The Taigaism Dialogues (1-2): The Humble Beginnings of a Taiga Worship

This conversation happened “live”, as both Seleria and I were watching ToraDora episodes 1-2 (for the second time), and it was even before I cooked up this first ToraDora post. Brace yourselves for some random lulz in this confuzzling conversation! You’ve been forewarned. Some of the episode [timelines] are indicated for your reference.

usagijen: oh know what, I’ve come to realize as of late, that I’m easily taken by ’streams of consciousness’ / inner thought monologues hehehehe
usagijen: not that I have a fetish for it or anything
Seleria: guilty
usagijen: AM NOT. Anyways.

Seleria: Ryuuji is such an OC.
Seleria: …and Inko is one ugly parrot
usagijen: UGH yeah… Inko… is such a fugly parrot indeed =____=
usagijen: it’s a sick parrot, in more ways than one.

Seleria: when I skimmed through the first episode
Seleria: i really thought ryuuji was ugly
usagijen: rofl, he was made to look _that_ way, to look scaryyy
Seleria: yeah
Seleria: kitamura is also ugly
Seleria: nobody looks bishielicious
Seleria: its depressing =/
usagijen: haha, don’t worry about that too much

[04:59]
Seleria: lol
usagijen: rofl
usagijen: wahahaha, hahahaha (imitating Minorin’s laugh)
Seleria: wahaha wahahah
Seleria: yeah
Seleria: awesome
usagijen: Minorin’s laugh is like that of a witch hahahaha

Seleria: cuteeeeeeeeeee
usagijen: kawaiiii X3
Seleria: at that time
Seleria: when he realized how perfect PT is as a nickname
Seleria: i totally agreed
usagijen: yeah, cutteeee
usagijen: I want… the tiger plushie!!

usagijen: hm, someone told me that there’s something wrong with me if I don’t get to hate Taiga in the first ep… and really, I can’t hate her
Seleria: yeah but in episode 2
Seleria: she really grows on you
usagijen: yeah
usagijen: crazy taiga haters -__-;;
Seleria: hmm i never really hated her
Seleria: or i guess I’m just biased for tsunderes
usagijen: me too… I… like her!
usagijen: I likey feisty women!
usagijen: she’s described to be a tsuntsuntsuntsundere, and I personally don’t mind her super tsun-ness.

Seleria: i like her vulnerability
Seleria: to the point that she stutters
Seleria: <33
usagijen: X3
usagijen: r-r-rabu-retaaa [12:39]

[16:13]
Seleria: cute
Seleria: so moe
usagijen: X33
usagijen: awwww
usagijen: XD

Seleria: let me guess
Seleria: all the taiga haters are male?
usagijen: male and female, actually.
Seleria: lol
usagijen: hm, let’s make a dialogue post! taiga worship! XD (and hence, this post)
Seleria: lol
Seleria: i guess there is a lot of things to hate about her
usagijen: she’s said to be rude and abrasive… annoying.
Seleria: yeah she is
usagijen: well yeah, but hmm… I seem to have this innate tolerance for tsunderes
Seleria: i love them
usagijen: I find it easy to empathize with tsunderes…
usagijen: and well, according to other people, what differentiates Taiga from other tsunderes is that her tsuntsun-ness is because of her really high pride
usagijen: I guess that applies to other tsunderes, but I really think Taiga’s super tsun attitude is well-founded

Seleria: hehe who cares about the hate
Seleria: if you enjoy the show yourself
(just felt like “highlighting” that)
Seleria: then its fine
usagijen: X3333
usagijen: yeah, I’ll probably just mention a few words about the Taiga HATE in my first post, then bah, I’ll just enjoy this show as much as possible. Taiga <3333333
usagijen: XD
Seleria: ep 2 ep 2

(and so the fangirls proceed to episode 2…)

[00:36]
Seleria: wow, that’s a cute bowl
Seleria: paw~
usagijen: awww, yeah *__*

usagijen: the novel elitists are saying soooo many things about ep2, geez
usagijen: I don’t really wanna read about it, ruins the fun (though I already have read it ~__~)
Seleria: yeah
usagijen: I’ll probably go check out the source, but only to fill in the missing details
usagijen: and still reconcile it with the anime
Seleria: it’s better to not have any expectations
Seleria: for me a least
usagijen: that’s our advantage, we’re blank slates

