Pandora’s box, UNLOCK!
You know something’s up when I post this early, when I go out of my way looking for a way to watch this in the office because the raw got released while I was asleep! As such, the screencaps are all crappy, bear with it till I get the actual raws.
Don’t expect any coherent summary (head over to Aroduc’s for that), nor a coherent episodic thoughts/impressions either. I was on fangirl nirvana while watching this, so yeah

I’m as happy as Kyoko was when she got this poster of Shou now that I watched the anime
The long wait is over, Skip Beat fans! The anime has arrived!!!! And, I’m very very happy with how it turned out
(tears of joy), makes me feel positive about how the whole series will go. Konishi was right on the spot when he said “…I think the original manga was adapted well” in the interview. I was getting goosebumps while watching, right when the OP sequence was shown (the music is funky~ love it), and that continued on till the end of the episode.
The seiyuus are great!! Looks like Miya lived up to his erotic “Shouko-san is my type~” dialogue
That, and the flawless (I might be overexaggerating this, but it’s what I personally feel) portrayal of the SD scenes — Kyoko’s litil divils and overall ebilness, Shou’s haughty arrogance, etc. — the effects they used in order to bring the manga to life, made up for the not-so-stunning character design of Ren. He was the one who lost the most bishie-cool-factor points, but Konishi’s voice would make up for that I guess
Episode 1 shows us how the timid wallflower Kyoko transforms into her spunky somewhat yandere self. Prepare to see the great feats of Kyoko-sama from hereon, as she undertakes the challenges of showbiz, and a whole lot more! It might sound a bit cheesy if I say that “Kyoko has long dreamed of becoming a princess, and she gets a step closer to that childhood dream when she steps into showbiz”, not to mention misleading, because there’s more to this series than that. It’s intricate, complicated, well-thought, and I just love it to bits.

Don’t mess with the Kyoko!!
Those looking for fluffy romance might end up being disappointed with Skip Beat, because it’s screaming more of Kyoko shoujo GARR power more than anything shoujo-ey. Feminists like me, however, are always happy to see heroines who totally KICK ASS!
I am currently (and forever will be?) on a total Skip Beat high mode. Everyone should watch Skip Beat!!! It’s crazy, it’s fun, it’s entertaining, but more than that, this series has a whole lot of depth and a HEART. There’s more to the characters (and the story overall) than meets the eye, all thanks to Nakamura-sensei’s greatness! Well I just hope you guys will love the characters in this series the way we Skip Beat fans do, and love the series too of course. That said, I am sooo gonna pimp this in the office, or wherever
Till the next episode, yosha!
P.S. I’m not the first one to provide coverage on the Skip Beat’s premiere episode, but this other blogger

Because of all the SERIOUS pimping of this series, I literally ran out and bought all the manga (14 novels in English so far)! I haven’t started reading it yet though; maybe I’ll wait until I’ve seen the first episode of the anime
But I’m pretty sure I’m gonna enjoy both of them very much
OMG, OMG!! Damn Damn I can’t watch this now and I’m not going to be able to watch this during this week, too. Bad timing.. But I am so happy, as far as i can see from the screencaps, the original Skip Beat! manga was adapted without losing its greatness..
and oh yes Kyouko is the number one shoujo heroine, I love her devotion to Shoutarou!!! (We the Kyouko fans shall never say Shou-chan again!! Damn you Shoutarou! :P)
I love her grudge to Shoutarou!! I love her little devils and voodoo dolls!!! lol She is not a bitch in a love triangle. She is in a fight with all her might!
I want to see Sawara-san and Rori the president!! kyaaa
Thanks for the screencaps and little summary/thoughts..
;_; want to watch. no subs yet… not that it’s stopping me. downloading raw ;_; not yet complete…
Thanks for the review ^_^ God now I wanna watch the anime adaptation as soon as the subs comes out. I heard that it smoothly follows the manga and it doesn’t disappoints the fans so I’m really excited to watch this one.
Yeah, poor Ren loses a little bit of his bishie-ness, but that’s to be expected, since Nakamura’s style is very detailed. Everybody looks a little less pretty.
I’m actually looking more forward to the next episode, even though I thought this episode was done well. Why? Because this is always the hardest part to read/watch, looking at poor, pathetic Kyouko before she goes GAR. But the ensuing antics should be fun!
I’m liking the voices so far. Miyano Mamoru is doing really well as Shou! He got both the arrogance and the dorkiness down pat. Too bad we couldn’t hear more of Konishi as Ren, but he appears next episode. (I wonder how long we have to wait until the manager part . . .)
@kai_yukari: I personally didn’t find Ren bishie enough, but good enough. I guess you’re not as picky as me
@Priss-chan: holy!!
I think I’ll just buy the second-hand version of the Japanese mangas when I get the chance, same with TCP, so many volumes
I’m positive you’ll enjoy the manga and the anime!
@irem: ohhh, looking forward to Sawara (especially that particular scene with Kyoko hahaha) and especially President Lory!!!
@biankita: I’m hoping the subs will come out soon too, so my brother can watch it!!
@kanzeon: yeah, I’m glad that most fans agree that this was done really well
Hurray for Skip Beatttt~!!
@L-chan: I wanna watch Sawara’s suffering in the hands of Kyoko next week!!
And yeah, the antics in Skip Beat is always worth looking forward too. Kyoko meets Ren!!
there’s so much stuff I’m anticipating in this anime, though they’re more of the later ones orz. So yeah, we’ll just have to sit back and enjoy each episode that comes till those *moments* finally arrive!
Eeeeee…
^_______________________^ <-Me during the entire first episode.
^_______________________^ <-Me watching it a second time. And a third…etc.
Ah~! I had a small little fit when I saw that the raws first available. Normally I’d be all sulky about not watching it in widescreen, but it didn’t matter! Kyoko is great in any resolution!
Perfectly said. Now we just must wait a week or so to see some of that heart…darn it. I want more Skip Beat! now. Stupid anime ended up being too good…
Hmm, I’ve been hearing a lot of good stuff about this anime (and I did read the first volume of the manga once, I think) so I will have to take a loot once the subs come out.
Oh god why does everything great have to be this week?! I have tons of midterms to study for so I don’t think I can watch it yet
but your post makes me so exiciteedd!!
oh gracious, i was (AND STILL AMMM!!!! XD) sooooooooooooooooo excited when i found out someone posted the first ep already!!
and there i was, prepping myself for a long anxious wait when BAM! there it was, in all of its skipbeat glory!! <3 <3 <3
i’m so happy that the anime’s comic scenes are sticking close to the manga and i LOVE the seiyuus!! aaaaa! i am very much the ren fan, but i LOVE that they got Miyano Mamoru into this series, even if it’s to do Sho’s voice instead of my beloved Ren–especially since the schmexy deep voice much better fits Ren’s image!
overall, i was pretty darned happy with this–the only downfall being the not-as-hunky-as-usual Ren that they portrayed in the anime.
yayyyy for skip beat!
can’t wait for the subs :3 Kyoko’s pink overalls are more shocking that i’d imagined
Still recovering from the awesomeness that is my husband, Miyano Mamoru!!I wanted more Ren!!! Konishi-san, oh how I love your voice. Overall, awesome episode and I can’t wait for the next episode!!
Am I the only one who doesn’t know anything about the show? My first impression was not favourable because of the old school design (I’m sorry I’m sorry! I know I’m prejudiced), but as I watched it more Kyoko really is quite interesting. It’s not the type of anime I normally watch, but so far the first episode looks quite good.
OMG the first episode was great! We didn’t hear much from Ren until yet but I’m happier with his voice than I thought I would be (since I never imagined him with a dark voice) Ican’t imagine his silly moments at the moment. Due to the Fact that I read Skip Beat many many times and that I also have some japanese ones, I think I got many of its funny moments

