Koko wa Greenwood Goes Live Action Desu~

I don’t expect anyone else to be excited about this except old-school animu fans, but anyways.

I saw this news in akiba-station of the upcoming JDrama adaptation of the classic shoujo manga/anime Here is Greenwood, which, according to my antique precious little diary, was something I watched way back year 2000! High school years, VHS times and all that age of antiquity. Amazingly enough, despite having watched this 6-episode OAV only once, the impact it had on my still immature-animu-fan self back then is evident in how I could remember much of its details — the hijinx inside the Greenwood dormitory, the TRAP of the show, and the sweet romance between a tsundere girl and a tsundere guy which brought me to tears despite not understanding how the girl got to realize who she loves orz. It had this poignancy which made it really memorable, and throughout these years I had this lingering thought of rewatching the show. The news of this upcoming live action series reawakened those thoughts, made it all vivid again, and perhaps this time around, I’ll finally be able to get my lazy butt to watch it, so I can finally understand it once and for all, demmit!

Since I haven’t had a dose of JDrama as of late (despite having Zettai Kareshi in my pile of backlogs), I might just follow this series given my [un]forgettable love for the anime, and enjoy the comedic and romantic antics of the show in a modern light (as opposed to the old-school atmosphere of the anime, that is). It’s one of those fun lighthearted romantic comedy / drama series, which I find perfect as a live action adaptation, so I’m really hoping this will turn out good! I just hope they won’t make fun of this show the way they did with the Hanakimi JDrama — entertaining and fun, yet lacking in development and overall substance x__x;;

Here’s to hoping that a JDrama adaption of the wonderful classic shoujo manga Cipher is in the works!! ;___;

  1. I’m all sorts of happy for this one. Old school but sweet. But I hope, they’d capture the tone of the series. J-drama adaptations, while entertaining, rarely wows me.

  2. A “Here is Greenwood” dorama? Count me in! The anime was one of the first I’d ever watched as a kid, and it’s how I learned what “hentai” means. >_>!

  3. If they do decide to do a live-action of Cipher, I will just keel over and die of absolute happiness.

  4. The guy is wearing a cookie monster shirt! xD
    It sounds interesting though, I’d watch it if I could find even a SEMBLANCE of an anime shop where I live.

  6. @Ten: I guess I haven’t watched enough live adaptation of mangas to be disappointed, just yet… Hana Yori Dango and Nodame were one of the best ones among the bunch, I think? I’m also hoping they’ll retain the sweetness (and dramatic tone) of this series… no more silly jokes please =.=;

    @Nana: lol! no wonder it’s so memorable for you, eh XD

    @Anna: omgz me too +___+ but no, we should live to watch it first, then we can die in happiness afterwards XD

    @A Day Without Me: hehe yes! hurray for more Koko wa Greenwood fans XD

  7. When I found out that Greenwood was becoming a drama I was in fan girl mode. I was so excited! Greenwood is one of my fav manga’s and I LUV THE OAV! . I heard of it when the manga was being released here in 2004. I have all the volumes too! ^^ I heard that there was an anime but, I decided to buy it when I finish the entire manga. I bought the DVD a couple of years around the time the manga ended. I just can’t wait. I saw the cast which I wasn’t expecting but, I’m not expecting it to be great but, it will at least make me relive greenwood again I’ve read on some site; someone said that they can’t believe that after 20+ years someone wants to make this a drama. They also went on to say that it’s premise makes it great source material for a drama. I agree! Lately it seems that mangas are becoming great source material for dramas. Of course this is good for the company involved because when they run out of source material they look into manga. I don’t really like that because what may end up happening are bad adaptations and we all at one time or another have seen those. Let’s just hope that doesn’t happen to Greenwood. Greenwood is so great! It really cool to see other fan girls like you and me having been touched with it. It’s so pure and real! When I think of the series it also reminds me of HachiKuro. I wish there would be more manga/anime like theses. I’ve haven’t come across that many manga that hold a special place in my heart like these. Granted, there many series that do it for me and are all special in their own way but, there isn’t a lot of series, nowadays, at least in my opinion, that makes one reflect, that touches or sparks us in some way, or even change us for the better. This is my observation! Could I be wrong? Certainly! I’ve been a anime fan for most of my life and I haven’t seen every anime nor read every manga out there. It seems to me that it’s very hard to come by good anime lately. It’s just not the way they used to make it. Finding good anime now is like trying to find a needle in a hay sack. The anime industry has really become sour; it has become sullied and it really pains me to see it in shambles or to even contemplate the future of anime for that matter. But al least we have the good stuff being made. I feel as if it might come to the point were we will have to go out of our way to find quality and you know why does that even have to be? Moreover, why am I even coming to that conclusion. I turned 21 last month and I feel like I’m getting old because I’m not a teenager anymore but, reading stories like Greenwood reminds me that no matter how old we get, its about how we feel on the inside. Let are hearts remain that of young girls. ^_^

