The JLPT Verdict is Out

otsukaresama deshita~ to all who took JLPT ^-^

Finally, after months of anticipation, the JLPT results are out. People in Japan already got them on the first week of February, but other countries like ours had to wait just a little bit more for the results. And… *drumroll*

the bunny chef passed JLPT2!! Hurray! What makes me happy is that this will translate into a pay raise for me! XDDD But of course, my primary motivation for studying Nihongo is my otakuism, more than anything :3 I got a total score of 312/400, which is said to be the highest score anyone in our little company was able to get for JLPT2. But of course, I wasn’t intending to compete with anyone with this exam, that’ll ruin the fun! Actually, I was a bit sad that I only got a grade 78%, because I was hoping I’ll get at least 80+. Oh well, this is the result of not studying early on… >_< I really need to polish up my listening skills. I'm not quite proud of having a 63% score. I guess I need to watch more raw animes and jdoramas, and perhaps listen to more Drama CDs :P

I still don't know how absolute0 and Seleria fared however, because they still haven't gotten their results. I'm still hoping and praying for the best though!

A message to all who took the exam, regardless of whether you passed or fail. Language learning, or learning in general, is a never ending journey, cliche as that might sound. The JLPT, is just a checkpoint, more than anything. A gauge of how far you've gone in terms of studying Nihongo, the kanji, grammar and comprehension knowledge you have, materialized and proved to be true by... a piece of paper :P As such, if you failed, it means you just need to learn more. The blood, sweat and tears you poured out for studying won't go to waste either, so long as you don't take the knowledge you gained for granted, and strive to continue on.

JLPT, even the highest and most glorious level 1, is not supposed to be viewed as an endpoint. After passing, or even failing the exam, you'd still have to continue on studying, if you really desire to learn or master the language. Honestly, my JLPT2 passing has been overrated in the office. It's not that I'm not proud of it, because I am *hurray pay raise!*, but I feel that I still have sooo much more to learn. I'm not even halfway through this Nihongo journey. Heck I can’t even speak straight Nihongo T_T Given that, I’m not really comfortable when people start “worshipping” me like some Nihongo master, coz I’m not! >_>”’ (I wonder if any of my officemates read this lol) I’m just an ordinary otaku girl with a passion for learning Nihongo, who also has her share of failures, and… studying procrastination blues XD

Technically speaking, there’s supposed to be no “pass” and “fail” in this exam. Because it’s a win-win situation! It’s all in the mindset of people :)

Don’t aim to pass JLPT. Aim to study Nihongo, keeping in mind the “requirements” for the JLPT level, to serve as a guide perhaps. But not be pressured by it. Work hard, but enjoy what you do ^-^

  1. Wooooo! Congrats!

I personally never have any real plans on taking any of the JLPT tests because I can only see learning the language as something I do for fun….don’t need it for my career or anything :S. I definitely love the continuous study though, since it basically never ends. ;P

  4. Great job! I would not be able to obtain a good score from it T_T

I probably will never take the JLPT, but I guess it could act as checkpoint or something.

  6. Congratulations once again. Now, in order to commemorate your JLPT 2, I suggest taking apart a terrible group’s fansubs so you can be famous like DarkMirage!!! Not.

  11. thanks guys~ *hugs* XD
@double/Mizuu: skipping JLPT4 for JLPT3 is reasonable and really doable, since the level of these 2 aren’t that far. That’s what I did actually :3

@Owen: roflmao. I actually did that already… before I even got my JLPT2, for the La Corda subs. But I did it in a civil way… I mentioned it in their forum (and also in the Animesuki forum)… ^^”’

@bj0rn: I need to work on my communication aspect… I so lack training and practice for that =/ You can try answering the past JLPT exams? to see if you can pass JLPT3?

@meganeshounen: w00t! now I’m a certified pinoy otaku indeed! XD

  15. I’m late once again but congrats  . Haha I’m taking Japanese 2 at some college but I have NO IDEA where that is JLPT level wise. So how far do you need to be exactly to pass level 3?

Posted by kiseki gurl UNITED STATES | February 27, 2008, 12:10 pm
  16. JLPT2 will be pretty hardcore, if you’re fairly new to the Japanese language. For level 3, you should know the basic grammar patterns, and about 300-500 kanjis, from what I can remember. Having a chinese background helps a lot in the kanji memorization~ :3
