Allow me to interrupt our normal programming as if there was such a thing to begin with? :p and bring you this random image post.
I stumbled upon these while I was searching for the csubbed True Tears episode 4, and found them to be really lovely pics~ just beautiful <3 It was not until a few seconds after that I noticed the annoying caption on the pictures, screaming “TRUE TEARS;; ON AIR”, which reminded me of the comparisons made by other bloggers regarding the similarity of this series to Kanon’s AIR, which is understandably, a debatable subject.
I know this is most likely coincidental, yet I couldn’t help but think of the intended reference possibility.
In any case, not having watched AIR has its advantages, as it allows me to enjoy True Tears as it is. A wonderful anime that might just leave me as torn-in-between the girls in the triangle, similar to KimiKiss, though on a different “emotional level”.

Yes… those images are nicely shaded.
Err… are those the max resolutions? It would be nice to have them in wall paper size resolutions…
Those images are drawn by the shows actual character designer (they’re from his own site). So yeah, “on air” means currently airing
@dKiWi: the ones I found have a resolution of 800×600, just resized it to fit our little content area. Perhaps you might want to check out the character designer’s site, as asdf has pointed out.
@asdf: thanks for the heads up! now to check out that site… :3
Both of those would make awesome desktops, if not for that annoying text
I’ve watched both Air and This series, and to be honest, i hadn’t really considered them similar. Sure if you sit and disect them you probably will find similarities, but where’s the fun in that!!!
I liked Air, and i like this series, both for different reasons and both on their own merits. That said, i do find some of the characters of TT damned annoying!!
I’ve been hearing so many good things about this show past the first ep….I really need to find the time to catch up….studies, bah!
Yeah, there’s little in common between AIR and True Tears.
They share a rich/fantastical atmosphere, moe characters (with AIR being considerably more extreme than True Tears) with problems, and pretty aesthetics, but that’s about as far as the comparison goes. Seems to me that bloggers are drawing on superficial similarities.
@Tiamat’s Disciple: annoying, eh… I think I know what you mean. I see “signs” of a coming melodramatic storm…
@totali: the “suspense” and build-up of the story is great… but I just hope it’ll break the cliches and mistakes other romance / harem series had.
@Skua: the ones I mentioned actually compared Air with True Tears, right when it just aired, as far as first impressions go ^^ They found the “atmosphere” similar, but that’s that
it seems like no matter what it is (especially thinking of ef at the moment), people want to draw connections/comparisons to kyoani. i think on a technical level this could interesting, analyzing the way light and color are implemented, etc… but as far as storytelling is concerned, i can’t even put Air and TT in the same genre (not to mention ef!). “atmosphere”? Air seemed epic, totalizing and drenched in doom-ridden murkiness, while at the same time shattering its borders to explore infinite, non-defined spaces, emotional and aesthetic. everytime i hear that opening riff from “poem of bird” i get the chills. by bringing in the sort of ethereal “tears” and “sky” (and oh yeah, chickens!) metaphors in TT, the show only seems to reveal its limitations. i’m not saying that’s a negative, as i’ve been enjoying TT, and the story has its fun twists and well-framed surprises. hopefully TT will destroy any expectations i have at the moment. it’s really beautiful i think, but Air lends itself to being a genre-transcending masterpiece from the first moment. even scenes that were yet to be contextualized within the narrative made me want to cry for seemingly no reason. TT has never given me that feeling. the experience feels much more episodic and sequential, even if we end up brutalized by horrifying flashbacks later on… other shows like myself;yourself, etc. have shown that ghosts from the past aren’t always enough to shake the foundations of a scenario’s “reality” principle.
Can somebody provide a link to the designer’s website ,please? I have tried looking for it with no results as I don’t know Japanese.
@woife9243hingr: (was that nick purely random or what? lol)
anyways, I have yet to watch AIR… but I think you just made me want to watch it x__x to each his own, but as I’ve also mentioned, the comparisons people made between True Tears and AIR is as far as episode 1 goes, “first impression”, which was somewhat dispelled later on.
@inter4ever: THE SITE IS A LIE!
seriously, I think the pic was posted in the staff blog, for a short period of time after TT aired. now it’s gone =/
I’ve posted the original size of the pic I found, though it’s not really that big either… x__x
While AIR was great for the most part (the second half was less enjoyable, imo), I am currently liking True Tears more. AIR is meant to be transcendent and captures that quality extremely well. True Tears, though, is not, and despite having some mysteries, seems much more grounded and real, and this, to me, has made it more accessible and easier to connect with than AIR was.
Well, this show is nothing like Air, yet when I watched the first episode, the ending reminded me of Air in the instant, because the scenes were really too similar to Air. The sunset, spread arms girl, then girl looks at the sky and says something weird, focus on the guy, and then girl, and then both.
And, both sad girls, so that’s the only similarity I found -but it was quite the similarity in animation scenes-. Then they are both totally different.
