Took me long enough to get this one out. Been busy with work and JLPT studies, and now I came down with a slight fever which started out with a sore throat (curse that cake I ate =___=) Hopefully, this won’t happen next week or else my JLPT is doomed o__O (reminds me of what happened to Mao).

Kazuki x Asuka

Kazuki not only gets to have the balls this time, he gets it right on his face.

These two are getting along well, but we have yet to see the romantic sparks between these soccer buddies. Seeing them together in this episode gave me Ranma x Akane vibes, with Kazuki’s sarcasm and insult, and tomboyish Asuka’s tsundere-ness, and I find them real cute together. I believe what happened in the last episode made their friendship grow stronger, and a romantic relationship founded in a solid friendship will certainly go a long way. I just wonder when the tables will turn and Kazuki will finally see Asuka as a girl. We need to see more Kazuki x Asuka centric episodes next time, if only to see the developments that will happen in their relationship. I’m looking forward to the time when Asuka will ask someone to be her love coach.

Kazuki x Eriko

Kazuki is in for a haunted ride.

Kazuki is finally, slowly changing from being a wuss to a gutsy guy in dealing with Eriko, as he managed to tell her that there’s something wrong with her sense of taste (and most of her other senses for that matter). Finding out that Eriko isn’t all that perfect became quite an ego booster for Kazuki, though of course, that should’ve been obvious right from the start when he noticed her eccentricity. Kazuki realizing that Eriko’s peculiarity in her taste finds its roots in her loner life, and taking the step to make her normal in this sense, is actually admirable. This finally marks the first step in Kazuki’s quest to turn the ice queen into a human.

The mini summary of episode 8 from Newtype is already hinting that something good might just happen out of Kazuki’s ramen taste test challenge, as he plans to make Eriko closer to other people through this taste peculiarity she has.

Kouichi x Yuumi

I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid, but I think I’m seeing “signs” regarding future problems that this couple might have.

First is the troubled look on Yuumi’s face when Mao was happily chatting with Kouichi about their childhood past, which I believe made her a little insecure, as she probably realized that there’s still so much she doesn’t know about Kouichi.

Then there’s Kouichi’s surprise in seeing Mao together with Kai, and perhaps the fact that she’s hiding it from him. It affected him, and Yuumi was able to notice that as well. Kouichi changing the topic about Maoinstead of telling Yuumi about his thoughts that time remind me of how Mao keeps things from Kai as well, which might just affect the relationship sooner or later.

Another thing I noticed is the plot of the play they’re gonna have, involving some romance between childhood friends, which might just be pointing to the Kouichi x Mao direction o__O And I wonder if I’m just thinking too much, but Mao’s face glowed at the mention of “childhood friend”

“Ain’t no Telling”

I think I’m finding Mao less admirable, the more she’s being unmasked as the series goes on. After the confiding issue Kai and Mao had in the last episode, Mao just makes it worse in this episode. Mao felt happy when she found out that Hiiragi was able to find a heroine for their play, but she keeps this from Kai, instead of sharing that little happiness with him.

Kai sees no other “heroine” but Mao

Whatever reason Mao has in refusing to tell Kai about this, like “I don’t think you’ll be interested with this”, I think this just affirms the fact that she doesn’t quite reciprocate Kai’s feelings, unlike how it seemed at the start. It’s like she doesn’t really want him to become involved with her life =__=

This episode made me think that Mao’s decision to spend time with Kai was simply a foil to her cowardice, to avoid seeing Kouichi x Yuumi perhaps…

I’ve become… emo~

I feel sad for Kai, for falling in love with Mao that easily. After the “signs” Mao has been showing in the past, Kai must have thought that she reciprocates his feelings. Hence, he decided to kiss her. But then she went running away after, a reaction which obviously befuddled him. That kiss could’ve been great, if Mao reciprocates Kai’s feelings, or if we’ve seen more of the developments in their relationship first. I never expected such a melodramatic reaction from Mao… it’s more Yuumi-like o_O

At this point, I don’t see Kai x Mao working out…

Mitsuki x ?

Mitsuki was finally given a proper introduction in this episode, as she joins in the drama club! It was revealed that she has a fiancé, but all hope is not yet lost, because we might just see anime taking the route of the manga, as she gets to fall in love~

I just finished reading the end of the Mitsuki arc in the manga, and just to highlight what happens near the end…

Kouichi finds out that Mitsuki has a fiancée, after they’ve already fallen for each other (in the second to the last chapter), so they fight for their love~

thanks to my sudden urge to scanlate, I came up with these:

What happens after this, is a bit anticlimactic. Mitsuki goes to discuss things with her father, and the next thing we knew, he approves of her relationship with Kouichi without a fight~ and they live happily ever after. Mitsuki also composes a song for him, how cute~

Episode 9 - water girls

According to Newtype, there’s going to be a swimming competition event in this episode, and Asuka who’s supposedly part of this event, suddenly sustains a leg injury. Despite this, the strongheaded Asuka is still set on participating in the last leg of the relay, when she was stopped by Eriko who sees that it’s impossible for her to continue on.

Dundundun~ I wonder what will come out of this confrontation. I am hoping this will allow Eriko and Asuka to become closer together and who knows, they might just end up together rather than fight over Kazuki =P

Episode 10 - mistone

Unfortunately, there was no summary provided in Newtype. All we get is this title, which might just have something to do with Kai and Mao’s relationship, if it’s meant to be interpreted as mis-tone, seeing how both of them aren’t really playing the notes right as of late.
