White Album, are you my lovely trainwreck?

white_album_foreboding

Dear WHITE ALBUM,

Thank you for the wonderful BGM, especially the one that you play after moments of serene silence, it never fails to get into my nerves. Above all else, it made me realize that I don’t need whatever musical expertise to form [good] judgment about “music”, just allow my ears to guide me~ Anyways, is this your way of foreshadowing the dreadful events to come in the series, how batshit insane things are gonna get later on? Because if so, I’d say it’s a total genius. You managed to embed this “future mess” not only in the actual storyboard, but also in the background music as well as in the inconsistent artsy effects you pull off. Oh and the scene transitions too, or the lack thereof. I thought of you as a ‘poor man’s EF’ before, but I haven’t really watched EF, so heh.

Don’t get me wrong, just because I’m tsuntsun about your music and artsy effects direction doesn’t mean I’ll stop watching. I’m sure I can survive despite all this, since prolonged exposure to anything will eventually make me numb to it. Besides, the coming onslaught in the series would be too good to pass up on. Rina’s a cool bitch, despite being, well, a bitch, one of the major catalysts to whatever’s gonna happen in this story. She must be the ONLY non-passive character in the series so far, geez. Looking forward to moar drama!

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

  1. She must be the ONLY non-passive character in the series so far

Yea, all the other passivity really bugs me ~_~ If its just going to crash into a wall because a bunch of characters don’t take control of their lives, I’ll be pissed.

  2. @Ryan: Rina will rule them all, if that happens, and I’ll go “serves you right” But yeah, it’d be great if the rest of the characters grow some balls!

You’re not far from the mark with this.

  4. On the other hand, just who wants some random top idol to take control of their lives? Especially one who (a) is stupid enough to hire a rank amateur as her manager, and (b) goes over the top when he waves to his girlfriend, and accuses him of being unprofessional when she has not told him the first thing about what his job is or how to do it. The batshit will come from Rina, it seems to me.

Contradictions in a character are good, but Rina’s contradictions are stretched to the limit, at this point, it seems to me.

I think this show could become a train-wreck in the other way, if it ends up not being able to pull its various threads and characters together into a coherent story. But I’m loving it so far.

  5. Rina’s the only one who’s actually got a personality

  6. Basically what I think too. Rina-chan is the only one with any kind of personality.

  7. To me the first episode was like the final episode, telling the viewers the tragic outcome of being with a girl out of your league.

After the third episode, I am even more perplexed. For some strange reason, even if it’s a show about idols and young girls, I find the OP, ED, and INSERT songs as unappealling as the girls themselves. They sing nicely of course, but it’s just that. Bring back Mizuki Nana’s upbeat tracks! Still, Rina is your best bet for something interesting to happen.

To me, Yuki can be moe all she wants, but if she can’t speak what she actually wants in the next couple of episodes which took forever in Hirano Aya’s former imouto role in “Akane-iro” (which became a waste of my time after all those hints with Yuuhi), then “Elvis has left the building”.

  8. @Sorrow-kun: Does White Album have any chance of topping EF in other aspects, I wonder?

@hashi: contradictions are good so long as they’ll be justified sooner or later, at this point things just don’t make much sense, at least not yet.

So far so good for me too, I’m definitely hooked on this!

@blissmo and warriorhope: hope the other ones can get their chance to shine!

@soyahoney: I like the OP and ED!! :P The insert songs are meh. I… feel sorry that you had to endure watching AkaneIro. I’ve got good vibes with White Album, it’s the kind of anime I’d like to watch no matter what the ending will be.

  9. Arr… I’ve been looking forward to some deep-frying from you ;)

Don’t quite know why so many folks are so hung up on the BGM or inserts, they didn’t disturb me. And the OP is among the best pieces in the season (I’m even warming up on the ED)

I wouldn’t count the other characters – especially Yuki – out so early. They’re very gradually messing up the balance, and I believe that things will be pretty powerful once the crap hits the fan. Don’t underestimate Yuki, she countered the juice attack in ep1 fairly well, and she doesn’t have any problems on her radar YET.

What I do like most is the atmosphere, and that the show manages to challenge the viewer to pay close attention. Letsee where it’s headed, since I honestly don’t know. But I like the overall direction it’s headed in ^_^

  10. I like how this series makes me think, like a LOT. Gawd I want to see the next episode just to confirm if my speculations are correct. Or anyone else’s speculations for that matter.

Boy am I glad to see you here, Mentar! Looking forward to discussing things with you again *turns on SRS BSNS MODE*

  12. @SpiralSpade: the unpredictability of how this series is going to turn out makes it exciting! :P It’s not something I’d recommend for *watching*, but rather for exercising brain muscles(?) each week to speculate and comprehend things XD
