I just couldn’t afford to have this news as an ‘Aside’ post, this needs as much spotlight as it can.
So while I’m still writing my post with shoujo manga recommendations, in which I was going all “I worship Yoshiki Nakamura ^:)^”, this announcement just had to come at the best possible time, making me reach a state of fangurl nirvana. To those who are not familiar with Skip Beat, it’s a manga by the god Yoshiki Nakamura-sama I mentioned, whose previous work Tokyo Crazy Paradise will forever be in my GREATEST SHOUJO MANGAS Hall of Fame. I fail as a Nakamura fan however, coz I haven’t been catching up with the Awesome Skip Beat!! orz *spanks self*
I was just browsing through my feedreader this morning when I stumbled upon Gia’s news about this “rumor”, which she heard from AnimeSuki regular NeoSam. While Gia thinks it’s just a rumor, I’m telling you now that it’s not. This is even more true than that rumored Skip Beat Taiwan drama, which makes me a really happy fangurl. I checked out moonphase and saw that it’s really in the works. The studio who’ll be producing it will be Hal Film Maker (who’s also behind Aria, Princess Tutu, Pretear, and Boys Be) to be directed by Kiyoko Sayama (director of Pretear, Princess Tutu, and Vampire Knight). And it’s airing this Autumn!! Now is this awesome or what +___+
Autumn 2008 is gonna be GREAT, more so if Ga-Rei and Hakushaku to Yousei will air in this season as well!

First rumors of a Tales of the Abyss anime, and now Skip Beat will be getting one too?! This is indeed a good week
Thanks for passing on the news! It’s great to see more shoujo being animated (especially shoujo as awesome as SB).
I’m…speechless. I better catch up on Skip Beat!
OH. MY. GOD.
This is perhaps the greatest anime news since . . . . . . well, it ranks with every announcement of a Ghibli film.
Narita Ken voiced Ren in the drama CDs (I believe), so here’s hoping he gets it for the anime too! *big Narita Ken fan*
And yes, TCP is an awesome manga, but I think Skip Beat blows it out of the water.
I hope this will be good since it sounds good
You made my day! Awesome news. Although I’d rather have TCP be animated first, since SB is still going on. I don’t want an alternative ending.
I have doubts about the TW drama even though Ariel Lin is portraying Kyoko. But for the anime, I am both terrified and excited. Knowing that Princess Tutu director is at the helm, helps tremendously though.
Thanks for the heads up, usagijen! And L-chan, thanks for pointing me here in the right direction.
An anime!? For Skip Beat!? And to think I was already incredibly excited about the drama. And I absolutely gave up on an anime once Skip Beat broke chapter 100 too! This…is…amazing. Yes, amazing is the only word I can think of to describe this news. Especially since it’s not even being done by a crappy studio.
hmmm…
will probably check this out…
been looking for some shoujo anime lately and fall is a good time too..
being animated by hal only adds to my interest…
i’m probably gonna get it from you since this is supposedly your greatest shoujo manga… i’ve never heard of it.
is it any good? i’ll probably check a volume though if i have time.
@Senna: I wasn’t really excited with Tales of the Abyss because I have yet to play the game! But yeah, awesome anime announcement is awesome. I’m surprised by the number of shoujo titles being animated recently, woohoo!
@L-chan: omgz Ken Naritaa +___+ Yes I’m hoping he’ll be in this anime! Or at least, someone who can still act Ren’s role well. Your Skip Beat pimping is one great contributor as to why I was soo excited with this anime news as I am now! I’ll make sure to read Skip Beat before this airs!
@blissmo: it better be! or else, you can just go check out the manga NOW, and fangurl with us! hehe
@Ten: gia made my day with this news too, to think that this is what I read first thing in the morning
I was apprehensive of the TW drama too, I’m not fond of Ariel Lin as well. I’m not setting much expectations with the anime, but I do hope it will be a decent adaptation, at least. I want TCP to be animated sooo bad… here’s to hoping the success of the Skip Beat anime will make producers decide to invest in a TCP anime!!
@FuyuMaiden: yesh, pure amazing awesomeness
@kaz3phyrous and biankita: you SHOULD check this one out, the manga at least. Like right NOW! bianks, it’s GREAT stuff, it certainly won’t disappoint. The only complaint I heard about Tokyo Crazy Paradise is that it was too short (with 19 volumes!), but still… great.
Jen!! This is it. XDXD Makes my day~~!! Now I’m considering doing a Love Me section pink overalls for cosplay.
OMG!!!
Thanks for the great news! I reallyyy want to see Kyoko’s mini-devils floating all over her LOL. Skip Beat! is one of my favorites!!
KYA!
YEZZZZ! I’m so happy I cant believe it!! Tokyo Crazy Paradise was totally awesome and now with Skip Beat it’s even better
THNX for the news!
I was gonna tell you about this but seems that i’m late xD. Can wait for it D:!
Oh! Where did you leave off in the Manga? There was definitely a lull in the Dark Moon arc, and a little bit afterward (filled with more character development in the side characters, but still as entertaining) but it’s starting to pick up again =) C’mon, it’s Nakamura-sensei! Just keep reading it, she won’t let you down!
OMG!!!!! That is my favourite manga and to hear that there’s gonna be a drama is like…OMG i don’t know how to describe it !!!
@piercing_sword: w00t!!! Make sure to post piccies!!!
@Lyl: I’m barely 1/4 through the manga lol, oh the shame. First thing to do is download the scanlations, then read it
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i can’t wait…i always check the net if the next scan is noww online… I was shock about the drama few weeks ago and hoping that they make the anime firsttt… and now waaaaaaaaaaaa my wish came true hehehe nakakatuwa naman…. ang saya….
