The REAL Skip Beat Seiyuu Cast

Disclaimer: Forgive my hot-headedness, but I think it’s fair to say that despite my claims of this being an official news, it won’t be considered to be so until I get a scan of the news snippet from Hana to Yume.

Good news people (at least to those who found this new cast to be good), this news has been confirmed by several Japanese bloggers I’ve seen around the net in my lurk today. We can’t possibly go wrong with Japanese fans who have actual copies of Hana to Yume raving over this news now, right? I’m still on the lookout for more official news on this one, for those who still deem this to be unreliable.

Ok, so I don’t know who the heck gave ANN the heads up for the Skip Beat anime seiyuu lineup they have, or how they found out that Rina Satou and Koyasu Takehito will be playing as Kyoko and Ren, respectively. But one thing’s for sure: they’re booboos. Sorry to burst your bubble dear Skip Beat fans who already got excited with this false “rumor” about the Skip Beat seiyuu cast T__T I am sooo disappointed in you, ANN. Dear Wikipedia, please correct your anime seiyuu information too. – The Undersigned. –> I’m too lazy to edit the Wiki page atm.

The _REAL_ seiyuu cast for the anime (except for Ren, whose seiyuu remains a mystery at this point) has been announced in the latest Hana to Yume issue, and I am SOO happy with the seiyuus they chose :D It made me all giddy and excited, unlike the previously mis-announced seiyuu cast.

Kyoko will be played by the lovely and talented Inoue Marina, who voiced Iku of Toshokan Sensou. Shou will be played by Miyano Mamoru, which I deem to be fit for his role of being a mix of a dope and serious kind of guy. Yashiro will be played by Kawanago Masahito, who I don’t know much about. Kanae, aka, “Moko”, will be played by Risa Hayamizu, seiyuu of Kumiko Yamaguchi in the Gokusen anime.

Ren’s seiyuu won’t be announced till the next issue of Hana to Yume, what a bummer. So much for keeping us at the edge of our seats!

And that’s about it. I hope the Skip Beat fans will now be enthralled with this officially announced seiyuu cast ;)

  1. I’m so glad to hear this. While I like those VAs, I just couldn’t “hear” it. Especially Koyasu as Ren. Just no.

  2. Well, that’s a strong enough casting for the main characters (? Sorry, don’t know much about Skip Beat, nor about the last 2 seiyuu)

  3. Anime blogs – a much more valid source! Mwahaha.

  4. Eh, the earlier cast info on ANN was added by somebody random without a proper source & probably based on some random 2channel gossip anyway so er… I’ve removed it (but it won’t show up immediately) There’s a 1,000,001 errors in the DB that us sad encyclopedia editors can’t spot with our grubby little eyes

As of yet, I’ve not seen the official word (like, a scan or news piece) 100% confirming the supposed lineup of Inoue etc so er.. anyone with concrete proof, show it so I can add the data to ANN (& stop ppl beating us up over stuff we can’t control) :o

  5. @tatsuko: yeah, I really hope they get someone other than Koyasu Takehito for Ren *crosses her fingers*

@issa-sa: I don’t know much about the last two seiyuus either, but knowing that the last seiyuu voiced Yankumi is good enough XD

@totali: hey now, I did get my news from a reliable source you know! :P

@j1mone: It’s just sad that people don’t take extra caution when adding those info. They have to know the consequences of their actions =/ I hope I can get a scan of the latest Hana to Yume issue so this will be really ‘official’.

  6. Lol, I was also fooled by the wrong info. Thanks for the post ^^.

  7. Aah, Miyano again? :/ I loved him in Wolf’s Rain and Ouran, but I’m getting seriously tired of him now. He always seems to use the same voice… (sorry, fans)

Ah well. I’m not a fan of this manga, but I plan to check out the anime. Only… why Miyano? *sigh*

  8. @kuromitsu
Death the Kid is perfect as Shou, the role is practically written for him.
    @usagijen
Please, post the scans or link to your info source.