Aaah the voices are great and the ideas as well
the hair could be more detailed though.
Can’t wait for the next
P.S: Has anyone noticed the Harry Potter poster?
I have not read the manga, but I liked the first episode
@Ou-bento: Haha, can’t get enough of Skip Beat!!
@FuyuMaiden: yeah, my impatient self is screaming “Where is my Skip Beat!!” with matching Kyoko-like devils all around too
@wandering-dreamer: and I will certainly rewatch this when the sub comes out
@Jayers: let your Skip Beat excitement motivate you to go study, finish whatever you’re doing early on, and reward yourself with doses of the Skip Beat anime for your hard work!
@knee kay: Miya was fated to voice Shou, that’s for sure
His voice won’t fit the smexy tease that is Ren. What made me really about this is the faithfulness of the anime to the manga’s visual comedic elements, that’s one of the aspects I love about the manga. Hope they can capture the manga’s overall expressiveness!
@rukomi: it’s sooo neon pink! Would love to have that in my wardrobe haha
@kokorospirit1: …still have to wait a few more days before the next ep! Well the other offerings of fall should keep us busy in the meantime
@Briar: haha, I’m just happy you were somehow able to get past your bias against the character designs
I sure hope Kyoko’s awesomeness make you stick to watching this till the end!
@EagleVision1999: do not fret, for Konishi will certainly be able to capture that comical side of him! He’s naturally silly, so yeah
I wasn’t paying enough attention to notice the Harry Potter poster till a few other bloggers pointed it out haha.
@Kitsune: now the anime will get you to read the manga, sooner or later!
Ohohoho~ I’m late huh?
I was soo busy MODDING our Skip Beat! group in Crunchyroll I forgot to check your blog. x’D
I was re-watching the raw over and over..lawl and last night I finally finished making screencaps from the HD raw
So I was tired..(so was my computer..xD lawl)
I’d be totally high-strung whenever it’s Skip Beat related..

you’re not alone.
I was quite happy myself about it. :’D
I was surprised it was surprisingly good.
It was higher than what I was expecting.
I can’t wait for moar!
I’ll be sure to see your post about the next epi when you post it early. :’3
I’ll remember that. x’3 Hoho~
(I’m glad we have moar screen time for Ren in the first epi! Yey! xD)
I don’t like Lory’s voice in the second episode and his first appearance had neither enough energy nor movement
@Wija-chan: I fail so my episode 2 post is gonna be late lol.
@EagleVision1999: I was kinda disappointed with Lory’s voice too, but oh well, gonna see if I’ll get used to his voice as I watch more episodes >_<
I was getting ready to go to bed when I saw Skip Beat airing on TV. Now I can’t sleep!
I wonder which direction they’ll take the anime adaptation though, since the manga is still currently running. But I LOVE how they stayed true to the original character design of the manga. It’s just like the manga, only in full motion!
I can’t wait to see the future episodes. (Hopefully at a more decent hour of the day. @.@)
The third episode is definitely better than the second one (which dissapointed me a little)
I re-read the manga so often understanding is no prob…
I can’t wait for the next!
I must admit that I almost don’t need subtitles…
I can qote the whole manga…ehem
I can’t belive skip beat is an anime now!!!!!!! That is so frickin awesome!!