@christine: same here lol. Ariel Lin in the drama is…
Apparently the anime for skip beat is going to start airing in October, I think it’s the 4th, but i’m not sure that source is reliable. I truly hope they stick to the storyline, because otherwise it’ll ruin the whole thing. Where did you find out about the drama? I wanna check it out.
usagiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You just made my day!!! This is sooooo awesome!!! I hope we get a tcp anime afterwards!!! it’d be bliss!!!
Now i just want to reread sb from scratch! Too bad i won’t have the time until september T_T_T
Anyway, thx again for the great news!! *chu*
I think the anime will be hilarious
! I will give the drama a chance. Is there anyone else other than me and my school friends who think the taiwanese skip beat drama is better than the japanese? Ella’s facial expressions are amazingly funny! Ariel lin looks too glamourous too be kyoko. You know because Shotaro tells Kyoko she is too boring and plain.
Also I hope they don’t make up and ending for the anime (unless it ends KyokoxSho) because most Shoujo animes nowadays are short and have a shortened ending. I hope they animate it well, because nakamura’s character designs are so detailed.
@ann: I found out about the drama from the soompi forums and/or d-addicts, I haven’t updated myself about it coz I’m not that interested. I’m all focused on the anime now
@galiane: galipon!!!
I’m glad to see you here
I also want to reread Skip Beat from scratch but sigh, work will most likely keep me from doing that until the end of August, September as well T__T
@Lily: I hope they end in one of the manga’s arcs, close it well. There’s plenty of manga material for this one, so I have high expectations for it.
I am SO looking forward to the anime. I squealed like the shameless Skip Beat fangirl I am when I heard the great news. I’m just really, really hoping that they don’t mess it up, AND I’m also hoping that it gets a good number of episodes like Saiunkoku did. The staff seem really great, though (I loved Pretear, and I’ve heard good reviews about many of the other anime they’ve worked on), so things are looking bright.
I wonder if they’ll keep the original cast from the drama cds? Although I didn’t think Kyouko’s seiyuu fit her when I first heard the drama cd, her acting skills were AMAZING. If she DOES get cast as Kyouko again, I’m looking forward to her psychotic SHOU-CHAN NO POSTER SHOU-CHAN NO POSTER SHOU-CHAN NO POSTEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRR~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!! scene. XDXDXD Not to mention Kotoami’s amazing “Mouuuuuuu~~~~~~!!!!”s. :p
Yatta, Skip Beat anime please come soon >.< Can’t wait. And I do agree with most comments that TCP should have been made into an anime first because it’s already completed and has more action scenes which would look great if done well on anime style.
And as for the drama news, geehhh I’m just gonna ignore that if they are casting Ariel Lin and Jerry Yan as the actors. Those 2 totally suck at acting.
On another note, if you guys want skip beat manga, download it on my site. It’s up to v20~ now.
I’ve heard of the Skip Beat manga and it looks good 2 me. The anime will probibly B good 2.
I’m so glad you wrote about this: it took me reading the wiki for SB on a whim and seeing that some of the voice actors from the drama were going to reprise their roles in the anime for me to go “Wait, the ANIME?! =O”
It’ll be an event! I can hardly wait! =D Skip Beat! I’m so excited! X3
I’m glad you confirmed, because I heard that it’s coming out in October of ‘08: I can’t wait! =D
I’ve thought since reading this last year that this manga DESERVED to be animated to show all the full hilarity in just the actions of the characters (especially our beloved Kyoko. I want to see how Sexy Ren is portrayed and how deep of an actor’s voice they got for Lory, because that just NEEDS to come across through sound.
WHOO~! COOL! i do agree that Yoshiki Nakamura sensei is supreme mangaka! Though all~ the comics i had read(i can say it’s really alot..) the best and all times favourite of mine is Tokyo Crazy Paradise!(oh~ tsukasa!) and i seriously love nakamura sensei’s work…SUPERRRR impactful one! she show and not tell unlike some mangaka… CHEERS FOR HER, YEAH?! XD:lol:
@MEH!: Yoshiki Nakamura started becoming a “legendary mangaka” starting with TCP, then Skip Beat which topped off TCP. More power to her indeed!
I’m so excited though i might have to wait a while to see it. Damn its’s no fair….it needs to air in the U.S as well… i dont want to have even longer know that i know its coming out.
not really into anime and shit but since ariel and jerry is gonna be in it, i’d thought i’d check it out. no other race will ever be
“good” enough to play any of you japs “fake ass anime” characters! you japs should make a law where you don’t sell your “animes” to other races to make it LIVE!!!! then this shit wouldn’t exist! don’t like the leads, don’t watch it when the time comes…go watch the anime version for christ sake! i’m rooting for this…ariel is super cute and jerry is hella hot, perfect for ren!
@sarah: anime and shit, yeah right. FYI, this “fake ass anime/manga” is the roots of many second-grade Taiwan dramas that people like you oh so lurvvvv. Be grateful, at the very least. Also, it’s not that “no other race will be good enough to play” these anime/manga series, it’s just that most actors and actresses in Taiwan dramas is a miscast. That, or the writing itself is screwed.
Wanna see a great live-action adaptation? Look at Nodame Cantabile. Mars is also a good live-action adaptation. But overall, 99% of Taiwanese adaptations are subpar. That simply means that these dramas rarely live up to the challenge of adapting the original material, which is understandably, difficult to do indeed. That is, of course, what we anime/manga elitists see, since we can’t stand seeing the characters we love butchered.
and yes, feel free to fap at uncute Ariel Lin and no-acting-skills monotonic Jerry Yan for all I care. Then we’ll also fap at the manga/anime we love.
i already watched skip beat anime ep 2 im waiting for next =]
Wooh! One of the greatest news ever. lol
Actually i had alreadyfound out about it in the latest chapter of skip beat, it was writen there.
