Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 8 – Can We Handle The Truth, Like Seriously?

Ok, enough Tokyo Magnitude lulz. You guys probably want to strangle me now for poking fun at the show.

Seriously though, I don’t want Yuuki to die, like hell who’d want such an adorable little kid to die?! He’s got a bright future ahead of him, and I can’t wait to see what a fine young adult he’ll become, the same way Wakaba thought of Kou in Cross Game.

I wonder what kind of adult Yuuki will become? Will we even get to see that, or hope we could?

Up until a few days ago, I was SO SURE that there’s no way Yuuki can die, hence this post. I thought Newtype was my saving grace because the summaries for episode 8 and 9 goes (not a word-by-word accurate translation):

Episode 8 – “…Mirai and Mari anxiously awaits the result of Yuuki’s operation. Mirai wakes upand finds Yuuki all live and genki. Once again, the three continues on their journey home…”

Episode 9 – “…with the help of Mirai and Yuuki, Mari is reunited with her family in Sangenjaya”

So I thought, if Mirai and Yuuki helps Mari in episode 9, that’d mean that Yuuki is alive, yes? But for some reason, even the Japanese viewers raised their doubts, primarily due to the observations of other people. Perhaps now they’re thinking, Yuuki could help Mari in his spirit, or something. It’s either the viewers are being trolled, or the viewers are trolling, and there’s no way we can find out the truth until we’ve seen the rest of the episodes.

Yuuukkiiiiiii~~~

Both hashihime and ghostlightning appreciated the vagueness of this episode, in that it allowed its very viewers to be involved in the situation, feeling the very confusion that the very characters might be feeling at this point.

Props to the producers if they really had this in mind, otherwise if the confusion stemmed from a badly written episode, or not being able to employ whatever animation techniques or narrative style (uh I don’t really know what the heck I’m talking about here) to distinguish the dream from the real deal, it’s certainly FAIL (yume-OCHI as the Japanese viewers call it, FAILDREAM in our terms). Now if it turns out to be a FAILDREAM, then that would mean that Yuuki is alive in this episode, hurray let us rejoice and throw brickshats at the GENIUS MINDS behind episode 8!

aiya, I’m really torn about this. I want Yuuki to live, but I’d feel betrayed if he turns out to be alive all this while, since that’d mean all the confusion and vagueness was not intended in the first place -_-

Episode 9 is but a few minutes (hours for the raw/sub) away, then we’ll get to see the Truth.

  1. Sometimes the line between troll and trolled is thin indeed.