    P.S. Sorry for going on a rant! I went off on a tangent!^^;

  8. I was really happy to hear this too ^^ I haven’t watched the anime (yet) but I read a few volumes of the manga not so long ago and was completely charmed by it. Done right, I think it will make for a great drama ^_^

  9. Oh wow, awesome news! Don’t usually watch JDoramas, but this is surely something fans of Greenwood can’t afford to miss :P (Though the cast looks slightly iffy… Maybe I’m just not used to 3D lol)

  10. @Huda: l-l-long comment! XD
    and it’s not a rant, that’s some fangurl rave you have there! ^^ I am soo going to watch the OAVs again this weekend.

    @Senna and issa-sa: I’m keeping my hopes up for this one, I just hope it’ll be as sweet and lighthearted~

  11. @Usagijen: LOL!XD Thanx! I really appreciate you commenting! Just last weekend, I was watching the OAV’s again too. I didn’t get far but, I just love to re watch it over and over especially those “certain scenes” we all know! ^_^
    I forget to mention this last time but, I have some of the drama cd’s. I bought them all this year too! I found them on ebay! I also the vocal collection too! What’s even crazier, is that I got them really cheap! The drama cds I bought had to be shipped from Japan since the seller was selling them from someone but, yeah. I wouldn’t buy something from overseas unless for good reason. I guess Here is Greenwood would do that to ya! Yup, I’m a crazy fangirl and proud of it! ^_^

  12. Hey guys!
    I just watched the op and ed to the drama. It seems really good! I haven’t seen the first episode yet. Honestly, I don’t even know if I will because I will be leaving July 6 to Yemen. I hope I could see a RAW though. When I watched them, it just brought back this surge of emotion that I felt for the anime and manga which is a good thing. I really hope that the drama adapts the manga and anime well. I doubt will because this is after all a live action which is a totally different medium so of course it won’t be as good but, you never know.

    I hear that Mitsuo Iwata will be the narrator for the drama. I was stoked to hear that because I love him as Mitsuru and I know he pretty much sounds the same as he did those years ago. I think that was a smart move the they did that. I think it would have been much cooler if they did some sort of reunion. I know that on the dvd extras they had the cast talking about the series and they also brought back the here is greenwood radio station but, I think that was only for the dvd. OOH! You know what would be great? If or when they do a episode where they have the manga ka who we all know is suppose to be Nasu-san, be actually played by Yukie Nasu herself. Wouldn’t that be cool! I doubt that would actually happen because most manga ka are private people and don’t like to put themselves in the public’s eye. You never know! Just remember, if it does happen, they got the idea from me! ^_^ Yeah right!^^;

    Anyway, you guys are lucky because you might watch the series and I probably won’t be able to watch it after I come back which is about 4 months from now! NOOOOO! I want to watch KOKO HA GURRINUDO! Take care guys! Talk to ya when I come back! Who knows, maybe I will be able to talk to ya since I will be bringing my laptop. Let’s just hope it works!
    Sayonara! :(

  13. @Huda: thanks for all the heads up! Knowing that Matsuo Iwata is the narrator is just awesome. And yes, if Nasu-sama makes a cameo appearance much like Stan Lee in his movies, that’d be so cool! XD In a way, you are lucky. Because by the time you come home, the series would’ve been completely subbed and you can marathon it without the agony of waiting once a week!

    Anyways, have fun in your trip, don’t let the lack of Greenwood ruin your trip! :P

  14. @Usagijen:LOL!:D I didn’t think I would have time to check my mail but, my flight is around midnight. I know it’s awesome that he’s narrating! I wish she would make a cameo but, it’s all good. Your right, atleast I don’t have to wait each week for an episode to be release but, I kinda like the anticipation and the excitement that comes with it. Same thing with anime! I’m weird! I don’t like to wait! :roll: I was watching yesterday on veoh the here is greenwood special. Apparently, it was a special before the started airing the drama. I could be wrong! It was pretty much interviews with the cast, behind scenes, and sneak peeks. I don’t understand what they are saying but, I was going crazy while I was watching it. I was laughing out loud and stuff! I was having a fangurl moment!:oops: You should definately check it out! Everyone for that matter should! I also found on LJ a group dedicated to HIG. It’s called greenwood fans. I joined and you guys should all join too that is if you have LJ. I go by the user aaliyah416 so hit me up anytime. Thanx for your kind words! I really appreciate it! :-)

    Hopefully, I won’t be too sad! :cry: I’ll try! :oops: I will try to post comments if I can while away. I know I won’t be able to watch HIG but, it’s ok! Ja ne! :(

    LOVE AND PEACE! ::-*:
