Just when I was about to go fangurl over Toshokan Sensou episode 8, Luppy posts an anti-Toshokan Sensou write-up orz. I need to be slapped for reading the entry and making myself all depressed
For the love of Toshokan Sensou and for the sake of this post, I shall forget that ever happened and just think of happy thoughts.
I know I’ve been absent in the Toshokan Sensou blogging scene for who knows how long now, and you don’t have to remind me that I still owe you guys my deep frying Toshokan Sensou posts. Laziness has been keeping me from doing a regular episodic blogging of this show, despite my self-professed love for it, but episode 8 is just BEGGING to be blogged. It’s like the ultimate fangurl episode to date! So yeah, after all the serious posts I’ve churned out I guess it’s finally time to take a break and do what I do best, fangurling~ <3
With the plot-thickening events in the past two episodes brought about by the appearance of the third contender in the supposedly Library x Media Brigade conflict, and the raburabu Iku x Doujou developments so far, I can say that the series would not have gotten this far had they not resorted to omitting a HUGE portion of the novels. Needless to say, Toshokan Sensou would not have been as enjoyable either. Despite how great the novel is, there are just some things better left on paper, and I do think many of the scenes not included in the anime adaptation fall under this category. The censorship stuff in particular, albeit an enlightening subject, might bore the heck out of people, especially with the hundred or so pages dedicated to the fight against censorship (of chidren's books, in volume 1).
If the anime was slated for 20+ episodes, adding all the bookish stuff would've made wonders for it, if only for the levels of depth it will add to this series. But with a short-span of 13 episodes, it was but right that they focused on the exciting main aspects of the novel instead.
Though of course, having strayed away from the novel also became detrimental as the adlibs they've included (the illogical fight scenes in particular) and the stuff they've omitted made people even more unreceptive of this anime. If you're enjoying the show up until now, it simply means that you're watching this with the right mindset, and loving it for what it's really worth.
That said, I still hope the novel will get licensed so both the Toshokan Sensou lovers and [current] haters can read it and give it a second chance.
Ok, enough of that and onto the episode. I won't go into the details and just note the highlights of the episode.
Time flies so fast, and now we’re seeing both Iku and Doujou becoming dere-dere for each other
While I’m still in the middle of writing my rant for an omitted Doujou x Iku scene supposedly shown around episode 3, this scene somewhat makes up for that loss. The omitted scene I’m referring to also shows Doujou saving Iku from being interrogated by the press (in which he calls her by her first name!), details of which I’ll save up for another post.

yes, Iku. And he’s right beside you too.
After Iku’s interrogation (which was all just a scheme of Tezuka’s sneaky brother), Doujou makes her promise to tell him about anything that bothers her. Though of course tsundere (or should I say oranyan?) Doujou makes it sound like it’s a rule, which Iku wasn’t able to refuse. They’ve gained a deeper level of understanding, ever since the last episode, hence we don’t see their banters anymore.
Instead, we see mushy Iku x Doujou moments, one of which was caught on tape LOLz.
And just when you thought there was enough fangurl moments in this episode, it just had to spoil us with more. We see Doujou saving Iku for the second time around, this time against Tezuka’s brother. It wasn’t really necessary, and Doujou even told the other members of the Task Force that they’re not going to do anything about the situation and wait for Iku, but Doujou just couldn’t help but get worried about his kindred spirit Iku.
Iku tries to deny how much she appreciates Doujou’s help, but her tears says it all. And just when I thought we’re finally going to see the pat of love we missed out on with the anime cut-scene in episode 1, it had to be cut-short, literally. Iku wore high-heels at the worst possible time!
Things were back to normal after that, and we see some unexpected developments in Tezuka and Shibasaki’s relationship. Tezuka openly admits that he’s a brazacon rofl. Shibasaki also surprised me with her bold declaration that she can readily sleep with a man, for the sake of her job o.O
As for Iku, let’s just say that she’s finally found her prince with the [unsolicited] help of Tezuka’s brother, though I can’t help but wonder how he found out about this. Talk about the influence that he has. I guess that goes to show how much he’s researched on Iku (and Doujou’s) background eh o.O

i thought this was a write-up for episode 9 which was quite entertaining especially the kasahara-doujou interactions in said episode…
anyway this episode started me in my support for a tezuka-shibasaki pair… they look good together…
PS: i believe you’ll really go fangurl mode after seeing ep 9…
Ahha, I found this episode to be quite boring though … but nice Dojou x Iku moment!
