Toshokan Sensou

Inside Information on Toshokan Sensou: A ‘Deep Frying’ Prequel Part 1

GAR Women FTW! >3

I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE TOSHOKAN SENSOU ANIME!!!! RAWR!

Ok, just thought I had to let that out xD

I know we still haven’t cooked up our Spring 2008 Menu post, but I wanted to pimp Toshokan Sensou SO BAD I detracted from doing that and dedicated a post for this series instead. Not much information around this title’s novel and mangas can be found on the net so far, and so I decided to provide a sneak preview for this show as early as now. I’ve already done this for Kurenai, and Junjou Romantica, so why not do this for my most anticipated anime of the season, right? =3

Just for the record, I’m reading the novel, and both the manga versions at the moment, and I’m LOVING it! It’s a great mix of action, romance, and comedy, which gives me some FMP vibes too, sans the mecha. With this, allow me to guide you into the world of Toshokan Sensou, as I reveal some inside information on this upcoming anime, and hopefully, make you guys see that this is a series that fanboys and fangirls alike will love ;)

The Characters

Meet Iku and Doujou, the tsundere stars of this Library Lovely Complex. Iku, our heroine, is 170cm in height, whilst Doujou, her superior, is 5 cm short of that. xD

Iku Kasahara

Also known as an “[over] zealot”, this girl possesses both passion for books and brawling (thanks to her older brothers). She was so inspired by her ‘prince charming’ that she decided to enter the Library Task Force, in search for her prince, and to one day be a hero like him. Oh, and she’s also gained the nickname “Bear Killer #2″, for reasons we’ll find out later xD

Atsushi Doujou

The hot-tempered “chibi” superior, who found his “match” in Iku, both in terms of brawling being hotblooded, fearless and passionate xD He’s gotten so used to calling Iku “アホか、貴様!” (you stupid bastard) I actually think it’s his affectionate name for her already :P He’s the original “Bear Killer” btw. He and Iku are kindred souls, to the point of ending up constantly arguing because of both their stubbornness :P

Mikihisa Komaki

The gentleman prince-charming-like character in the series, and a great support to just about each and every hotblooded character in the show. He reminds me of Yukito because of how he maintains that smile on his face, as well as his calmness, coolness and composure, despite whatever situations.

Hikaru Tezuka

The stubborn haughty genius who hates incompetent people, which he considers Iku to be one of. He excels in just about everything, but not in the social aspect and anything involving heights.

Asako Shibasaki

Iku’s roommate and best friend, who’s part of the Task Force’s General Affairs Dept (as opposed to Iku and Doujou, who belongs to the Defense Dept). A smart and really perceptive bijin, whose character is a real mystery.

EDIT: As per Kabitzin’s request, here goes the section dedicated for the big guy~ :P

Ryuusuke Genda

The head of the Special Library Task Force, whose personality is already made clear by the picture above lol. He’s a bit rash at times, which earns him a scolding from his subordinates, especially Doujou. According to Komaki, Genda actually enjoys arguing with Doujou :P He’s the kind of BIG GUY with a BIG LAUGH.

Hurray for Production IG! 8D

(I think I just spoiled myself with what I read in Wikipedia, though I know I’ll be able to read those in the later volumes of the novel. Oh well, let’s just say that sparked up my interest for this series even more, coz of some plot twists =D)

More ‘inside scoop’ to be discussed in part2 of this post, with manga eyecandies to boot!

  4. Hmm, this looks way better than I expected; thanks for the additional info! Any idea of how many episodes this will be? If it is 12 episodes as rumored, I will definitely try picking this up for next weason.

Iku looks interesting, and the idea of FMP vibes without mecha sounds like something I would enjoy =D.

  8. @Kabitzin: I’m happy to be pimping this show 8D I believe it’s gonna run for 12 eps, or so that’s what was indicated in moonphase the last time I checked. I’m not sure if they had a change of plans recently… hmmm

I’m pretty certain you’ll find this enjoyable, Kabitzin =D

@Blissmo: All the guys (except the BIG GUY Genda) looks good and bishielicious xD Love the character designs~

@Impz: haha, can’t wait for April!!

