Yes, dear readers, it’s been a year since the [official] birth of Scrumptious, which is coincidentally, a few days away from the blog birthday of my cute little otouto Totali and the nazi dictator Owen. So yeah, that means we share the same blog signs too.
And just to share with you guys the lengthy history of our little blog…
The Bunny’s Life Before Blogging
Not sure if you want to hear this nonsensical info but anyways
A few years before blogging, particularly during my college life, I was immersed in the world of mangas, otome & RPG games (yes I was and still am an otome game addict, just more passive now), and well, being a geek in school. Way back my Glorious Upload Days, I became known as the Queen of [Manga] RawsTM, and helped out several scanlation groups: Entropy, ShoujoMagic, and DGT. I also tried my hand on editing, though it was very short-lived. I ventured out to become a translator for Entropy and Storm in Heaven (relying on both Chinese and Japanese raws, which I often search by myself lol), and most of the ones I did were short stories of shoujo fluff. I’m still supposedly a translator for these groups, but I’ve been slacking off BIG TIME, especially after blogging. I promised myself to at least finish translating this one manga for Storm in Heaven before I finally call it quits (I’m getting lazier and lazier to translate) >_<
The Birth of Scrumptious
The Scrumptious Blog is actually the brainchild of the duo-team of the hamster chef Seleria and the dino chef absolute0. Originally hosted on wordpress.com, the blog moved to AB after gaining Maestro’s approval, and that’s when I hopped into the merry Scrumptious Blogging bandwagon, thanks to Seleria’s invitation. I was originally writing for my own blog Mio Color a few months before that, which was filled with nothing else but my Corda fandom. So with the merge that happened, on that fateful day of April 16, 2007, the new Scrumptious Blog was born, with the additional bunny adopted into the family. Bele, our duck chef, was also invited by Seleria as a guest blogger, but he somehow lost the passion to blog now, while retaining his ever loyalty to Danny Choo
Spring 2007 - The Deep Frying Begins
As Springtime came, we found ourselves engaging in episodic blogging, despite not having any plans to become such a blog (look at the first few posts by Seleria and absolute0, for your reference). With Kaze no Stigma and Oofuri, Seleria and I gained our deep frying fame, empowered by our Animesuki Forums pimping power, together with tj’s pimping. I met fellow KnS fangurl Briar, and had our blogroll handshake with Kabitzin during this time, much to our surprise and delight
I also embarked into the Saiunkoku narrative blogging crusade, partly due to the influence of Impz, and the fact that there are only two guys blogging this wonderful shoujo series. This earned me a handshake with fellow Saiunkoku fans, particularly psgels and Karura. But alas, this crusade only lasted until… my 1st ever Japan Trip, which became the beginning of what I’d refer to as our Blogging Twilight ZoneTM.
Summer 2007 - The Blogging Twilight Zone
Up until this point, we are still isolated from the rest of the blogosphere (’blogosphere? what blogosphere?’ mindset). I know for a fact that Seleria and absolute0 have been faithfully following some blogs before they started out their own, Random Curiosity, Memento, A Saffron Star, Star Crossed Anime Blog, RIUVA, among others, way back the blogsuki days. Compared to them, I was more of the blogosphere n00b, so to speak. I was too focused on our blog to discover the vast anime blogosphere, and obviously didn’t have that community mindset.
And with the trip I had in Japan, I completely missed out on one entire anime season, failing to watch and/or blog the shows I was supposedly looking forward to in the Summer lineup, Potemayo, Mushiuta, Zombie Loan, and Nanatsuiro Drops ;___; Not only this, I also missed out on some really juicy discussions or tidbits in the blogosphere, the Otagirl discussions, Impz highlighting the history of the anime blogging community, among others. Oh well, no use for regrets now
I also slacked off from blogging as I spent three weeks in Japan for work and a little leisure, gained a pile of backlogs, and prioritized Kaze no Stigma, which I managed to catch up with till the end. Seleria and absolute0 on the other hand got swamped with work, but somehow managed to get some rest and finished some of the titles they were blogging.
Fall 2007 - The Rise of the Ronery Bunny
When Fall came, I found myself majorly fangurling over Shugo Chara and KimiKiss, which lead me closer to Hinano and Totali. Then came October, and I started hanging out on #AB, for reasons I can’t quite remember anymore. I was greeted with a chaotic welcome, with flying bunnies and some crazy battles, and the only one who seemed sane was jinya (and my savior mellow_bunny) lol. It was quite a shock at first, considering the quietness of most channels I lurk in, but I somehow got past that stage of shock xD. Here I met fellow Filipino bloggers, Mike, bluemist, and Zeroblade.