I’m still episode blogging TS and I still love it. I think some of the criticism about the not-realistic premise/plot is justified, but at some point you have to get over it and enjoy the characters. This episode had almost everything I wanted:
1) Atsushi x Iku
2) Asako (and her surprising dedication to her job…)
I would love to learn that this was all a scheme by Atsushi to get Iku to love him, but somehow I don’t think that is the case.
What’s a brazacon? You’ve stumped me.
@apexantapex: Brother complex.
I’m so far behind in this series, but reading your post about it encourages me to catch up
do not listen to Luppy!!! It is actually a terminator from the future sent to destroy Toshokan Sensou and force us to watch animes filled with nothing but lolies and ridiculous giant robots!!!
@kaz3phyrous: I know I will fangurl over that ep! I should watch that tomorrow~!
@blissmo: pfft, this is soo not boring! For the couple shippers, that is.
@Kabitzin: I think I’m gonna hop on board episodic blogging this one now, since there are only a few eps to go! and a long way before I finish my deep frying! hurry for slowness~
If Atsushi did all this for the sake of Iku’s love, that’d be the most awesome plot twist ever~!
@apex: oh sorry for being a weeaboo x__x brazacon is brother complex, which applies to someone who likes his brother so much that he/she tends to be drawn to people who has the same traits as his/her brother.
@Senna: hehe, gogogo! ^_^
@EvilDevil: My love for Toshokan Sensou won’t be destroyed by the likes of Luppy!
“Just what kind of heels are you wearing?” ~LOL. Loved that. Doujou makes me melt.
I agree with kaz3phyrous, I’m supporting Shibasaki x Tezuka too after watching this ep. ^_^
The last screencap is just priceless.
@hazy: All Toshokan Sensou fans absolutely loved that “high heels” scene, priceless gold antic which only Iku x Doujou can pull off
Now I really want to read the novels! It’s nice to have a blogger who’s read them ^__^
*bows to the queen of ToshoSensou love* (Having only read a few sentences of the THIRD novel, I’m not even close - but some day, usagijen, SOME DAY!!!) Lupus’ post kinda depressed me for a while then, but this post and the latest episode has fully returned me to fan mode!!!
episode 8 was great and i was on a TS high but when i saw the raw… episode 9 made me go on fangurl mode since saturday morning. i wish the subs would come out soon because the conversation at the end is something i really really wanna know about and my excellent transciption skills are crap when i do it on japanese. *kyaa~!*
We watch because we love it, not because of some reviews. Just finished episode 9. It is even better than episode 8.
I’m sorry I made you depressed. It was never my intention for the post to appear anti-Toshokan Sensou, I wanted to be neutral and not at all full of rage in the way I presented the facts, but I found that I naturally fell back into the habit of writing inflammatorily. Woe is me.
Excuse no.2 - OH GAWD EXAMS I R TEH STRESED.
P.S. I’m just a cynic who hates everyone and everything if given the smallest excuse. Please, don’t mind me at all.
P.P.S. I’m going to get the first volume of Toshokan Sensou in Chinese when I head back to Hong Kong later this month. Hopefully it’ll make a better impression than the anime. If it doesn’t, I’ll be sure to not tell you
@shikoryuu: gogo! *prods* would love to see someone translate them for the non-Japanese readers.
@issa-sa: and I’ll be right behind you, issa! Cheering you on in your Toshokan Sensou novel journey
No bashing shall ever ruin our love for Toshokan Sensou!
@biankita: well Ocha was pretty fast this week! ep9 = much more total fangurl ep indeed
@Gigi: Agreed~!
@Luppy: lol *pats Luppy*
It’d be great if you could read it, AND enjoy it
oh is it out in Chinese Luppy? didn’t know
