Anicon 2008: A n00b’s First Venture Into Con
I want a Tamama plushie!
I’ve never attended an anime convention all my life, until last Sunday. Hard to believe considering how much of a fangirl I am, but not surprising given my shy and timid personality *cough 
*cough* Or more appropriately, my lack of guts to attend a con without someone to accompany me. But now, I finally stepped out of my cowardly shell and attended one, and had loads of fun! I brought my best friend along with me, and met up with fellow Filipino bloggers. It somewhat became an all-girls meetup since the male anime fans I invited were busy, or just no fun Well Zeroblade attended the con later in the afternoon, hang out with us a little while, turned out to be the only guy in the group, and went on his way to take a look around the place, and went home not long afterwards. Don’t worry Zeroblade, we’ll have guy acquaintances in the next con since my officemates will be coming along!
Random meido piccies
I brought my G9 with me so I went all trigger happy and took pictures of the cosplayers I spot, especially the more obscure ones. I activated my thick-skinned mode throughout the event so I was able to take quite a number of pictures, though I don’t really think my shots gave them justice. I also took some pictures of the meidos in the maid café, even though it’s not allowed (you have to pay 10 pesos for each photo you take of them, or with them).
The maid café became the main attraction of Anicon 2008, thanks to the cute meidos in the place, and the café was filled with pedobears in no time! According to biankita, the pedobears were making the maids sing, dance, etc. Of course the maids can’t do anything but go “Kashikomarimashita, goshujin-sama~” and follow their master’s orders orz.
Oh, and this event became even more fun because all of us girls seem to have this ItaKiss hate running in our veins and we bashed the show to no end the moment it became our topic 
what a catchy title for a magazine, lol.
Anicon 2008 might not be as awesome as the upcoming Anime Festival Asia 2008, considering that there weren’t special guests in the event (conventions here rarely get special guests), the cosplayers comprised mostly of Naruto and Death Note fanatics, and the main attraction became the maid café (not surprising orz), it still is special for me because of the aforementioned reasons, and a whole lot more. And it’s our very own anime con! Hehe. Looking forward to CosMania this coming Sunday… it’ll be a big get-together for me and my fellow otakus/anime fans in the office, as well as other blogger buddies. And I’ll make sure to wear my Toshokan Sensou shirt that day

I got really excited when I saw someone cosplaying Yoko, though I agree with Zeroblade that she looks like a guy (please don’t kill me, Yoko!) Oh and this cosplayer’s mom totally approves of her cosplaying btw, saw her assisting her daughter ^^;

I didn’t have any idea who these characters are until hazy told me they’re from Avatar the Last Airbender. Though from what I remember, the guy is supposed to be bald lol.

I honestly can’t tell which Ouran character this guy is cosplaying. The only one I character I can think of with blue hair is either Hikaru or Kaoru, though that’s not really their true hair color o.O

i think the last time a philippine con had a special guest was back in 2000 when yuu watase came here when fushigi yuugi was at the peak of its popularity. after that, cons here just became one big party/fire sale for fans and merchants, which isn’t bad since it means that it doesn’t need a big jap celeb to pull people in. which would actually explain why we have so many cons in a span of one year.
and you shouldn’t be so shy about asking for photos. cosplayers are hams and are even willing to do requested poses for the photogs ^^

The Kamen no Maid Guy cosplayer and Tamama plushie = win! I never noticed that the Ouran guy’s hair was blue… so that’s why he’s been wearing a cap when I initially saw him.
Would you mind if I wear the TS shirt too? We can pass off as two task force members. xDD It’d be more awesome if there was an actual Doujou with us though (I wish!).
By the way, the Kamen no Maid Guy is actually a girl (I saw them eating at Yoshinoya lol).

Here’s a suggestion: for next year’s con, go join the organising committee and have them ship over Inoue Marina-sama from Japan.

For that avatar pic your right, Aang normally is bald, but he was in disguise in that outfit so he grew his hair out (much to the joy of A:TLA cosplayers everywhere, now they didn’t have to shave their heads!).
I only could stare at the pictures!!! Were you really a n00b? Newbie!!! Was this in your home town/city or no? My first anime convention that I went to in July 2008, I had to go to another provence. Me and my ex-best friend flew to the provice, at 3AM and we didnt have one shut eye and were up for 3 nights long, 24/7. It was fun!!! Alot Vampire Knights and Death note cosplayers. I only saw one group of people cosplay Ouran Highschool, it was interesting.
that “some random Goth guy” reminds me of Ludwig-sama and his clothing style from Ludwig Kakumei by Yuki Kaori.. I think..

And this is in the city where I live, so it’s really convenient to attend cons here and there. Your con trip was quite an adventured, I should say, I hope you got to do other stuff than just attend the con!