@Owen: I took for granted all my other planned posts just to get this one out! It’s more than worth it xD

  9. :!: Doujou has convinced me. I’m watching this.

Thanks, Usagijen. I like the premise already, though I like the premises for ROD TV but got so totally bored I didn’t watch more than 3 episodes. At least this anime has good looking guys instead of nothing but ditsy and/or tsundere women.

  10. Big guys need love too! Your pimping of this show has me slotting this show into my list of series to blog next season.

  11. Nice Lovely Complex reference, plus Doujou has “Atsushi” in his name too just like Otani. Oh, I think I’m gonna like him this. Looking forward to their fun-to-watch bickering. ;)
I was already wanting to watch this since it’s Prod’n IG quality, but seeing the bishieness of Doujou, Komaki and Tezuka makes me anticipate this series even more. ^-^

  12. @briar: hehehe, bishies~~ XDD Doujou and Iku should be more than enough reason to want to watch this XD

@Kabitzin: and so I did give the big guy some love :P whee~ looking forward to your coming posts on this one!

@hazy: wah, I didn’t notice the Atsushi similarity earlier! lol!

bishies aside, Iku and Doujou’s antics are priceless~! XD

  13. OMG thanks so much for all the info (and spoilers lol)!!! Toshokan Sensou is the anime I’m looking forward to most, despite knowing very little about. The promo picture of Iku holding a book just grabbed me. Also, I like the Fujioka Haruhi type girls. :P Lucky you for being able to read the novels and manga!! In fact I wanted the manga so bad I’ve been staring at the few pages you put up in your Spring preview for ages XD

  14. Argh , BAD COMMENT BOX, BAD!

Was saying that I love Iku :-)

Posted by Extrange PORTUGAL | March 18, 2008, 8:35 pm
  15. @faye: Iku is less composed than Ouran’s Haruhi, but she certainly KICKS ASS x1000 better than her xDDD

    @Extrange: I wonder what’s wrong with commenting… it seems to be eating up comments as of late x__x;;;

I love Iku too! But of course Doujou > Iku still :P

  16. Wait, the main character is a girl? I thought it was a guy, zomg!
I should probably link back to you for this anime…. okay, all done! :)

Posted by Nagato UNITED STATES | March 21, 2008, 8:28 am
  17. @Nagato: aww thanks for that XD but tsk… Iku will be insulted that you thought of her as a guy :P

  18. Hehe, I didn’t do much delving into it at all. The combination of the words ‘Library’ and ‘War’ piqued my interest sufficiently. ^^

  19. My last attempt at commenting failed, so I’m gonna give it another go.

Thanks again usagijen, for visiting and providing me more information about Toshokan Senshou. Glad to see that your “pimping crusade” is going well :)

At first glance I didn’t know what to expect from this series, and I couldn’t find much information about the series. But now after reading your information on it, I really am excited for this series to come out.

    Thanks again!

  20. Thanks so much for the info on this series! I was already looking forward to it after hearing about the basic premise, but now that I actually know more about the characters it’s making me want to watch it even MORE. XD I love the fact that Doujou is shorter than Iku; having male leads who are shorter than the female leads has always been one of my moe points. *_* And I love strong female characters, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing her in action. XDXDXD

  21. @Tuna: My pleasure! Now if you’ll really enjoy Toshokan Sensou once you watch it, that’ll all the more make me a happy bunny!

@modorenai: Strong women FTW! Iku’s the kind of female character who only comes once in a while, which makes me really giddy and excited for this anime! XD

I was first interested in this series because of BBB, but it’s so interesting! I’m watching it right now, and I shall look for the novel and manga soon.

Thanks for the info, I super fail at kan’ji when I was watching it. >_> Can’t….read….their names….