  9. This is kind of too bad. I thought the cast that was first announced would have fit all the characters just fine – and I was especially looking forward to hearing Rina Satou in a role that could really have made her shine. Ah well, I’ll be able to hear her lots this fall anyway, in To aru Majutsu no Index for instance.

But I’m not that disappointed since Marina Inoue is nothing short of awesome either. Iku of course immediately comes to mind when imagining how she might make Kyoko sound, which isn’t a bad thing by any means. Sadly, kuromitsu has perfectly voiced my view on Mamoru Miyano… :(

  10. @kanzeon: please wait a few days before posting this info, I have to get the scan of HtY first, just to be 100% sure.

@SinsI: And yes I shall do that, hope I can post scans and links by August 5, when the HtY magazine comes out to the market. I got the info from someone who subscribes to the magazine and hence got it 2-3 days in advance.

@kuromitsu and Katapan: Well, I have yet to grow weary of Miyano Mamoru’s voice, but still, I think that the voice he used in his past seiyuu roles would be fit for Shou. In the end, it’s not just about the seiyuu, but the character of the one he’s portraying itself. Give Miyano Mamoru another chance? A little dose of voice amnesia might help, so we could be less attached to his previous roles and view this portrayal as a new one :)

  11. Ah. *is pissed* What the heck is up with ANN? A site called “Anime News” can’t even get their news right? :x

Well, at least these seiyuu make me so much happier. That definitely makes up for it. I look forward to Miyano Mamoru as Shou. He’s good at being a jerk.

    Posted by FuyuMaiden | August 4, 2008, 1:00 am
  12. Well, on the drama CDS Ren was voiced by Narita Ken. We can hope?

Miyano Mamoru as Shou? Hey, it fits! He can use his Tamaki voice for when he’s a spaz, his Kid voice for when he’s being more serious, and his Light voice for when he’s being a jackass. I thought that Tomokazu Seki would be a perfect fit for Shou (he’s like the king of spazzing teen boys), but Miyano works too!

Koyasu Takehito is always a welcome addition, but I agree that he shouldn’t be Ren. Ren isn’t . . . . eccentric enough for Koyasu to fit. If they do include him, I think they should use him for Reino of V Ghoul. Then he can play Kyouko’s creepy stalker.

  13. I think Miyano as Shou will be perfect! In fact, I’m already imagining some of his scenes from the manga with Miyano’s voice XD

In terms of Inoue Marina, at first, I thought, “Oh, that’ll be strange,” since while she has a pretty voice and a wide vocal range, I usually recognize her voice due to a certain quality it has. However, now that I think about it, that recognizable trait is how her voice sounds refined and fits my mental image of an ojou-sama. That’s totally Kyoko XD I-It’s perfect! I can’t wait to verify this~

  14. Oh noes. Miyano as Shou. sowee…but I can’t imagine him as Shou.
I’m not a fan but LOL he seems to use the same tone of voice..I hope that he can show Shou’s character this time. I’m glad they didn’t cast him as Ren YAY!

  15. When I saw that in ANN, I started looking somewhere, ANYWHERE that can verify that the casting were right.
I checked the Japanese Wiki for Skip Beat but it wasn’t there at all.
I checked it again on the 4th of August and they were finally posted! :-)
That’s how I found out that Marina Inoue and Mamoru-chama will be voicing their respective roles. ^_^
Hayamizu-san, I know her, she voice a char from Druaga. ^^
Kawanago-san I dunno though. Lawl xD Hopefully you’ll find out who’s Ren’s seiyuu quicker so this time I’m checking your blog when the 20th’s near. :’p

    About Koyasu-san…
I thought it was weird that he was the one chosen for Ren…
good thing it was a false news.
No matter how much I’d love to hear Koyasu-san’s voice for his role, I can’t accept it. D:
It would sound weird. He has a really deep voice after all.
Although he’s still one of my fave seiyuus. (I really wanted him to voice Chairman Cross in Vampire Knight..D: )