[05:47]
Seleria: hey hey hey
usagijen: pass pass passs! lol.
usagijen: Taiga’s all cool yea~! m/

[06:32]
Seleria: you call it moe
Seleria: ryuuji

Seleria: while watching the 2 eps
Seleria: i couldn’t stop smiling
usagijen: me too… I can’t help but go awwwww
usagijen: Taigaaaa ;_____;

[08:35]
usagijen: Ryuuji no baka, he just had to RUB IT IN. -___-;;;

[09:29]
usagijen: wow, rumors sure spread fast!

usagijen: ROFL what the heck
usagijen: weirdo hahahaha

[12:56]
usagijen: ;_______________________;
usagijen: Taigaaaaaa ;___________________;
usagijen: TT__________________TT
usagijen: my tears are so shallow
Seleria: lol

…and onto the confession the next day!

usagijen: regarding megane-kun…
(don’t read the SPOILER if you don’t want to SCARRED, like what happened to our hamster chef .__.)
Show ▼

Seleria: SPOILER!!!
usagijen: not spoiler la
Seleria: I OUTTA KICK YOU!!!
usagijen: that’s what was missing from this ep D:
usagijen: baahhhhh
usagijen: T__T
Seleria: but i didnt knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Seleria: boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
usagijen: yeah, but you won’t really get what megane-kun said without knowing that ~__~ who knows if the anime is even planning to show that
usagijen: not spoiler!
Seleria: of course they’ll show that
Seleria: how else will the non-novel / manga people know
usagijen: ~___~ ok ok, I’m sorry :(
usagijen: erase erase erase
Seleria: oh well there’s nothing we can do about it
Seleria: its not that big of a deal

(see, that’s what I got for saying the missing novel details, I spoiled someone else’s fun… so yeah, I’m definitely not going to look at the novels for as long as the anime is still ongoing)

Also, Seleria and I supposedly had this more “objective” and insightful Taiga conversation, but since I forgot to save the convo log (I forgot that I was using another computer, which doesn’t have the archiving feature enabled, arghh), it all went *poof*

From what I can remember, I told Seleria that the ones hating on Taiga could be likened to the ones who see her as nothing else but the “ferocious Palmtop Tiger”, and Seleria thought so too, because those people are judging her through face value alone. Then somewhere along the way, I asked Seleria what she thought of Taiga, in comparison to other tsunderes like Shana or Louise (because she was the one who watched Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima), and she said that Taiga is the most mature of the three. Sigh, most of whatever epic discussions we had (if any) is now lost, and only have myself to blame

…and that’s it! Hope we can have a more insightful conversation next time (and I’m going to make sure I won’t lose the logs!). Though if you wouldn’t mind more of this super random lulz convo, then I’ll be more than happy to continue this. This is the only way I can get the lazy hamster to join me in “blogging” it seems =/

  1. lol I spoiled the story for myself. Posting such conversations are kinda nice because it has an more informal and personal feel that blog readers would enjoy while reading.

  2. Aaaah, sweet. Taiga <3 I like the convo flow. You should record over skype :D

  3. Usually, I’d hate Taiga superficialy for the fact that she’s a tsundere and everyone seems to love those to the point that they just exist in anime for that fact. In this case, I will grudgingly acknowledge the depth in Taiga’s character (though really, being misunderstood is no big deal, but all the negative expectation surrounding her character makes any positive seem like a big deal -_-”).

Though more grudgingly I’ll have to say that the real reason why I dislike her character is that her so-called tsun-tsun-ness would never work in her favour in real life – not that I have any first hand experience or anything *coughs*

  5. Taiga is seriously a stuck up, selfish bitch. It got so bad that I almost stopped reading the series halfway through book 3. They cut out most of her really, REALLY bad moments from book one, and trust me, she gets worse. She abuses Ryuuji like he’s her slave, and is hardly ever thankful for what he does for her. Oh, I’m sure she is thankful inside, but she doesn’t show it nearly enough. There is no reason for Ryuuji to be so unconditionally nice to her, but he’s just a nice guy. If he was a girl, he would be the type that gets tricked by bad men, have all her money stolen and then ask “Is it my fault?”

Seriously, I can barely tolerate Taiga. If the light novels didn’t have a change in tone and direction from book 4, I would probably have dropped it by now (I say that, but I read through the first 3 books and started on the 4th… maybe I’m subconsciously M?).

