I just came out of the cinema hours ago, watched the movie Wanted with my brother so I get to watch it for free >:), and I have only three words to describe it: BLOODY. FUCKING. AWESOME. Beware of foul language, this post might as well be rated R-13 (like the movie) because of this profanity.
Wanted was one heck of an adrenaline rush ride. Feel every jab, kick, slash, and gun shot permeate through your very skin. Feel every drip of blood with every bit of action. Feel the rush of excitement in the car chase scenes, bullet collisions, and just about everything, with heightened senses too, thanks to bloody damn good motion SFX and the natural skills of our assassins. It’s not as morbid as I make it sound like, it’s just bloody damn exciting!
I might just be babbling nonsense here so let me provide a brief background of the story. We have here the young man Wesley Gibson, an apathetic nobody living a f*cked up life just about every day. On top of trying to work as an “account manager” with a damn noisy haughty boss, the primary source of his anxiety attacks, he also has a “best friend” who f*cks up with his girlfriend and takes advantage of his kindness (or patheticness) for his own convenience. He wakes up every morning, with his girlfriend by his side, he goes to work, face his computer screen and his damn boss, live a f*cked up shitty life, rinse and repeat.
All that changes the moment his path crosses with The Fraternity of assassins, who suddenly revealed to him that he’s the son of the recently-assassinated Mr. X, one of the best assassins ever known. After a hell lot of training in the hands of the other Fraternity members, he finally finds a clear purpose in life – to avenge the death of his father, by killing the assassin Cross. His life became less meaningless, but all the more f*cked up and bloody exciting.
Now, you might have heard this premise in a number of shows, but as we all know, plot originality is overrated, and Wanted gives this its own distinct flavor, with mindfuckingly brilliant plot twists as well. Bloody awesome mindfuck. If only I had a wider vocabulary, I would be spouting more bloody praises for this show, and not rehash these bloody words, but since I neglected reading most of my life, bear with me as I exclaim “BLOODY AWESOME” for who knows how many times. Unless you want me to use another language with which I can go “すげえ!最高!!” , “太棒了!” Hear me rawr!
Spiderman can step aside with his spider sense and let the assassins of this movie do their thing. These guys might not be as agile and strong as our friendly superhero, but the way the action scenes were choreographed leaves Spidey in shame, in Spiderman 3 that is. Juxtaposed with Spiderman 3, Wanted is clearly the winner. May Stan Lee or the director of the Spiderman 3 movie forgive me for this bashing. Having no convoluted and lame plot, Wanted also boasts hard-pumping and fast-paced action in just about every second. It was so damn fast that it didn’t leave me room to think about the plotholes and other glitches, not that I care about them anyways. All I know is that I left the movie theatre fully satisfied, and hours after watching it I still felt the rush of excitement running through my veins, and voila! From the burst of inspiration I had with my adrenaline rush experience comes this review.
I highly recommend this movie, especially fans of hard-pumping action looking for thrill and excitement in the shows they watch. But do take note that this show is not for weaklings. It’s violent, it’s bloody, but bloody awesome as well.
P.S. Perhaps you might be wondering what the fuck is up with this post full of the F-word. Only those who didn’t watch this movie will be left bewildered as to why this is f*ck-loaded. If you haven’t done so, what are you waiting for?! Go watch this movie, not at the cozy comfort of your home but in theatre, so you can get the entire “feel” of it. So going back to the question, what the fuck have you done lately?
P.P.S. To make this post not 100% non-anime related, I just like to say that the way Fox (played by Angelina Jolie) busted her way into the fast-moving train with her car in the latter part of the movie reminded me so much of the car-chase-and-Kuhoin-busting scene in Kurenai episode 12. Fox’s smooth driving skills was just awesome, more awesome than Benika, even.
Fuck Yeah!
Yeah, that movie was pretty cool. I didn’t like the sex scenes though.
Ugh yeah, the sex scenes was off. The movie could’ve done without them
There isn’t even a trailer for this show in Melbourne yet ;_;
The plot does sound a little dry to me but if the action sequences are that good, it makes sense for a summer movie. Maybe I’ll get to see it this year?
