Unless something unexpected happens, I would’ve already arrived in Singapore by the time you read this post.
I’ve been reading the Hakushaku to Yousei novel since last week (slowly, because I was preoccupied with other stuff), and I’m enjoying the read so far. The start seemed a little shaky, I had a hard time picturing the Victorian-esque Western setting due to lack of vivid details, though I’m not really sure if it’s got something to do with my lack of comprehension or the writing itself (I haven’t read enough fantasy books to be a ‘good’ critic). But that’s nothing compared to the priceless antics I’m seeing from the Fairy Doctor Lydia and the Count Edgar, and this is exactly why I actually said I’m enjoying this little adventure.
Lydia could be likened to Natsume of Natsume Yuujinchou, as they possess the same oddity/ability to hear and see what ordinary people can’t. Lydia however, is like a full-grown Natsume — she already overcame fears of loneliness and solitude, and has come to delight in her special ability. She’s got fairy childhood friends too! One is the sassy cat Niko you see in the homepage and the PV, her bodyguard of some sort and the other fairy is one hawt bishie (I only read about this from the character profiles in the magazine I bought, I have yet to encounter him in the novel).
Lydia gets entangled into this treasure-hunting-like adventure because of people who are after the Star Sapphire, and Count Edward who also wanted to ask her help to regain this Holy Ancestral Sword of some sort. Yes, the plot is a whee bit cheesy, but I found the novel to be really engaging given the interactions between Lydia and Edward, as well as this whole mystery shrouding Edward’s character. I was kept hanging at the edge of my seat wondering whether or not Edward is indeed the Count of Blue, at least in the hundred pages I’ve read so far (this Blue clan is said to have a strong bond with fairies and the sword that’s supposed to be handed down to him by his family is protected by fairies), since he’s the type of guy who can keep a poker face and fool his way out of everything. So Lydia is stuck with Edward, because he hired her for the task of searching for that fairy-protected treasure, and also because she has no choice — her life is in danger because villains are after her, though she still maintains a distance from Edward because she’s not entirely sure whether she can really trust him.
I haven’t read past half of the first novel, so obviously, I’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg to the whole story. But since I won’t be around when the first episode airs, I thought this would be the best time to post about it!
Going back to the topic… I find Edward to be a smexy tease. He knows Lydia’s lack of experience with guys, and he takes advantage of that (in a wholesome way, still). He teases her a lot too, since her reactions are fun~ Their banter antics is fun because Lydia is the strong-headed type of girl who doesn’t easily back down from a fight. She also speaks her mind, unlike sissy heroines. So yeah, basically I’m fond of the lead guy and girl, and it’s one of the main reasons why I’m anticipating the anime adaptation.
And, as the character designer has said in one interview, viewers (especially fangirls) would be happy to know that there is a bit of smut stuff to see in this series. There are no shower scenes, according to the character designer (drats! XD), but smutty tease is more than enough. I can sense romance blossoming in this series, even with the first few pages~ But the character interactions is what I’m most looking forward to here, not just Lydia and Edgar’s, also Nico’s, the butler Raven, and the cool & spicy Ermine(?) who reminds me so much of the rocker Nana, looks-wise.

You’re in Singapore now? TJ Han says he wants to meet you.
OMG. I am sooo looking forward to this series. Not only are there a lot of hawt bishies in it; the main characters remind me a lot of Kazuma and Ayano from Kaze no Stigma (two of my favourite characters of all time!)
And is it just me, or is the count a dead ringer for Tamaki-sama from Ouran High School?
-shakes you violently- Ahhh~~
I wanted to watch it so much more now that you’ve mentioned so much about it!!
GAAHH!!
I hate you!
But I love you too!
Now there’s more the reason to want to watch it.
It has aired and I can’t wait for the raw already! GAWD!
Did you say smut? -sparkly eyes-
Just kidding…
I think…Hohoh~
And YARS! Dx
BISHIES EVERYWHERE! Especially Edgar. -drools-
I also anticipate about the voices. :’]
Midorikawa Hikaru and Mizuki Nana~ FTW! x’3
I wish to read the manga…but I dunno where I can possibly find it scanlated…or at least a raw maybe. :’o
But you’re lucky to read the novels. D:
I wish I could read them too. -wipes tears-
I’ve not read a book in such a long time. (manga’s don’t count either…xD)
I was already incredibly excited about this series, but now…even more. Hearing that Edward’s a tease just makes me smile. I can always use more banter in my anime. Always!!!
…Darn. Now I’m all anxious. Need to start talking the internet now in preparation.
*scratches head* Is the brown-haired dude in the trailer the count or one of the other bishies?
I was really excited about this series, but I when I read that it also includes fantasy, that meant a red flag for me.It could have been a great series, I just don’t undestand why they had to include the out-of-this-world elements. There is something suspicious about that talking animal.
Teh England fetish continues. The blond guy is so hot….
Thank you for the preview summary! ^^
I wish there were translations for the novels but they have not been…done yet, I suppose, so I’m still frustratingly lost in the dark about most things.
Hmm, but yes, Lydia and Eddy’s (because I can’t take him seriously if he’s that teasing, lol, I love it) relationship made me want the next episode so much.
I’m mildly interested in this quest for the holy sword so I hope they bring in the other characters appropriately to make it more exciting.
Kelphie is so sexy~ xD;Thx again! ^^
@Ascaloth: yes, I am and still here~ and I met tj yesterday!
@Priss-Chan: and you’ll be happy to know that Lydia > Ayano! She’s not as tsundere, short tempered, and dense(?)
Edward is also more of a gentleman than he is, so *swoons*
@Wija-Chan: hahaha, love you too
I envy you for being able to watch this now, while I still can’t
I’ll download this asap when I get home!
@FuyuMaiden: yes, banters are <333 It’s always fun seeing those interactions ^-^
@L-chan: yups, he dyed his hair after their first meeting
@Roxy: But the talking animal is cute!!
@Jayers: yess, woohoo!
@xiao_jie88: aww, seeing more people get interested in this series is enough to make me happy ^-^
Really? That’s cool! But I’m wanted to meet you too….
@Ascaloth: To think that Hynavian and I also got to talk about you when we met up. Then we could also debate over Hiromi and Noe again! j/k. Seriously, it would’ve been cool to meet you as well as the rest of the RIUVA gang
I also met up with Impz and Jin… and Hynavian is going to see me off the airport tomorrow! Till next time, I guess… surely this won’t be the last you’ll see of me in SG
Oh my~ I watched it yesterday
before I watched Code Geass…I regret watching it before Code Geass…CRAP! DxIt was LOVE~
I most likely understood a tad bit until the half part of the story…by the time it’s about to end, I was completely lost coz they just talked and talked. x’D
I want the next episode already but I have to wait next week. :’p Oh well.
I can’t wait for smut! x’DDDDi watched the raw version of this, thinking that it would be easy since most shoujo anime are easy to understand. boy was i wrong… it looks interesting, but i’m waiting for the subs.
Wait…I take that back.
Next week wouldn’t be the next episode.
But next week, I’ll be waiting for the sub version from m.3.3.w :’] Wewt~ x’3
