Synopsis: In a world where robots outnumer humans, Casshern kills humanity’s hope, Luna, setting the world’s ruin into motion.

Casshern Sins is a revamp of the entire Casshern franchise, discarding the continuity of the original Neo-Human Casshern series from the 1970’s, where Casshern battled the evil robotic forces of Braiking Boss. In Casshern Sins, Casshern works for Braiking Boss and has killed Luna upon his orders. The consequence of this act is the Earth’s ruin (thus the “Sins” in the title).
Casshern Sins has a post-apocalyptic setting where humans are on the brink of extinction. The robots, however, are in no better condition as they too are affected by the impending destruction. Since Casshern was the one who caused this destruction, he has become the target of other robots. Some seek to kill him out of their anger for bringing ruin, while some seek to kill him believing that devouring him would bring immortality. Casshern, however, does not have any clue to his past except for flashbacks of Luna, who, according to the pink-haired robot, is the “sun which is named the moon”. I wonder how Luna’s death could have caused doom upon the world.
I have observed so far that in Casshern Sins, there seem to be two kinds of robots: the mindless mechanical-looking ones, and the humanoid ones, of which Casshern, RIngo, the pink-haired robot, and the cloaked robot (Braiking Boss perhaps) belong. Humans have yet to make an appearance. Ringo at first thought that Casshern is a human because he is beautiful.
The design for Casshern Sins is old school, reminding me of classic anime like Astroboy and Gatchaman. The thick lines and the coloring remind me of Kaiji. I think the animation quality is very good. The colors are sharp and the general feel isn’t blurry nor grainy. The backgrounds look great too.
When I first knew of the fall line-up, I didn’t pay much attention to Casshern Sins since there wasn’t much information about it. All I knew about the Casshern franchise was that there was a live-action movie which starred Yusuke Iseya (who was Morita in the Honey and Clover live-action movie). Upon watching the first episode, the show has caught my interest. Casshern Sins will be one of this season’s anime that I will be following (granted that I have a source).
And oh, I think Ringo is kawaii.

Been good through 3 episodes so far, will likely continue throughout the series. I like the old-school style, and how they delve into the psyche of the robots facing death.
Old school, maybe, but I find the animation pretty refreshing and actually beautiful in surreal sense—especially in the third episode, which you obviously have not seen yet as human makes the appearance there.
And oh, Ringo is hideous! Why didn’t her head just pop as it should’ve?? :p
@bakaneko By saying the designs as old school, I didn’t mean to say it’s bad or something. I agree, I find it refreshing amidst the current design styles. I still think Ringo is kawaii though.
i love this show. this has got to be one of the more underrated anime this season!
the only thing i find old school about this show is casshern’s character design (hair, eyes, clothes). but for some reason, the old schoolness seems to blend in so well with the rest of the animation. i love the colors they used because they seem to pop. i don’t know what the term is, i just appreciate theart.
I’ve seen the first episode and have been meaning to see the rest of them. It’s intriguing, but I’m trying to figure out whey fighting robots is so bloody, I thought blood was a human thing, silly me. And it is really interesting to see some old school designs, I’ve never really seen any old school anime so it’s really different.
@biankita I love the colors too! They look fresh despite the gloomy setting.
@wandering-dreamer Lol. The “blood” is probably fuel or some sort of lubricating liquid.
