This isn’t supposed to be the blog post I had in mind to be published today, especially not after a few days of blog absence, but I got sidetracked (as usual), and it’s always easier to churn out news announcement posts, so yeah, I fail that much
I was browsing MOONPHASE today, checking out updates regarding Skip Beat’s website, much to surprise that what I saw was this new anime among the list (with its homepage now up too!): Asaki Yumemishi. The first thing that came to my mind was the recently released PC game of the same name, but of course there’s no way that could happen. Just as I [later on] thought, it’s the adaptation of Waki Yamato’s epic Tale of Genji manga (based on the epic Tale of Genji novel, of course). Now, all the ones who watched Kure-nai and had no prior knowledge about this novel will be able to see the light! Or something.
There’s not much info on the staff and cast for the anime yet, but the epicness of this tale (albeit tragic, melodramatic and filled with political concubine conspiracy) and the fact that this will be taking up the Noitamina slot after Nodame Cantabile makes me excited over this series (though not quite for the right reasons… I’m somewhat imagining going ‘SRS BSNS romantic rant mode’ with this series ^^; ). I just wonder how much of the novel/manga they can cover in the span of 11 episodes, and how sensual this adaptation will turn out to be.

Y’know, just the other day I was talking to my friend about Genji. We have decided that Genji is where Japan’s obsession with lolis and moe started.
Cause Hikaru Genji first met Murasaki when she was a kid and found her just too cute to pass up and ended up abducting her and raising her to be his ideal woman.
Yeah, when you read the Murasaki part of the Tale of Genji, it’s really really sketchy.
@L-chan: Ohh, interesting deduction! =O To think that a girl (Murasaki Shikibu) actually ‘promoted’ that. If Genji Monogatari is indeed based on a true story, then it means the obsession with loli and moe has been running in their blood ever since before (not to sound racist or anything)… scary o_O;;
This looks exciting. I’m always up for a good slice of ancient feudal Japan melodrama. Hopefully, it’ll have a good budget and director.
wow… they just showed a documentary about genji on nhk world the other day. it was a multi-part thing and i didn’t know when they’re gonna continue it though. keep posted when this will show.
Cool news! I keep meaning to read the novel, but the sheer size of the book (my college library has a translated, unabridged version in two ginormous volumes) scares me off every time. Despite that, I’m somewhat familiar with the story from other manga and anime, and it’d be interesting to see another version
Wow…seems interesting. :’o
I would wanna watch this too. x’3
But..I must first finish Kure-nai. Lawl xDD
@Jayers: Definitely, this anime would need quite some budget to portray the novel as artistic and dramatic as possible.
@biankita: wow, I’d love to see that documentary. Well rather than reading the loooongg novel, especially
@Senna: I know what you mean. I don’t think I’ll ever muster up the will to read something like that. All I’ve read in our library are summaries lol.
@Wija-chan: You’ve got plenty of time to marathon Kure-nai, this won’t air till January 2009 anyways ^^;
Oh my..that’s a long time.
Haha~ I guess you’re right.
Maybe I’ll just marathon with other anime’s while waiting. Hehehe~ x’3
