s on the head of those two guys (Kouichi and Kazuki) are crowded with nothing but how to score with the girls.
If only there are insert songs again
Just found this blog, and wanted to say I love KimiKiss. Haven’t seen any other blogs really covering the show, so this was nice to find!
I just wanted to say that I really like the frogs. I had no idea that there were people out there that didn’t! I think they go along perfectly with the tone of the series and I see the interaction between the girls roleplaying with the frogs completely normal.
I remember girls doing the same thing with Barbies (and Ken) all the time when I was growing up, so the behavior seems perfectly fine to me!
@stampede: I still am hoping KimiKiss will delve into the deep side of things, but I’m not keeping my expectations too high so I won’t be disappointed
Insert songs would be a wonderful addition to this series! it will certainly be a nice effect to convey the mood in the scenes :3
@Karisu: I can understand girls being engrossed in Barbies… but the frogs are really disturbing. they’re ugly >__< but then again who am I to judge the preference of these girls... >.> I just find them really distracting, when they go on showing the “froggy theatre” in the midst of a serious mood…