Then on December, I got invited by Owen to join the Anime Blogging Collective, and I agreed, despite being reluctant at first, due to not having a clue as to what I can contribute. Hanging out on irc, together with joining the ABC, became a big leap for me, and brought me closer to the blogging community
Hence, I didn’t feel all ronery despite the MIA status of my comrade chefs during these months (until the present >_>).
Winter 2008 - Winter’s Block and Thawing with True Tears
For some reason I lacked inspiration to write something during the first few weeks of the Winter anime season, and focused my energies on KimiKiss (as well as some upcoming Spring shows lol). I continued on with my KimiKiss babblings, and True Tears sometime later. And it was during these times that I got closer to siscon Stripey , Harem Overlord CCYoshi and Noe-comrade Crusader.
Spring 2008 - The Present
Ah Spring~ This is probably what I’d call the official start of my renewed blogging life. From quitting episodic blogging (this is somewhat a loose term, since I can still do random episodic posts if I wanted :p), to pave the way for free-form blogging, I can say hello to procrastination and fun fun fun~
I expanded my watch list, and for the first time in many anime seasons, I managed to watch the first episode of almost all animes airing, which just made me all the more confused on what I should stick to @__@
Thank you dear readers and commentators, especially those who sticked around with us, from the Kaze no Stigma days, up until now. FlareKnight, Mentar, kazumaXX, beingmeyuki, Tomochii-chan, among others, thank you guys for your continued patronage of our blog
And perhaps I should also thank the people who voted me for Hinano’s Renai Dating Sim game, whatever your intentions might be >_>
There’s also the ongoing Anime Blog Awards, whose light is now being seen by the blogosphere as its organizers have stepped up to clear the misconceptions and silence the grumblings of the pessimistic masses, to direct our attention to the positive side of this all
I’m going to take this time to thank all the people who nominated us. Honestly, I never thought we’ll get any nominations, because our blog is pretty much a lost cause, and won’t really fit into the categories, unless you consider the changes in my personas when blogging as a “Me, Myself, and Usagijen” kind of team blog lol.
It’s not until recently that I wholeheartedly found joy in blogging, and I owe that to being part of this wonderful community :3 From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
On a side note, I should really change our banner now, it hasn’t changed for a year!! X_X
Woo grats on one year! I remember your Animesuki forum pimping of Kaze no Stigma drawing me to this blog and leading me down the dark path of KnS (which went south so badly it was shocking). I look forward to your sorta-editorials in year 2!
What a fun year ^^ you make it sounds like …. its PARTY TIME!!!! Congrats! Yeeaaaay.
Keep it up! :3
Congratulations! I still remember the Saiunkoku and OoFuri summaries leading me to Scrumptious, but since then I’ve always found reason to come over and over again to read the entries here. Viva the Toshokan Sensou love! ;P
Happy [official] Birthday!
Happy birthday to your blog, usagijen! May you have many more birthday posts to come.
This is weird. Everyone seems to have birthdays around the same time, and I didn’t know it (perhaps because I discovered all the blogs at waaaaay different times). I say this because I’ve only got a few days to 1 year myself.
Congrats on staying around for a year to provide
OMG GIRLperspective on all the latest shows. Maybe as a present one of your favorite heroines can win this time…;_;
Personally, I enjoyed the deep-frying of Kaze no Stigma, which quickly became one of my favourite animes of the season (and of all time!). I’m looking forward to seeing more about this great series on this page, especially now that the second Kouen no Miko-manga is out ^^
Happy birthday, Scrumptious!
Happy Birthday! You’re getting older
And just because you’re one years old, usagijen you will always be Moe Baa-chan to me~
Happy Birthday! Thanks for the shoujo/Oofuri love!
You were part of ShoujoMagic? Wow that’s nostalgia to me, I silently lurved this scanslation group (among other shoujo manga groups) when shoujo manga was my entire life! Oh fond memories! Most probably I caught some of your manga you scanned, thank you for molding my shoujo side.
Congratulations on your blog anniversary!
Happy Birthday Scrumptious! May you age gloriously and with dignity, and may Haruhi-sama watch over you on all of your blogging endeavors.
