Hello … I agree with ghostlightning about Crest of the Stars. Lafiel = <3!! :3!! As for Tytania, I haven’t seen an episode yet but based on the screenshots, the character impressions doesn’t seem to click with me (Must be the wigs :p) but willing to try this out sometime in the future.

@ghostlightning Crest of the Stars does seem to have a different flavor from Tytania. Might just be my cup of tea (lol). Actually, I’ve been thinking of watching it once I can get my hands on ‘em.

If you’re having trouble getting into Tytania, then I wholeheartedly recommend watching Crest of the Stars. It’s still a show that has big fleet battles, but its core is a story of characters.

The lead, Lafiel, is definitely one of my most favorite characters in all anime. It’s pretty short, but has 2 very good sequel series and a sequel OVA. Lafiel is love.

Pretty much the standard reaction I’d expect to see from someone who isn’t a fan of space opera. To me the politics are fascinating however, and I’m not worried in the slightest that there are far more male characters then there are female ones. In an age of anime where every other show seems like a galfest and male characters are further and further relegated to the status of patsy or pervert, it’s nice to see a show with male characters that come across as classy and exude confidence, pride and power.

People will argue about male dominated socities, but I say that worlds in anime are usually the opposite and it’s the female characters that are often given the focus now. I too used to wish back in the 90’s that there were more anime with prominent female characters and that the male ones would take a back seat, but now I think it’s gone to far and that good male anime characters who aren’t just perverts and idiots are practically on the endangered species list.

I’ll also gladly take the European flavour of Tytania’s setting. I’m bored to death of series based in modern or ancient Japan and again the classiness of the whole ideal (Men who still drink tea and use rifles as weapons in infantry combat) is something that intrigues me. It’s unique, a trait that anime is usually afraid to showcase.

Though now with the inclusion of some more generic characters like Lira I’m sure a lot more people are going to become interested in the show. Still I’ll take what I can get and I have a feeling that Tytania is going to be a rare gem amongst all the galfests this season. To my left is Kemeko DX, to my right is Macademi Wasshoi, behind me is Kurogane No Linebarrel, but straight ahead is Tytania and I’m going to keep walking toward it week after week.

@IKnight The lack of women could also signify a male-dominated society much like how most actual cultures have been. Hmm.. I’m thinking I should give Tytania a chance and see how it goes (provided that I have a source)

The lack of women is a valid criticism (homosocial anime is homosocial), though Lira, the woman in the ED, has begun to play a bigger role in the third episode. But as I said, I don’t blame you for being turned off by the show.

@Panther Interesting point about the lack of females, though there was that girl who wondered what’s the big deal about Tytania. Looks like she’ll turn into another annoying character later on. Still, the Tytania clan should have some women of power among them.

Epic manly tea pouring. How can you not like? Though I do like how the story is proceeding, at least they are not rushing stuff. Also the space battles bring me back to old-school times of such anime. There is also an overwhelming lack of females in this one for once lol.

@IKnight Lol. The rampant tea fetishism isn’t a problem (hence the blog banner). I think the bubblegum chewing was the main reason that drew me away from Tytania.
