KimiKiss pure rouge – 08 “Where is the Love?”

KimiKiss pure rouge Episode 8 – close to you

This has got to be my favorite episode so far. My doubts and confusion with the previous episodes, particularly regarding Mao and Kai, were more or less cleared up (or am I merely putting on that pretense?). There are no romantic developments between Asuka and Kazuki yet, and I wonder if the pairing will become Asuka x Eriko instead of Eriko x Kazuki =P

(This post has been a little delayed because I am still, a little sick. I’m not going to the office tomorrow just so I can… sleep~ LOL)

Eriko x Kazuki x Asuka

“An Idle Mind Is The Devil’s Playground”

Honestly, Eriko and Kazuki’s ā€œdateā€ would not have turned out an enjoyable watch if not for Asuka, who was able to ease the tension when she came into the scene (and brawled with Kazuki. lol). Asuka was the one who made Eriko smile that time, and I believe that Eriko’s coldness is thawed in her warm personality. Up until now, I still think Asuka will have a greater impact in Eriko’s life far more than Kazuki, with a friendship that will allow the ice princess to soften up even more. If not for Asuka, we might have seen more of Kazuki feeling up Eriko instead o__O

Kazuki and Asuka’s relationship seems platonic, as can be seen in how they behaved in the ramen store, and I’m not so sure if Eriko will be the catalyst to that change. The jealousy vibes when Asuka saw Kazuki and Eriko was nil, so I’m thinking some other event might trigger that romantic development—an Asuka x Kazuki moment, which will allow her to see Kazuki in another light, perhaps?

Kai x Mao

aww… poor Mao. *argh no! I should not be sympathizing with her! :[*

Contrary to what I thought in the previous episodes, Mao isn’t really filled with thoughts of Kouichi, but was simply adapting to the little changes happening in her life (or so I hope). Kouichi isn’t spending time with her like he used to because he’s busy with his girlfriend, so Mao decides to spend time with Kai instead, though not necessarily for romantic reasons. Her melodramatic reaction to Kai’s kiss was because of her surprise, more than anything else, as she didn’t see him in THAT sense yet (yes I find it perplexing that Mao simply looked at Kai as a ā€œplatonic friendā€, but oh well)..

As you can see, I’m desperately trying to understand—or pretending to understand— Mao here. Inconsistencies arise as we look at her actions in the past, particularly her obvious attraction to Kai in the first few episodes. When Mao agreed to go on a date with him that one time, didn’t that suggest enough that she looks at him beyond the level of friendship, or was at least open to that possibility? Playing hard to get just doesn’t suit her, not with all the inconsistencies surrounding her actions.

Kai is smooth~ as usual ;)

Despite all that, this episode made me like the Kai and Mao pairing again. I giggled at that bike scene where Kai ā€œsavesā€ Mao and oh-accidentally slips his hand with hers, no matter how clichĆ© and unrealistic that is =P

I’m going to forgive Mao for keeping things from Kai in the previous episodes, since she has become really open to him, now that they know what the real score between them is. Again, I’d like to think that Mao’s lack of readiness to go into a romantic relationship with Kai is because of adjustments she has to face (and she’s facing), not necessarily because she holds feelings for Kouichi. I know Mao and Kouichi’s look at the end of the episode suggest otherwise, but I’m hoping that it’s all a matter of surprise and embarrassment.

Now for Kai… He’s got to be the most admirable among the guys in this show. Ever since before, we’ve already seen that he knows what he wants, in terms of his goals and romance. He just didn’t know how to interact well with other people because he’s more of a loner, as what we’ve seen. In this episode, Kai swallowed his pride and apologized for what he did to Mao last time, without justifying his actions. He outright confessed about his feelings, and wholeheartedly accepted Mao’s lack of readiness to go steady with him. I just hope we’ll see more of his thoughts, like Kazuki’s “inner thoughts and conflicts monologue”. That’ll allow us to see more of the mysterious Kai :)

Kouichi x Yuumi

I don’t see anything deeper than what is shown here =[

They’re slowly making progress, as they’re going on a date now~ But still, I don’t think I’m seeing the depth in the relationship here… The background story between these lovebirds is yet to be seen, and at this point they are just another typical couple comprising of shy stock characters. Please give this couple more spice~! We need more bike accidents! \o/ The scene in the next episode’s preview looks like Yuumi is kissing Kouichi… which I hope will not be shallow >.>’’’

Mitsuki

Wrong advisers, IMO.

