Partial view of the crapload of mangas I bought
So yesterday I went to Manga Kissa, a local manga cafe in our area which is now closing down because their contract in the Philippines has ended (or so said the lady in the counter, or was she the manager?), whose existence I never really knew about until I heard about it from Zeroblade orz. I’m not really up-to-date with the local anime/manga scene so it’s not surprising that I never knew about this .___.;;;
In line with this, they put all their mangas and magazines for sale, a clearance sale of some sort, from 50 pesos (roughly 1.10 USD) when they first announced this closing down news in this year’s ToyCon, to 20-30 pesos a piece (roughly 0.5 USD). I wasn’t really expecting anything when I headed out for my little manga-shopping adventure, so imagine my surprise and shock when I saw the piles of mangas there. It felt like I was in a mini Mandarake!!
On the left corner! I saw SaiKano, and a few volumes of Greenwood. GRAB. There were also a few scattered One Piece, Naruto, Ppoi and HatsuKare volumes, as well as Hareluya Boy, etc. but I wasn’t really interested in those (Thank God).
And on the right corner! Behold, the shoujo mangas *__* There was a complete set of Basara, KareKano, Koucha Ouji, Kare First Love, Baby Love, Alexandrite, 18 volumes of Perfect Girl Evolution, some mangas by Waki Yamato, among others. When I saw Basara… I was mesmerized. It’s one of my ultimate fave mangas, which I still have to get my lazy ass to write a noteworthy review about, so yeah, I grabbed the entire 27-volume set .____.;; If I still don’t have the entire set of Alexandrite I might have bought that too
And if Tokyo Crazy Paradise or Skip Beat was there, I would’ve grabbed them instead of Basara. Once I get rid of my HanaKimi and My MVP Valentine chinese mangas (interested buyers can just contact me
), or the Vampire Knight japanese manga even, I might just go purchase the entire TCP set which I’ve been dreaming of for years now.
It was a real affordable deal, considering that the mangas were still in good condition. They’re second hand, so discolored pages and some scratches on the cover is to be expected, but the quality is good nonetheless. No pages were torn, all pages are clean, etc. I might just resell these mangas if I plan to buy the bunko versions of these old school classics instead, so as early as now, if anyone is interested in these stuff I bought, feel free to contact me and buy them from me
Carrying these pile of mangas were such a pain. Imagine carrying about 40 volumes of manga, along with my commute adventures. My arms still hurt =__=”’ This is what I get for buying these stuff without thinking of the consequences T__T
And in case anyone is wondering about the rest of the mangas I saw, there was also 22 volumes of Blade of the Immortal, Kaze Hikaru, Shin Angyo Onshi (complete set I think), City Hunter, etc. Oh and note that all the mangas are in Japanese.
I don’t really pay attention to the anime/manga shops around my place either COS THERE IS NONE
Hey, I just found out from my other friend too lol
But man, SaiKano was there? I need to buff up my kanji skills
If they have such a cheap deal in Singapore, I will probably buy the whole house down. I am not joking ^^
lol @ the “aching arms” comment.
Well, congrats for the huge haul. May the joy of owning (and reading) them ease your pain ^_^
@Zeroblade: I was actually surprised that no one bought SaiKano yet, but thanks to that I got them! (but ouch, added baggage)
@Impz: Wow Impz, I can imagine you going super otaku berserk mode with that! I wonder what will happen to you once you get to Mandarake in Japan
@Mentar: lol yeah, I believe they’re worth the pain muscles. It’s additional “weights” for the exercise I had too, so it’s still good? lol.
Whoa whoa whoa, do you mean 50 cents or half a cent?
wow,,,, 40 manga,,, i would love tat!! could i buy some of you hanakimi books?????
thanksss
@jpmeyer: ack retarded blooper. It’s 50 cents >.<
@Cherry: oh wait I forgot to mention in my post that I was hoping the prospective buyers will be from the Philippines, coz I don’t really know how to handle shipping stuff and all that
I suck, so yeah
Wow! That’s awesome. Like Blissmo there ain’t no manga shops in my area. I once found an online seller selling Basara (yep, it’s awesome) but that was $40 in shipping alone o_o
There were volumes of Blade of the Immortal?! I didn’t see them ;_;
But I got Densha Otoko and the lone volume of Tantei Gakuen Q (for my sister — who incidentally got KareKano yesterday).
Waaah~ I hope there will be another manga cafe that will open soon!
whoa, whoa… i didn’t even know about this and i was in the same toycon
i fail. are they still having the clearance sale??? or have they already closed???
Damn girl! Around 40 mangas? You must be doing some good service to yo sugar daddy for dat doh yo! (jkjkjk XD, but man, 50 cents for manga! Wish there were more Otaku Garage sales around here… or manga cafes for that matter… wait, I take that back! Too many manga cows!)
… on the subject of Certified Gangsterism, I don’t think you meant half a cent or 50 cents… but: 50 CENT
@Saya: that’s just crazy O__O You can get them for a cheaper deal somewhere else, you just have to know where to look.
@clair: yeah, Blade of the Immortal is in the その他 section, at the back corner hehe. Shin Angyo Onshi is in the same section.
@biankita: the sale is until today! so gogogo! they’re open till 10pm I think.
@Jesus159: for 50cents a piece it’s not even enough for my sugar daddy, not that I have such anyways
But you guys have Book Offs there in the US! I envy you for that hehehe.
(I can’t watch the youtube video atm, it’s blocked in the office x__x)
thanks, usagijen ^^ *heading there now after dragging out friends…*
That’s awesome
The first time I went into a BookOff (in Japan; there are none in my area in the U.S.
), I was shocked by all the delicious manga (and ended up buying all 10 heavy Please Save My Earth bunkos, which made my suitcase overweight — but it was so worth it!).
@biankita: hope you managed to grab a truckload of mangas or something
@Senna: I can totally feel with you. To think that I only went to Mandarake where the prices of the mangas is not as cheap as those in BookOff, and I managed to grab the entire Cipher bunko and some other bunkos by Yumi Tamura… I’m just glad the one I was with during the trip had some extra baggage weight to I sort of used it up
Oh no… What have you done. Well, I guess this won’t hurt you that much with the upcoming promotion and your massively big JLPT bonus every month. But 40 mangas? You know, you are almost an insanely impulsive buyer.
@Seleria: B-b-but it’s only 25 petots a piece! That price is insane!
I’d be more insane if I bought all this at its original price
is manga kissa still open for their sale or are they closed now??? i feel REALLY SAD coz my office is just near manga kissa and yet, i didnt even know they were closing and even had a manga sale! imgne!! 25p per volume??? now thats paradise…
@kaz: According to Khursten, you can probably still contact the manager and inquire about it, they most likely have some stocks of mangas left. You can also check out their multiply site and contact them through there. Best of luck!
but the manga’s they’re selling are the japanese ones, right? Not the english versions…
not bad for the haul. I also remember buying 40-50 volumes of manga last year… Oo mabigat yun, but i think mas magaan ang mga tokyopop and viz manga.

@ning: yeah, japanese ones. I think they have some English ones too, but those were the first to have become sold out, most likely
Not sure if the VIZ and Tokyopop mangas are lighter, most of the ones I see are even bigger than their original Japanese counterparts!
actually, i called manga kissa before the sale and it seems that they would not be selling the english versions, yung jap lang. I experienced the weight difference sa Chuang Yi actually, mas mabigat ang 5 CY kesa 5 tokyopop. Btw, post ka namang ng mga pics ng whole collection mo.. Or andito na and i just haven’t seen it
… hmmm, will look for it