Oops, sorry for polluting your blog with my RAEG. I’ll leave now… :?

  7. Yay! More Taiga love! I seriously expected to hate her, but every time I see her I just end up loving her more and more. She really is like a tiny adorable tsundere tiger and I just want to forcibly hug her like I would a kitty. Because, like a kitty, you know she’d just accept it eventually.

But my weakness for tsundere is massive (probably the reason why I love cats so much in the first place…they are the tsundere animal) so it’s pretty natural for me to like super tsuntsun Taiga. No matter how much I may fight it.

  8. Unfortunately, I haven’t made it past ep1 due to lack of time. :( But yeah, what issa-sa said in paragraph 2 – just wouldn’t work in real life. She’d probably have a restraining order or 10 on her.

  9. I married a tsundere… You live for the dere-dere and die a little every time during tsun-tsun mode. If she reads this I’m dead! Wtf am I doing?! Hon if you read this… know that I love you!!!1111ONEONE

  11. The concept of tsundere is overrated. Even so, I like how Taiga seems to be more “mature” (though that is debatable considering how often she overreacts) than how her archetype in anime usually is. There’s still some problems I have with her (episode 3 sorta demonstrates that overreaction to stuff), but she’s not bad. :P

  12. @The Sojourner: Thanks for the input! Glad to know people actually enjoy reading this, it’s so random we don’t really think how people will find it, other than silly lol.

@Ryan and mellow: if we record our conversations it won’t be as funny anymore :P And we can’t really record it unless we’re talking to each other, and since we only have “text-based chats”… XD

@issa: you’re being tsundere about Taiga, hehehe XD As to whether or not the tsun-tsun-ness will work IRL will depend on its execution and the person (the victim? :P ) at the receiving end of it XD

@Luppy: lol, don’t worry about the RAGE RANT, it still won’t compare to the rage of Haesslich, so don’t worry XD Interesting that you mention about Taiga’s bitchiness getting worse in the later volumes, I can only imagine how the anime Taiga will turn into when it gets to cover those 8O This will be my ultimate “tsuntsun tolerance” test, so we’ll see how the later episodes will go :P

@Omisyth: ohohoho~ I can only hope you enjoyed reading that :P

@FuyuMaiden: haha, I want to hug little Taiga, even if it pisses her off, or more like, I want to do it to piss her off or something XD People like her are fun to tease :P

@Caitlin: I turn off my Realism Radar when watching this show, or rather, it’s automatically turned off for tsunderes (oh the bias XD)

@ghostlightning: ROFLMAO. I guess the dere-dere will revive you, so there’s no need to worry about your “death by tsun” :P

    @Kairu: yes, wanna join? =P

@N: Taiga’s “maturity” is subjective after all, and how well you can accept her character will always have this mix of personal bias — how deep you perceive her character to be, and just how far are you going to use that depth as an excuse to justify her “tsun”/abrasiveness :P I’m “blinded” to her vicious rage attacks, I don’t really take them seriously (I just laugh when she goes all RAEGGG, and I can only wonder if that’s even normal lol), so that’s most likely why I have no issues with her XD

  14. usagijen: I want the tiger plushie!!

Same here! Time for Tora Dora to work a little in the area of commerce by mass producing tiger plushies for fans out there. :D Oh you reminded me that there’s Tora Dora on tv tonight! :XO:

  15. @Little Neko: as they say, attitude is infectious :P

@Hynavian: I’ll totally buy that Taiga plushie when it comes out!!! Gogogo ToraDora!! And I envy you for being able to watch it on TV!! XD

  16. … … …Does a chat log count as a post? =P

The Taiga hate is understandable. She is a fairly deep tsundere character and I rather like her, but there are an equal amount of reasons to hate her too. An extreme tsundere like Taiga is a toss-up between the fans and fans will flock to the extreme ends of love and hate for her.

  17. Note to self: Jen has a stream-of-consciousness fetish…

…where was I? Oh, yeah. I like how this convo reminded me of the best parts of the first two episodes, which will hopefully manifest itself as a Toradora post sometime soon–which is my tsundere way of saying that you should give this format a shot more often. It’s like watching two versions of Konata watching this show, a concept mind-boggling in and of itself. Great choice of screencaps!
