Hello Old-school Animes, Hello Summer

In line with my anticipated upcoming summer animes, I decided to watch Birdy the Mighty OVA, as well as a little of Aika and City Hunter (both of which I intend to compare with Yakushiji Ryouko). Now I’m totally hyped for Birdy the Mighty!! It’s a great show, certainly won’t disappoint. I love the antics of the 2-in-1 Tsutomu-Birdy, and despite having a little hope of a romance budding between these two, I think they’re just gonna be partners for life because there’s another girl in Tsutomu’s life. Episode 3 made me love that girl Natsumi as well. The mix of action and comedy is great, with some cool scifi human cyborg genetic mutation stuff too. This show totally rocks my socks.

As for Aika, UGH. The action scenes seemed to have been included in this show simply for the sake of pandering, showing panty shots in each and every kicks and low camera angle. Even in their battered state you see them BARE IT ALL (well, almost). Thanks to that, I can assure people that Yakushiji Ryouko is nothing like that crap Aika. Yakushiji Ryouko gives me City Hunter vibes, and my City Hunter rewatch just reaffirmed that. Now I feel like watching the entire City Hunter series!

(Since the feed syndicating plugins I’ve been using all seem to have issues of their own, I just decided to manually cross post stuff I post on MAL, or even twitter, here)

  1. Almost every single episode of City Hunter is pretty much the same, but for some reason it never got old for me. I loved all of City Hunter (TV series, specials, movies, etc.) and definitely think it’s a great “summer” show to watch. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

  2. @nckl: I might just watch it alongside other summer animes this season, depends on the number of summer animes that catches my eye perhaps. I’m looking forward to enjoying City Hunter as well! It probably won’t hurt to watch it in ’small dosages’, from time to time ^^

  6. @blissmo: yes you should!! It’s real fun, quite a real good mix of comedy, kickass action, a little drama and romance. The plot isn’t half-baked too, like the TS anime perhaps.

@issa-sa: I’m just gonna name that kiss show “Ryouko - the girl with the kickass heels” or something, that’ll be easier to remember :P

@Baka-Raptor: LOL, I love Ryo especially when he’s serious. I just wonder if he ever got to hook up with Kaori by the end of this series!