@blissmo: *pats* >_<
@Caitlin: the action sequences were really cool, and the transformation of the lead guy from a zero (or a total negative even) to a cool merciless assassin was just awesome.
Huh? What sex scene?? Grr censors >.<
I take it this is another one of those “Zero to Hero” -> Hero discovers conspiracy -> Hero finds Freedom.
Amirite or do I fail?
@faye: I kinda wish those sex scenes were censored, they were surprising and out-of-place
@C.I.: hmm, yes but not quite? Generally speaking it follows that kind of pattern, but things aren’t as simple as it might seem. I was pleasantly caught in surprise with the plot twists in the show, and the awesome action sequences easily make up for some of its cliche rehashes :3
>>I have only three words to describe it: BLOODY. FUCKING. AWESOME.
WHAT. I can’t belive I actually see you trolling.
[Pseudo spoiler] LOL I loved it too! Although =) I usually tell everyone to walk away before the last three minutes or so or whatever/however long it takes to get away from the really bad dialogue at the end -.-; I don’t know about you, but even though the end wrapped it up “nicely,” the dialogue totally killed the royally badass nature of the movie. I mean, I was totally on an adrenaline high after he escaped from his one man suicide mission and then it takes a turn for the worst by ending with that cheesy “you’re still a nerd in a cubicle after all of this badassness” =(
@LDC: sorry for being out-of-character? Don’t worry, I rarely become like this
@LyL: haha, I didn’t really mind that part. The next scenes caught me in a great surprise so who cares about the cheesy line before that. What got stuck in my mind was the “So what the fuck have you done lately?” line in the last part
Just a note: This film doesn’t make any bloody sense!
But yeah otherwise it’s pretty awesome with some great action, choreography, bullet-time and special effects. In straining to reference animé, this has a plot like Noir with Animatrix slow motion effect and Code Geass plot twists.
I’d also like to know if anyone else noticed how badly cut the train scenes were as the filming changed from electrified raillines to plain railline? Nobody who went to see it with me noticed, so I might have imagined it…
I’m agree with the
thing .
Here’s my review :
Brutally magnificent , a ‘bomb’ to all of the 2008 summer movies I have ever watched .
The story itself is about the ‘very comical’ clan named ‘The Fraternity’ contained the whole Oscar Actors in this movie . The Fraternity is a clan with job of its members to kill a destiny person , with motto : Kill one save thousand .
This brutal , full of intrigues, action pack movie with breathtaking gun shots and explodes .
Angelina and James ruled the movie . James just very ‘cute’(in other meaning) and very unpredictable . Angelina was very less talking and she’s the only most protrude’ woman here , then is Janice ( The fat boss with the staples ) , even with less voice(Just like Malena Scordida in movie ”Malena”) Jolie still could compete with other great actors here .
My friends said that this movie directing just way too Wachowsky a.k.a. Matrix . But , i haven’t seen the Matrix yet so i can’t say Timur Bekmambetov only a copycat . Well , i ever watched a ’slow motion type’ movie , Final Fantasy : advent children , when i compared them , Wanted is way too far above it .
When i’m out of the cinema i felt a really big satisfaction , this comical movie is the best 2008 summer movie so far .
@Teeif: haha yes it didn’t really make [common] sense, but it sure tickled our other senses, enough to not care about the nonsensical stuff in the movie
and lol @ train, yeah I only thought about it now, in my calm state
The ones who saw it with you (as well as me) failed in noticing it because our mind went blank with its coolness or something
@on.the.nine: awesome review!
originality is overrated, really. I remember one review saying that this movie took most of the good stuff and cliche in other films, and made this one heck of a kickass movie out of ‘em
LOVE THE ACTIOn. .. LOVE the Thrill. . .
Other than that. . .My brain hasn’t register the cheesiness yet. .. lOL
@Paj: same here
just watched it an hour ago..
this movie is just awesome!!!
and luv the last scene.!!!!