We learn something interesting about Mitsuki in this episode, her curiosity about falling in love, which might just happen to her sooner or later, especially if they’re going to show the accidental kiss scene. Mitsuki however should consult other people if she wants to know about true love, not from Kouichi and Yuumi, whose response to her question was obviously… from a puppy love POV, which might just be infatuation in the guise of ā€œloveā€ o__O

ā€œSignsā€ that you’re falling in love according to Kouichi and Yuumi:

Kouichi: you feel happy just by seeing that other person happy (typical answer. Wouldn’t it be better if he said, ā€œyou’d want to make the person happy, at all costs, instead of just… looking at that person?ā€, clichĆ© as that might be)

Yuumi: before you know it, your mind is filled with thoughts of him, and you can’t get him off your head (you can feel this way with just about any people you feel strongly about, may it be love or hate. And it’s dangerous if you think of nothing else but the guy. You have a life, girl! You don’t need a man to complete you! *FYI, this is not a bitter sentiment*)

I think this just proves the lack of depth in Kouichi and Yuumi’s relationship at this point, as I have also complained about earlier.

Nana

Don’t steal my oniichan~!

Nana was pretty gutsy in this episode, confronting Eriko who she thinks is stealing her brother away from her! She might have ruined the friendly mood in the restaurant, but I believe Eriko’s reaction served as a wake-up call to Kazuki and also the other ones in their group, making them see just how lonely of a genius she is.

  1. Yuumi is still painfully boring

the only way they can make her interesting is

    a) turn her into a yandere. (it’s always her type)
    b) get her into a car accident

I guarantee you either of these will bring the much needed excitement to the still water pair

  2. I like Nana. She’s a great sister I would like to have, without the ill intentions of siscon of course.

  3. Yuumi isn’t boring. Remember her extreme taste in fiction? There’s more there than they have revealed yet, I think (and hope). Anyway, there are those (me) who like shy people.

  5. @T_I: lol… how exciting. Who knows, she might just be a yandere, based on her preference for tragic romance stories ;)

@tj: and here I thought most guys see Nana as an annoying sister o__O

@hashihime: I’m looking forward to the time they’ll reveal the “other sides” of Yuumi.

@vale: I was hoping their relationship will have more depth, before they kiss… but with episode 9… I don’t know =__=

  6. Feel bad for not getting my comment in sooner. Probably because things have been so busy. The reason I’m doing it now has nothing to do with procrastination regarding another assignment…nope not at all.

Anyways agree that without Asuka that Kazuki and Eriko moment might of been pretty slow. Kazuki is fine when he puts doubts aside and acts. But in the interim he gets stuck thinking and doubting about what he should do now and it causes nothing to happen. He has to get it together and do what he has to do.

Was nice to see a rare smile from Eriko during the light hearted brawl. He’s pretty comfortable with Asuka but probably because he hasn’t thought of her as a girl per say. If he ever did we might have more of his inner conflicts. As we saw though with Eriko at least he hasn’t even hit friend level so at least it was a wake up call to do something.

On a side note why would that Berry-Berry Ramen even be on the menu? If almost no one orders it and those who do get glances of ‘are you insane?’ is it really worth keeping there?

Well Nana isn’t too bad. If you dump the Frogs (which they did for an episode wooo) then she’s fine. Is a little too involved with his love life. Can empathize with Kazuki having a little sister myself. But can at least understand Nana’s actions.

Appreciate Kai in that he knows what he wants and goes for it. I’m just not sure Mao is ready for that yet. She can have fun with him in the games and is more open in a friend level. But maybe because of something that happened in France she just doesn’t seem comfortable. Frankly just can’t understand it much.

Mitsuki…Not the group to ask that kind of thing. Trying to get a real answer from Kouichi and Yuumi is like asking a fish about flying. And no it’s not a flying fish :). Yuumi sounds more like obsession and Kouichi seems like anyone you care about that’d fit.