Who I really feel would fit Ren’s role is Morikawa Toshiyuki-san. ^w^ Hehe
His voice is surprising that I don’t doubt he can’t make a proper voice for Ren’s role.
    Oh yea! :’D Btw..
don’t worry about Wiki and ANN.
After finding about it, I quickly edited them xD Someone has to correct them after all, before anyone sees it! :’o

  16. Waaaa! Im soo happy its almost here^^ Too bad we don’t know who will be Ren, but its soon to come out. Thnx :o

  17. @FuyuMaiden: I was really pissed when I found out about their booboo too, but that anger somehow subsided now and I managed to cool off my head ^^; Miyano Mamoru is perfect the somewhat narcissistic Shou too :P

@L-Chan: yes, until the next issue of Hana to Yume, we can continue to remain hopeful~ You’ve summed up how Miyano Mamoru can really play Shou well. I’d have to agree with Koyasu Takehito as the V.Ghoul (Beagle? lol) guy too XD *suddenly has vivid images of the creepy stalking scene *hrrr* *

@flou: same here. I hope the ones disappointed with this change will change their minds sooner or later, for the better :D

@ame: L-chan has shown exactly how Miyano Mamoru will be able to portray Shou well :p

@Wija-chan: I haven’t heard much of Morikawa Toshiyuki, except for his role as Dante, which I can’t really remember that much. But if you say he could fit Ren well, then yoshi, I’ll be happy if he or Ken Narita is casted. Junichi Suwabe is fine too~

@Claricandyxd: yeah, let’s count the days till the 20th of August! :D

  18. You know, after watching Vampire Knight and Special A, I kinda don’t want this manga to turn into an anime or a drama! They’ll ruin the image for sure… I’m so sad.

Skip Beat is not a episodic manga. Even if it is, it is looong. I don’t want it to turn into a stupid anime!

I just wish they finish the manga with justice and leave it alone. Yahh.

  19. I wonder how’s the graphics of the anime.
Is it going to be as interesting as the manga,
or like others anime, a disappointment in it?

  20. Ren’s seiyuu has been chosen. The official source is here:
    http://www.saiani.net/article/101072933.html
(which is the series official website.)

    Don’t speak Japanese? Try here:
    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10091

    or here:
    http://www.tvrage.com/shows/id-19619

He will be played by Katsuyuki Konishi.

BTW… This was announced in early June.

    Posted by Nishikaze | August 29, 2008, 5:03 am
  21. Ignore my above post the Japanese page doesn’t list the seiyuu, however all the other information on ANN has been correct since July 27th, well before the above post.

I can actually prove this… but it would involve screen shots.

    Posted by Nishikaze | August 29, 2008, 5:23 am
  22. @Nishikaze: By “all other information on ANN…” you mean the other info besides the seiyuu? The seiyuu info is the only correction I pointed out here, the rest are correct, as you’ve also said. There’s absolutely no way they could’ve done that wrong since the staff info was posted in MOONPHASE way back when the anime was announced.

If, on the other hand, you’re saying that even the seiyuu info was correct way back July 27, well I don’t know whatever anomaly happened, but I honestly don’t think my eyes were mistaken when I saw the incorrect seiyuu info on ANN last August 3. j1m0ne even took down the seiyuu infos down because of this. I noticed the change in the ANN seiyuu lineup only after a week or two.

About Ren’s seiyuu, I already mentioned it (and my thoughts about it) in a later blog post. The english page you linked mentions “Koyasu Takehito” as Ren’s seiyuu btw, and that I believe was the false seiyuu information spread since June. As far as I know, the official announcement about the anime cast was only announced in the issue released last August 5, not including Ren’s seiyuu. Katsuyuki Konishi’s casting as Ren was only announced on the issue released on August 20.

The japanese page you linked is just a semi-official blog post about the Skip Beat anime. The official anime homepage is still not up, the last time I checked MOONPHASE the other day.