Rest assured usagijen that our intentions in nominating you for the “Project” are completely honorable. In fact I will blog about your path to show that there are those who will play your path with nary a hint of lust within their minds, though expect a lot of for teh lulz.
I propose that you change your banner to something more Amuto-ish.
Many happy returns! I’d say more but my mind stopped functioning due to a Guchuko-moe overload.
Epic timeline. Another Spring baby, huh? Congratulations on your first year. I’d make a comment on how mature that picture of Amu looks, but I have a feeling it’d be totally inappropriate however I phrased it. Hope you’ll keep on blogging for many more years to come! (:
I like timelines.
I always though Scrumptious was older….I guess it just wasn’t “officially”.
Gratz on one year!!!
It’s been fun to see how I started just before the edge of the appearance of new blogs last year. Happy Birthday for Scrumptious, and hopefully you have many more to come. :3
aw thank you guys *hugs*
@Kabitzin: now I feel guilty for pimping KnS lol. It really went down the drains after the first few arcs, though silly me wasn’t able to see that beforehand
@issa-sa: ooh so you were just a lurker before! hehe. glad to see you decided to stick around with us~ ^-^
@CCY: aww, don’t worry CCYoshi, time will come when these pairings will be in my favor!
@Priss-chan: thanks for the heads up, Priss-chan! I was actually waiting for the Misao arc to be finished in the manga, before saying my thoughts on it… but argh, after 9 chapters it still wasn’t finished! I wonder if the 2nd volume covers it till the end x__x
@Blissmo: noooooo!! oh well, I’m young at heart~ and just for the record, I look quite young for my age :p
@bluemist: oh I didn’t scan them, just… leeched them from other sources lol. But perhaps you did read some of the ones I contributed raws too. Didn’t know you were a shoujo manga fan!
@Crusader: and yes, Amuto-ish banner it shall be!
but rawr, I refuse to become a fapping material! x__X
@IKnight: Wahh!! you have been sucked in by the Guchuko-moeblob~!!
@Owen: lol, whatever you meant by mature, I’ll leave it at that.
@totali: yeah, you’re my blog sempai (by a few days old)!!
@TheBigN: and thank you for blogging!
Aha! And you’ve taken over Scrumptious!
Happy Birthday to Scrumptious! ^^
Oh yeah, and since I’ve nowhere else to put it … can I pester you for a summary of the new D.N.Angel manga chapters? I don’t think anyone’s translating it yet and waiting for it Stateside will put me in a coma.
(Although that might not be too bad if I get to steal all the taiyaki I want, but I digress.)
Thanks. ^^
@Nagato: lol, yeah somewhat. I do hope my fellow chefs will come back, especially my fellow fangurl Seleria T__T
@CCY: hehe, you should’ve emailed me for this
Anyways, I haven’t really read that new chapter, coz I really lost track of the latest story arc. I’m gonna make one D.N.Angel banner to constantly remind me to read and make a short summary of that x_x
Omedeto tanjyoubi Scrumptious folks ^^ many more happy blogging years to come!!
Congrats on your first birthday! May you always stay the fun fangurl that you are, making enthusiastic entries. Keep up the good work! ^_^
Happy Birthday Scrumptious~
A bunny chef would make a great new banner
Eternally late as usual.
However, it is better late than never. HAPPY FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY! \o/
Happy birthday, ate.
Yeah, impz, I’m also late again. I only check ANO certain times in a day, and I can’t believe I missed her celebration. Congrats, ate.
Happy Belated Birthday Scrumptious! Been swamped with work, haven’t had the chance to go online blog surfing for some time. (didn’t even have the time to reply the comments on my own blog posts -_-)
And hey, I got mentioned!
Cool! And I do so love your KnS deep frying. To think, KnS was also a landmark for me, as it was the start of blogging for me.
@faye: thanks!!
@hazy: I hope I retain my fangurl self too, hazy~~~ :3
@Nekonron: rofl. bunny banner?! I sacrifice another bunny in my behalf!
@Impz & Mike: np~ thankies!
@Briar: *hugs and pats Briar*
it’ll be great if you can have more time blogging, and we’ll go fangurling~
(find another work! hehe)
Sorry I’m late, happy 1 year anniversary!!
Thanks Hinano!^^
Congratulations!!!Cheers and Happy blogggging!hheheeh:D
