I’m facing a major DVD c-c-risis!
Almost all my life I’ve been so used to pirating watching fansubs that I rarely bother buying the original DVDs. I have a decent job, but I don’t have enough monies to splurge an enormous amount of cash on these otaku goodies, especially DVDs. The only original DVDs I have in my “collection” are the first and final volume of La Corda d’ Oro (LOL), and Tokyo Marble Chocolate. My love for Toshokan Sensou outweighs these two animes by a mile, and I know for a fact that the Toshokan Sensou DVDs will be a worthy addition to my [small] collection, not simply because of the mini-short stories and other thingamabobs that will be included in each volume, but because of the wonderful anime itself.
But again, the real question is, should I splurge cash and pledge my loyalty as a Toshokan Sensou fangurl fanatic by buying these DVDs, or not? Such a tough question.
I’m gonna have to do a bit of calculating to see if I’ll be able to buy these DVDs, considering that I’m also planning to get myself an EEEPC, DS Lite, and a new digicam sometime within the year, on top of some mangas I’m currently following (not that much, but still, an added expense). This shall call for a time of reflection and meditation, all for the sake of controlling my buying impulses.
While my decision to purchase the Toshokan Sensou DVDs is not yet certain, I’m already sure that I’ll be buying it from my favorite online shop HMV, if ever I decide to. This shop is like the next best thing to slice bread for people outside Japan who wants import stuff at affordable prices. They sell the goodies at its standard retail price, sometimes even cheaper than Amazon JP, and their shipping rate is really cheap, approximately 300-900 yen per item, depending on the number of items you have in one shipment. They ship it through EMS, and you get your package 2-3 days after it’s shipped. Coolness. The only limitation of this shop is its lack of available stock for the items they have on sale, so at times you’d have to wait 2-3 weeks before your items become available for shipping. But once they have the items in stock, you’re good to go~
Oh, and good news for you guys in Japan, aside from the goodies included in the first release Toshokan Sensou DVDs, you can also get other bonus giveaways from certain stores when you pre-order the DVDs:
You lucky bastards in Japan, not only will you get gifts from participating in the Banner campaign, you also get to have these goodies! How more unfair can life be
I want the calendar, the pins, the special book case, cover slip, and the bookmark, basically all of ‘em! Sigh. Oh wait, I can haz Toshokan Sensou book cover / cards from Chara-ani
Now if I can have this delivered to my officemate’s hotel in Japan, that’d be real sweet.

“You lucky bastards in Japan”
*sight*
sometimes i wonder why does God hates us…
I’d say forget about the DS Lite and buy the DVDs. Digicams are quite cheap nowadays. DS Lites will probably get cheaper by next year, whereas those DVDs’ prices ain’t gonna drop anytime soon, shipping included.
Actually, I’d say forget the DVDs and buy the DS!!!!
But I don’t even have any anime DVDs …. so I don’t know what good it’ll do
EEEPC? This looks a lot sexier (despite the cost).
If I were you, my priority list would be
(1) DVD’s
(2) EEEPC
(3) DS
I say save up for both if possible…spoiling yourself is good, but it does come with sacrifices. At least that is what I would do
@EvilDevil: can’t be helped that we’re gaijins lol.
@Anonymouse: I’m leaning towards that mentality actually… DS Lite is the least in my priorities now. As for the digicam, I’m aiming for a pseudo-SLR cam, so it’s a little more expensive.
@blissmo: pfft, support the industry! And you still haven’t experienced falling in love with an anime so much to the point of wanting to buy the DVDs and rewatch it to no end, yet… it seems :p
@Lelangir: yes, that is sleek and sexy, but a friend of mine warned me about the HP Pavillion series. And I’m contented with the EEEPC since I just want some sort of “extension” / sidekick(?) of my PC/laptop at home.
@Dando008: well I am saving up for them now, and I’ll get them eventually. All you guys are like encouraging me to buy the DVDs now, and I wonder if I should thank you for that! lol
I want the calendar, even if it’s just Doujou’s page! T_T
I want a DS lite and a digicam too… but I’ll say go for the DVDs first. Re-watching it in it’s DVD glory plus the extra clips is worth it.^^
Oh just buy the DVD!!! You know it will be worth it for you
I’m thinking of getting a cousin who lives in Japan to pre-order one. I’m still thinking thought if I want the tote or the calendar more… CALENDAR!!!
A digital camera is not as expensive as it used to be. Even if you buy a model from a year or two ago, it’s still as good as a newly released one… what matters is the picture, right?
But a DS is a tough call… I’m actually thinking about selling off mine because I have no discipline not to play it. Affects my sleep so I’m usually always cranky. Interested?
@hazy: me toooo, calendarr D:
@biankita: aw you lucky dawg!!
My officemate will be staying in Japan only until August, so there’s no way I can get the tote bag and the calendar which requires pre-ordering the entire 5 volumes
Now if you can go scan the calendar for us, I’ll be verryy happy
oh DS~! It should be the last in my buying list atm, but I *might* just be tempted to buy it with your offer
i’m still thinking about the pre-ordering… i haven’t spoken to that cousin of mine for ages. but i’m close to his parents so that may not be so much of a problem. i’m still computing in peso if i’d be able to afford it but i want it so badly!!! it’s probably an anime i can watch over and over without getting tired of it so it’d be worth the money…
the DS? i’ll PM you the details of the DS in the round-robin forum probably tomorrow. i’m still trying to look into the re-selling price.
@bianks: all it takes is some guts and a thick skin to go “hiya cousin!” then get straight to the point of your intention lol (go FC – feeling close :P). I’m actually a little torn on whether to buy these Japanese DVDs now or wait for it to get licensed… but bah, I can’t wait!
I won’t be able to check out my PM until I get back from my teambuilding trip, will reply as soon as possible after that hehe.
