Shugo Chara Episode 11 - “A Bittersweet Winter Holiday”

First, some alibis regarding the lack of blog updates. So last week was the office Christmas rush, busy with preparations for our [formal] company Christmas party held last December 15. But since the people in the office are such fun-loving people, the party didn’t stop at that. We had yet another party just this Friday, an “in house” Christmas party this time, loaded with fun-filled activities—a white elephant gift exchange, karaoke, Pictionary and charades tournament, and most importantly… a Wii-party!!

Throughout the week, I spent most of my free time at home playing, so Wii could get to know each other better. It’s even more fun (and distracting?) when you get to know the Wii-mates in the office, who suddenly graced your little baby with a lot of games~

In other words, the Wii (and of course my lack of self-control) is to blame for the MIA status of the blog in the span of a few days, causing me more backlogs orz. I think the Christmas Countdown will now be a countdown to the New Year’s, unless I manage to pull off two or three posts a day in the coming days~

Enough introductions and onto Shugo Chara episode 11 (aka the episode last week):

This episode is loads fun~ :3 This has got to be the episode which remained most true to the chapter it was based on, unlike the other ones which were either complete fillers, or drastically changed. The original story was adapted for the winter holiday season, so in lieu of the summer beach elements, we see skiing, ice sculptures, and multi-layered clothing (which might have disappointed fans who were looking for more skin). We just didn’t get to see this one brief moment with Amu remembering Ikuto’s dumpty key, because she still hasn’t seen it yet.

Tadase, smitten by Amulet Heart <3

I personally liked this winter version of the beach chapter, as it became more fitting to portray the sadness Amu felt, when she found out that the prince she admires likes Amulet Heart instead. Tadase might be a gentleman, but he sure is insensitive when he told Amu about that. He has a lot to learn about a woman’s feelings. Minus points for you, and plus points for Ikuto!

Suu is sleeping soundly desuu~ XD

The scene with Amu spending the cold night outside the room with her Shugo Charas felt like H&C, especially with the background music being played in the midst of the heartwarming scene~

One-sided blush, one-sided “love”.

Tadase’s feelings towards Amulet Heart is comparable to how Amu feels about him. Amu is attracted to Tadase’s ouji-sama persona, in the same way as Tadase is attracted to her ultra-genki “cheer”ful persona. The feelings they have is simply crush or infatuation, more than anything else, IMO. But since Amu hasn’t realized her true feelings yet, she thinks that her “love” for Tadase is one-sided.

Tadase’s attraction to (Amu)let Heart could be likened to a guy who’s attracted to a certain girl because she reminds him of someone else. The guy doesn’t love her for who she truly is, but simply for this certain “entity” or persona he sees in, or tries to project to her, so to speak. Amu will someday become one with her Amulet Heart persona, but she shouldn’t strive hard to do so simply for the sake of winning Tadase’s heart. She should turn to Ikuto, who loves her truly for her tsundere self =P

Tadase’s first love… lol

Aside from this, we find out that the “girl” Tadase was referring to when she rejected Amu’s confession way back episode 1, is no one else but a… four-legged mammal~! =__=’’’’

Shy Miki ish so cute~ =3

On a serious note, this episode tackled the issue of how Amu can truly become her would-be self, with her own strength and not that of the Shugo Charas. Despite how Amu’s Shugo Charas take the liberties to make her chara-nari most of the time, we can see how she’s slowly becoming too dependent on them, especially with the ice sculpture task in this episode. Instead of doing her best till the end, she gave up too easily and opted for the convenient way of doing things. All’s well that ends well, and she realized her shortcomings because of Miki :3

  2. @totali: I actually loved the moves here better than the soccer episode. Seeing Amu and Kuukai both Chara-nari to compete in becoming the best~ hehe.
