And yes, Iâm afraid readers would have to bear with more of my self-indulgent posts about my adventures and mis-adventures in Tokyo, despite how this ‘adventure’ ended more than a week ago, until I run out of things to say or something.
Last last Friday was the memorable âTokyo Tower Dayâ for me and my officemates. We spent much of our free time after work in the Main observatory (we no longer went to the top floor because we had to pay extra bucks, and it wonât really be worth it unless we had more time in our hands), together with our lucky birthday-celebrant ex-officemate whoâs staying in Japan for her post-graduate studies. Sheâs one lucky dawg because she gets a free pass and a free cake c/o Tokyo Tower, so yay! Anyways, so there we were, five young ladies, kids at heart, decided to go silly and do things people donât normally do in there.

I like how this ended up, with the reflection and all
First, we took vain shots in the elevator. Boy was it hard, hard to fit all our faces into the frame, lol. It wouldâve taken a few more trials to get it right, but the elevator was too darn fast for that.

lovely night lights~
We got off the elevator, parted ways for a little while, took pictures of the night view on our own, before finally being reunited in our sillinessâŠ
âŠlike breathing onto the glasses so we can write our names on the hazy fog that gets formed on the windows after. We occupied like one glass window each, wrote our names on it and took pictures of it as some sort of âsouvenirâ. It turned out pretty embarrassing when this one guy (the caretaker?) wiped the hazy mess we left, lol. The windows werenât really good for viewing after what we did, obviously
And itâs because it was nighttime, we thought why not take advantage of this and take silhouette pics! So yeah, YMCA FTW!
Then, we went to the 2nd floor of the Main Observatory, where our birthday celebrant friend claimed her free cake.
We took a look around the place, and spent much of our time taking pictures by the look-down. It was amusing to see people going âkowaiii!â, or âkimochi waruiiiâ, or âscary mannâ XDD Ok, I have to stop making fun of random people lol.
Crazy as we are, we thought of doing the same âstuntâ we did in the glass windows to the look-down glass, but unfortunately(?), our âfoggy jutsuâ proved to be useless against the super thick glass. Instead, we just decided to go âvolt in!â and take random snapshots by the look-down, pictures of our feet and hands.
Before we knew it, it was already 10 oâclock in the evening, Tokyo Tower closing time. Now if you think the silliness fun is gonna stop there, well think again. While there are things you can only do inside Tokyo Tower, there are also things you can only do outside.
I canât remember exactly why or how this happened, but we ended up posing like refugees
Then, we decided to tinker with the light sign, or more like bastardize it, so what was once âTokyo Towerâ became âToyo Towerâ, literally translated (in our Tagalog language) as âSoy Sauce Towerâ. It becomes even punnier once you know that we also use âtoyoâ to refer to âhave a screw loose/crazy/insane/etcâ (âmay toyo [ako]â). So yeah, itâs like this âToyo Towerâ thing happened because may toyo [kami] (kami = we)
We finally went home after that. I experienced my very first crammed up train ride, and realized that thereâs no way the train rides in Tokyo will ever compare to the helluva commute ride I go through everyday in the Philippines, with the ogres and all. Itâs actually worse, and also better, considering how drunk persons are not allowed in our trains, and thereâd usually be a gentleman willing to give up his seat for a lovely girl like me.
I fail for not bringing home any souvenirs though, except the pictures me and my officemates took. It sure was worth it nonetheless

Oh wow, Tokyo Tower looks so much prettier at night. If only I could be there in 2 weeks time to claim my cakeeeeeeeee
YU DIND RAEP IT? T_T
Those are some awesome photos. I love To(k)yo Tower at night, except for the kissing/making out teens.
I lived in Tokyo or near it for about 4 years, and never found the time to go to Tokyo Tower. Landmark Tower in Yokohama, though, went more than 10 times!
@issa-sa: for the love of cake and JUSTICE, go do so!
@ghostlightning: that’s CLASSIFIED information
@Caitlin: glad we didn’t see those teens, or we were enjoying ourselves too much to even bother about them
@animekritik: if we had more time we could’ve went to Yokohama! But you fail for not going to Tokyo Tower! haha. You could’ve taken advantage of the birthday offer
I wanna experience commuting in Japan as well! Commuting in our country has always left me bone-chilled and numb way before I even get off the bus. Urk.
You got some nice shots, lol :D. Some of them gave me NANA vibes, like with the writing.
How much is it to get in? I’ll be in Tokyo in a few months’ time, and one of the guys I’m travelling with celebrates his birthday on the day we arrive too. Something tells me we’ll have to make a Tokyo Tower detour to buy him some cake…
But yeah, great pics. It’s now on my list of places to visit!
Aw, I like the night shots as well. Looks like time was well spent with enjoyable and cute activities. ^^
Did you actually go to Tokyo or did you steal screenshots from Bladerunner? I’m looking at the pictures and wondering what happened to the flying cars.
@schneider: You’d have less, and more, problem as a guy riding the train in Japan, methinks. Have to make sure your hand is kept in your pocket or holding something else, just so you won’t be easily accused of being a chikan! (heard stories from our sensei) And I hateeee our commute system(?) here, but oh well, I managed to adapt to it now.
@totali: you make me want to watch Nana!
And you don’t have to tell me that I fail for not having watched Nana
@Martin: the entrance fee is 820 yen. Not sure about the entrance to the special observatory, but it’s around 600-800+ yen, I think. The free birthday cake and entrance fee should be more than enough reason for you to visit it!
And yeah, it’ll be great to visit at night/until nighttime
@Rah’ra: flying cars– WHUT? o.O And who/what the heck is Bladerunner?
I did go to Tokyo and I personally took these pics, and I feel honored that thought my pics were so great you even mistook it to be stolen from some ‘professional’ site or taken by a professional photographer or something
Wow…nice pics…I hope I can go to Japan someday…..
I was planning to go there on a Sunday morning, right after Mass – there’s a chapel run by the Franciscans in Roppongi not too far from the Tower. Judging from these shots, though, it’s probably best to return at night.
I try to avoid commuting here as much as possible, for reasons you can sympathise with. I do remember my first morning rush-hour commute on the MRT, just a few days ago. Unbearable.
Ohhhh, the sweat!
@Diego: nighttime, definitely, wouldn’t want to miss out the awesome night lights!
lol, not sure with you, but I eventually got used to our grueling MRT/LRT ride! Turned me into quite a ‘fighter’
Sounds like you girls had fun! The “look-down” picture reminds me of the time I was in the Macau Tower. People were reacting the same way, LoL.
Wow, I love to see those places.
