[...] I can’t fault Skip Beat! for being “bland” or “unoriginal” shoujo, since over the three episodes expectations and conventions kept getting knocked down like crazy: Shoutarou being an unrepentant obnoxious self-centered bastard who’s let fame get to his head too much (or, rather, has an inflated opinion of himself, which seems to help in the talent industry of Japan), his arch-rival Ren who is just as much of a self-centered bastard, to hardcore daikon art, to failing the audition (we’re totally out of Tanemura Arina territory here, folks). I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect going into the first episode, and, coming out of the third episode, I’m not entirely sure what to expect out of the next n episodes (except, apparently, pure awesome).
@FlareKnight: We won't ever get enough of Skip Beat, so more bloggers joining the Skip Beat bandwagon would've been great! XD

Glad how you're seeing all this in a positive light, and yes, revenge is only the beginning, and will allow room for soo much development later on! :) Poor Sawara for incurring the "wrath" of Kyoko, now he's all scared if Kyoko loses this competition too XD

Well thought I should find something your blogging since posting about the Kaze no Stigma episodes was plenty of fun in itself. Though for my dive into anime blogging with the fall season thought I should play it a bit safe so didn't end up picking this one.

Anyways onto the actual show. I honestly wanted Kyoko to throw those arrows for a kill :). But really I like her character so far. Her rage is fun to watch and makes me wish I could put out rage like that when I felt it. True that she doesn't have any particular interest and revenge is the only thing driving her, but its a starting point. Sure she begins with revenge, but wouldn't be character development if she didn't move to something better as the story continued.

Think this is a case where she needs to get in and then take some steps to find her way. Oh and have to give full credit to the scare tactics employed against Sawara. He should have just given in earlier and saved him and his family some tough times.

I'm on the last act of volume 1. It's where Episode 3 ended, so that means I'm caught up of what the first 3 episodes had and didn't have of the manga. In my personal opinion I think the anime is sticking to the manga, but it's almost going a a bit to slow, stuff that happened faster in the manga is happening slower in the anime. Like the "wall of hate" scene.

@Maura: I highly suggest you continue reading the manga, because your disappointment (or semi disappointment) in the anime might be brought about my false expectations... and having seen the manga will make you see a glimpse of how the anime's going to turn out. A bit of a spoiler, but at least you'll know what to expect, and enjoy it nonetheless =D

@Sakura: oh yes, which is why seeing more naysayers dropping this show or not giving it a chance makes me a sad bunny (or a... psychopath? lol). This is one of the rare few animes which lives up to the manga, and I'm really thankful this project fell into the hands of HAL Maker *sniff*

Cheers to more Kyoko-sama AWESOMENESS! :halo:

Awesome post, your enthusiasm certainly shines through.

Its hard not to get enthusiastic about this show though, or in particular Kyoko.

I read the manga and you really do just latch onto her in that scene where she finds out she's been betrayed. Right there she just defies your expectations and she always continues to do so.

Surprising not only us but the people around her. So you have to keep reading to find out just what she's going to do next to astound us all.

I'm so very happy that the anime has managed to keep that spirit she has in the manga and absolutely naysayers you really should keep watching.

Kyoko hasn't even shown you an inkling of what she's capable of yet! :XO:

Episode 2 was what really got me interested in Skip Beat, it was the episode that made me happy. Got so much expectation for me that when episode 3 came around I was a bit disappointed, until maybe the middle then my hopes came back up =D !! I'm starting to reading the first volume of the manga now, it's interesting.

But you did a beautiful review. I agree that this series is turning out quite good. Glad you reviewed the second episode.

@ghostlightning: bahaha, the dumb parts of this show is still fun, so yeah~! Glad to know you're enjoying it XD

@Diego: lol, may I suggest you check out the manga instead? The artwork in the anime is tolerable, and while it manages to capture the "basics" of the manga's character designs, it still won't compare to the gorgeousness of the manga's art.

@Dando008: ohhh, rest assured that Skip Beat won't let you down with that! :3

@Impz: haha, but you're a <del>trap</del> shoujo lover! It shouldn't come a surprise that you like Skip Beat, so yeah :P

@FuyuMaiden: only write about it if you have the time! You wouldn't wanna risk getting a burnout now D: It'll be great if I can influence more people with Skip Beat, in a positive way :D

...and I should watch episode 3! I do hope Lory will grow on me once I get to watch it :3

@warriorhope: my Skip Beat fangirl power only shows in the blog, I'm not vigorous enough to plague every Skip Beat forum or something haha.

Gotta agree with both you and FuyuMaiden's opinion regarding Kyoko's naivety, it's just adorable, and the springboard for most of the funny and amusing antics!! XD

@biankita: ohh, don't go wishing for fast-pace-ness or the anime will end up skipping parts of the manga =O

@blissmo: woohoo! Hurray for a new convert! haha XD Now let's all go build a shrine for the Almighty Kyoko!

@Crusader: I'm all for a faithful adaptation, so I have no qualms with the current pacing. I can only hope the DVD sales will be much much better than what the TV ratings show! If the anime becomes a popular hit, we're likely to see more seasons of Skip Beat anime awesomeness!
