Stabbing Bloggers Behind Their Backs, the Google Notes Way

Despite my high-and-mighty elitist sounding “RSS is awesome!!!” pimping, I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t been living up to what I’ve been preaching (particularly Google Notes and Sharing) until recently, when more and more people started sharing their “Google Notes crap” and I don’t seem to be making any efforts in doing so! oh notes!

I’d like to think of Ryan as the main proponent of this in the anime ’sphere, followed by Lelangir, Owen, Omo, CalAggie, j1m0ne, who now made their Shared Items visible to the public, while mine remained hidden in my own burrow. But all that’s about to change, as I finally open the “pandora’s box” of my dark sekkrets. Not as sinister as it sounds, but you will get to see my trollish tendencies every now and then — stabbing bloggers behind their backs FTW!

Feel free to take a look at my Shared Items feed, and see random posts that I feel like taking note of (when I’m not being lazy) — posts tagged for a later reading/commenting, for trolling purposes, or for reference in the future, especially inspirational ones. The posts I tag *might* be indicative of future posts I’m going to write in the near future, so if you feel like doing a collab with me on a certain topic or something, just give me a holler and we can probably work out on that. I lack the initiative to suggest my post ideas to the ABC or the now defunct R-R because I’m not sure if other people would be enthusiastic about the topics (since most of them are somewhat ‘personal‘). I’m staying in my comfort zone wayy too much atm, I can probably need a little ‘push’ to bring some post ideas out of the blogging queue.

EDIT:
For instructions on how to go about Note-taking, I’ll just redirect you to Lelangir’s helpful tutorial. Spread the word around!! :P

  1. Don’t forget Chuchlann and….uh..Jacob Martin hasn’t made his public :( [though I noticed you also read with pleasure his latest introspect].

And pfft. I hadn’t read Ryan’s “Blog Lensing” hypothesis until after I post whored that “optimize your reading” across half the ’sphere. Kinda reminds me of the trio of dudes in the unification of Italy…there was the brains, the tongue, and the heart. I wonder, if I had posted the ‘guide’ on THAT, would have this been more of a success? I got shanked by a Skip Beats post so Yukan/CI/Superfani had to suffice. Still too early to say though.

At any rate, I really enjoy reading everyone’s notes!

It is annoying though, sometimes someone will write a note and you’ll read it, and it’s basically a note directed to you, but because recursive notes aren’t supposed to exist (or w/e), it’s like, uhhh, through which medium should I respond? Usually twitter does the trick (I’m infinitely glad I registered for twitter after so long…)

also, I JUST NOTICED YOUR AWESOME TAG CLOUD THING.

  2. @lelangir: *grabs Shared Items* I do hope we can get Kabitzin into this whole Notes thing, it would be epic if he can post about it in Sea Slugs! Not sure how it would’ve turned out if you got to post it in THAT, considering the number of readers there who are looking forward to episodic animu stuffs more than anything, but the more we are able to spread this info around, all the better.

I get what you mean with the recursive notes, I end up making use of twitter to respond to notes addressed to me too, lool. Not sure if Reader have that feature in mind for future releases, but if a certain someone could make a Google Reader/Notes++ kind of application with that, it’d be awesome.

I’m enjoying Notes very much too! I can feel the community spirit or something XD Glad you found that tag cloud nifty! I’m gonna organize my tags and categories so it’ll look more… organized and not redundant.

  4. blissmo, for someone that’s willing to go and edit all the images at yukan that don’t abide by your commandment, you’re awfully proacti…i mean lazy.

  5. Mine’s public…no one cares though. :P Actually, I’m too lazy to update it often so it shows the same list for a while.

  8. I am proponent D: lol, well actually my inspiration on noting was Ani-Noto, I just came to the realization that notes accomplish basically the same thing. And, lelangir didn’t you read Jen’s RSS Love post before this mini-revolution.

Also, I’m not sure about an application nor the recursive notes, but I guess subscribing to everyone’s notes handles that. Originally I came out with a greasemonkey script for firefox which, upon noting something, hit a certain URL, and the server on the other end would parse the requester’s last shared item, and attempt a ping/trackback. This is totally anonymous, so anyone’s note can use it without registration.

The idea was to allow Notes to interact with an entry just as other blogs’ entries interact when linked.

On my blog it doesn’t appear that I have a link to my notes, but there are secret things happening … of course my shared items appear in my feed mix blobs, but … there are alternate feeds, and if one clicks the RSS icon in the firefox address bar, a few various items are there, including “Ryan on the Otakuken” (or my Shared Items).

  9. Too much notation for me. Get in, make comment/write post, get out <— Optimal efficiciency.

  10. @blissmo: I would’ve been happier if instead of writing that lazy comment you actually checked this out and see what it really is. Saying “it’s cool” when you can’t be arsed to bother about sounds totally uncool.

@Caitlin: share your public feed! Wish I could add you on gtalk but I don’t know your gmail address!

@Drm and N: feel free to check out lelangir’s tutorial on that XD

@Ryan: I still think you ignited the community spirit within me, or something XD

The Notes trackback sounds a really nifty idea, and I got to ‘experience’ one of such myself when you Noted one of my posts. It also serves to empower non-bloggers because they get to interact with blogs/sites as though they have one (with the Notes trackback). Though I have yet to meet a non-blogger who’s into the whole animesphere community… hmm.

@Omisyth: pfft, where is thy community spirit?!

  11. Jen, thanks for helping me with google reader the other day. (:

It’s a handy applicant (an all in one buffet application) where I can read gmail, follow the feed of others, make notes and share notes. Am I missing out on any of its other functions?

I’ve dropped Feed Demon for Google Reader since it’s more convenient and I need not install any programs to use it. It’s all online! :D
And not forgetting to wish you a very Merry Berry Christmas!
Party hard and may you get many awesome prezzies. *wink*

  12. @Hynavian: aww, my pleasure!! I’m just happy that you became “converted” XD

“all in one buffet application”, that’s a nice way to put it! Oh and all I do in GR is follow feeds, make and share notes too, so I won’t know of other features we’re missing out on! XD

Merry Christmas!!!! Lots of prezzies from my relatives, hehe. Hope you had a great Christmas too! :D
