Looks like this news came out real early, like way back 5 or so days ago. Katsuyuki Konishi is casted as Ren! I know people are having mixed feelings over this news, and those who already had this image of Ren (with their ideal seiyuu to boot) are especially disappointed.
I’d like to think that I’m a bit on the “yay!” side with this one. I was trying to recall Katsuyuki Konishi’s voice as Soubi (Loveless), Ousaki-sempai (La Corda d’ Oro), etc., and it initially didn’t quite fit the supposedly ‘image’ I had of Ren. But then I read the manga, and started imagining how it would seem like with Katsuyuki Konishi’s voice, and I actually found it fitting for his snarky, somewhat egotistic yet gentle character.
I know we have several expectations for the seiyuu of Ren, and each of us are entitled to our own opinions, whether we disapprove of this casting or not. But I really think we need to rid ourselves of the preconceived image we have of the character and whatever biases we have to be able to accept this announcement. There’s nothing we can do about it anyways, so why not look at the brighter side of things? I don’t want to judge this as a miscast, especially not until the anime has aired. And I honestly think it could’ve been worse.

I think I’m on the “yay!” side too, because every role I’ve heard Katsuyuki Konishi in has been so different from the others. Ren’s an actor has so many different parts of his personality after all. In just a single chapter Kyoko discovers about five different “faces” of Ren.
I can see why people are being cautious too, but I always thought a bunch of people were bound to be disappointed by whoever was chosen to play Ren. He’s a really difficult character to cast. I was almost hoping they chose some unknown seiyuu who just happened to fit Ren perfectly because I couldn’t think of anyone who could play him. But right now I’m satisfied and feeling optimistic about all of the casting.
You know…back when Miyano-san was revealed to be Shou and that Ren’s seiyuu wouldn’t be revealed until the 20th…I started making a list in my head of who would make a great Ren. On my list was Morikawa Toshiyuki, Inoue Kazuhiko, Konishi Katsuyuki, Sakurai Takahiro (maybe) and Sugita Tomokazu.
I am actually very excited that Konishi Katsuyuki was picked to play Ren. He is an incredible voice actor who has such much versatility. He plays a strong, serious character like Kyo from Samurai Deeper Kyo and Haji from Blood+ to comcial characters like Komui from D.Grayman. If anyone can portary the various personalities that Ren has…it would be Konishi-san. I have the uptmost confidence in him.
I think the overall main cast will do a good job. As usual, Mamo-kun will play a charming blonde again ^_^.
Aaah~
True, there’s nothing we can do about it.
Man! D:
Those stupid judges were lucky to listen to all those awesome seiyuus auditioning right in front of them!
I’d be ecstatic to be just sitting around and listening!
Lawl
Maa~
I think at one point in time, I thought about Konishi-san for the role of Ren, but it was just a pass by.
Didn’t clique to me. -shrugs-
Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m thinking maybe I’m jinxed or something. >_>
The same thing happened with Marina-san…eehh~ but I never thought they’d be taken! D:
The only thing different is that he’s not an actor.)
Why not Morimori? I mean…seriously.
He had the perfect voice.
He can use his serious Tyki Mikk (or his Masumi Hayami) voice for Ren. -shrugs- He has versatile voice after all.
(Also…Masumi is like another Ren, but from another anime.
Hmmm…maybe he didn’t audition…D:
Bad bad Mori-tan. lawl
Anyways~
I’m just crossing my fingers about this and hoping that everything will turn out right. Not quite what I would have expected but something that can make me feel like something wasn’t off.
NOW! To wait for days and more days for that trailer!
KoniTan was on my list of possible Ren’s too. Now that I think about it, he’ll do a really perfect Ren. So I’m on the “Yay!” side too … even though I was rooting for Suwabe before. >_< I’m going to pray the trailer gives us some voices … or Mamo-chan’s singing.
@FuyuMaiden: hehe yeah, I have faith in Katsuyuki Konishi!
He’s versatile enough to fit this role ^-^ (or could it be that I’m just biased for him? lol)
@kokorospirit1: *high fives*
@kanzeon: charming blonde?! Shou?!
More like dumb egotistic shallow blonde bastard, I should say
@Wija-chan: Let’s just hope the cast will do well so this current wave of apprehension from fans will eventually subside ^^
@saimaisama: I also wanted to hear Suwabe as Ren too, hear his sexy voice rofl. But I’m glad that Katsuyuki Konishi was chosen
@wija-chan: Honestly, I wanted Morikawa Toshiyuki casted as Ren a little bit more than Konishi Katsuuki, but both of them were my top 2. Tyki’s voice would have been great for Ren. But I think the best seiyuu was chosen for Ren. No complaints from me.
@usagijen: *high fives back* I agree with you to some extent about Shou. Most of the times he is really egotistical and shallow, but sometimes, and I mean sometimes, he does show that he is capable of thinking about someone other than himself. The problem I am having now is that since my future husband, Miyano Mamoru is going to play Shou, I’m probably going to start liking Shou simply because of his voice.
I’m so excited for this anime and I can’t wait until October!!
Shou is wisely portrayed as not just being another egotistical jerk (it’s so easy to make a villain evil and leave it at that), and he’s a blast to read/watch (my personal fave moment is when he’s alone fantasizing about Kyouko and Ren being raburabu and throwing hissy fits over it), but so far his slowly emerging conscience isn’t nearly enough to make up for what he’s done in the past. If he ever seriously wants Kyouko back, he’s gonna have to do some gargantuan repentance.
It’s easy to enjoy him as a character though, because even though he wants to be thought of as this ultra-cool guy, we the readers all know he’s really a giant dork.
But back on topic, I too was hoping for Morikawa for Ren, but when you look at the versatility of Konishi, you really can’t complain.
@kokorospirit1: well Shou actually cares for Kyoko, he’s just too dense and full of himself to admit that lol. Mamo as your future husband, rofl! Now you’re saying it like Kyoko, imagining Shou as her prince xDD I’m not really weak against Miyano Mamoru’s voice so I won’t fall for him just because of that, mwahaha. I can just hate him and laugh at him for being a silly dork.
@L-chan: oh yeah, that Kyoko x Ren imagination he had was hilarious. I actually wish he’d have more of that imagination so we can get our fill of Kyoko x Ren “fanarts” along the way
And I’m just hoping for the best for the anime~!
@usagijen: Lol, I actually remembered Kyrie on that ’shallow blonde dumb bastard’ thing! And I personally found Shou’s character enjoying to read! …And about that ‘charming blonde’… that was on the outside.. not the inside.
@usagijen: Yes I do have a soft spot for my future husband. I can’t help it. I fell in love with him when I first heard him as Kiba from Wolf’s Rain and ever since then I have come to love him more and more. Tamaki from Ouran Host Club, Zero from Vampire Knight, Death the Kid from Soul Eater and many many more roles. I realize I’m just going on and on. Yes, I am like Kyoko in several ways and that’s why I enjoy Skip Beat so much. I never, and I mean never like any females in manga. Kyoko is really the first one that I have to come to like and respect.
You’re invited to the wedding if you want to come.
Just kidding, but I can’t wait to see how he will portray Shou. And I’m sure that everyone is hoping for the best for the anime.
OMG I just had a thought.
Y’know how Takehito Koyasu was originally rumored to play Ren? Well, I just thought of who he SHOULD play.
LME President Lory. Its’ fucking PERFECT. Exactly the kind of character that’s right up his alley.
You know, L-chan, he is perfect for the role of Lory.
But I was also thinking of one other person that would suit his character as well…Koyama Rikiya. His role as Shinigami-sama from Soul Eater has proven that he can play eccentric characters really well.
I would really happy though if Takehito Koyasu was choosen. He’s great as Hotaru from Samurai Deeper Kyo, Excalibuir from Soul Eater, Ranka from Ouran Host Club, and many, many more roles.
Takehito Koyasu almost ALWAYS goes for the really weird roles, and Lory is the weirdest character in the whole series. Hence the “right up his alley” bit.
Koyama Rikiya is awesome too, but I don’t know if he has that dramatic flair that Koyasu has. And for the flashy president of an entertainment agency, I think the dramatic flair is kinda necessary.
Aha~
Koyasu-san might just be perfect for the role! -laughs-
I wonder who’s Lory’s seiyuu though. :’3
Maan~ O_o
It’s hard to think about the perfect seiyuu when it comes to Nakamura-san’s characters.
I especially love Koyasu-san’s role as Pesche in BLEACH so it’d be so fun if he was to voice for Lory.
But that’s just us hoping. D:
Meeh..
Anyways…usagijen-san~
if it’s not much trouble…
what does the kanji written on here mean?
http://www.hanayume.com/hanayume/img/next/hanayume_e.jpg
I can answer that for you:
“Tons of HanaYume-only New Info!
Skip Beat!
TV Anime Info.”
Yeah, it doesn’t say much.
I’d have to wait for two weeks for the next HanaYume issue. >_<
I can’t wait…coz then I’d be able to find more new info concerning the anime. :’3
Thanks, L-chan. =’D
Meeh…I want Afureko news though…xD
@kanzeon: Now that you mention Kyrie, I actually think that dude has less redeeming qualities than Shou. Shou might be a little more shallow and egotistic than Kyrie, but he certainly has more depth too ^^
@kokorospirit1: I can already imagine Miyano Mamoru’s voice as I read the scenes with Shou
@L-chan: Koyasu certainly fits the bill of being the eccentric President Lory
I wonder when we’ll be able to find out the whole cast, there’s so much suspense T__T
@Wija-chan: The characters in Skip Beat are really complex and possesses many ‘faces’, so yeah, versatile seiyuus would be necessary to portray them well. I’m hoping that more scans will come out as the weeks go by, or better yet, I hope the official website for the anime will be up!
@Usagijen
Meeh…I’ve been waiting for awhile for the anime site to come out too. D:
It’s taking awhile. I wonder why. -scratches head-
A lot of the anime’s for fall already has their sites up. O_o
D: Baah
i am huge fan of suwabe but noooo I dun want him as Ren.
Suwabe voice is like spreading pheromones all over, so sweet and seductive even when he didn’t meant it.
But I love his dramas, A lot. His voice in Zutto anata dake series is my fave
