My Animusic ‘Blues Chaser’

Thanks to my melancholic mood for the last couple of days, I came up with a list of my ‘10 Favorite Anime Music Blues Chasers’, also in response to adaywithoutme’s ‘Anime Music to Listen to When Depressed’. What better way to fight melancholy but drown yourself in music, right?

I rarely talk about music in this blog, and now I’m finally giving you the chance to judge my taste in music! Anyways, let’s cut the crappy intro and move on to those songs!

Mou Nakanaide – Azusa Senou (Ranma 1/2 OP)

Yuuki 100% – Hikari Genji (Nintama Rantarou OP)

Arashi no Naka de – Chihiro Yonekura (Gundam 08th MS Team OP)

Sora – Hayama Takeshi (Chuuka Ichiban! / Cooking Master Boy OP)

13-gatsu no Shukumei – Fence of Defense (El Hazard: The Alternative World OP)

Daijoubu – Aki Maeda (Boys Be OP)

SUPER DRIVE – Kotani Kinya (Gravitation OP)

Little Wing – JAM Project (Scrapped Princess OP)

Houki Boshi – Younha (Bleach ED)

Changes – Baseball Bear (Toshokan Sensou ED)

Runner Ups

And for 15 more Blues Chasers that I can’t seem to include in the above list:

Niji to Taiyou no Oka – Piyo Piyo (Ranma 1/2 ED)
My Friend – Zard (Slam Dunk ED)
Kimi ni Naka no Eien – Takehide Inoue (G Gundam ED)
Asu e no Yuuki – Keiko Yoshinari (Magic Knight Rayearth ED)
Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku – Zard (Dragonball GT OP)
Nanka Shiawase – Oystars (Flame of Recca OP)
Aoi Sora ni Deatta – Arisa Tsujio (Cooking Master Boy ED)
Ashita ni Todoke – Like Uncolored Velvet (Power Stone OP)
Butter-fly – Kouji Wada (Digimon OP)
Dive Into Shine – Lastier (Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne OP)
Itazura na Kiss – Day After Tomorrow (InuYasha ED)
Sunday – The Babystars (Yakitate Japan ED)
DAYS – FLOW (Eureka Seven OP)
Kimi, Meguru, Boku – Hata Motohiro (Itazura na Kiss OP)
Namida – 2BACKKA (Skip Beat ED)

…and that’s it for my list. You didn’t really expect me to comment on each and every one of those songs now, did you?

Hope you like them as much as I do! List exchange, anyone? :3

  1. Excellent, I will need to take a look at these and add some to my playlist.

There are some songs that I enjoy and are rather upbeat:
    Allegro Cantabile (Nodame Cantabile)
Beautiful Day (Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru)
    Colorful Days (Minami-ke)
Hishoku no Sora (Shakugan no Shana)
    Musou Uta (Utawarerumono)
    Sentimental (Midori no Hibi)

  2. ZOMG BLASTS FROM THE PAST!!!!
Seriousy though, why does it seem like they don’t make ‘feel happy’ ‘blue chasing’ songs like they did a while back ago? Going down your list there’s a slight sense that there used to be a time where you could find a whimsical fun fluffiness in anisongs that could put a :-) :D :o  on your face instantly (usually bcos of nostalgia more than anything else) which at some point got replaced by poppy/rocky tunes with a heavier sense of “hey, this has to be marketable!” and even the fluffy tunes of nowadays are most moe heavy :?: Or is it just in my head?

  3. Argh! We BGMers are going to be drowned in lyrics again!

  4. @Misu: ohhh yes Allegro Cantabile!! That slipped my mind, no excuses TT__TT Thanks for your list! Will definitely check those out :3

@issa-sa: It’s like they disappeared together with those lyrics we used to see in the opening and ending sequences!! D: It’s not just you…

@Shance: lol BGM-ers, that what they call them now?

  5. From the song selection I’m guessing blues chasers = chase away the blues. If so, here’s a few things I listen to accomplish that effect.

Akira Mitaka – Coktail (Spiral ED)
Long Shot Party – Ano hi Time Machine (Zoku Natsume OP)
    Back-on – Flower (Eyeshield 21 ED)
Souichiro Hoshi – Shining Tears (OP)
Megumi Nakajima – What ’bout my star (Macross F Insert)

  6. Ah, these songs bring memories…

I have not heard Houki Boshi before – that’s a nice song :)

  7. I agree on Nanka Shiawase and Sunday!! hehehe

Edit: Include the ones from EL Hazard and Boy’s be as well!!!

errr a tidbit on Nanka Shiawase…

there was a time during college that Mcdonald’s Katipunan was having as its muzak Anime themesongs…
I was not really aware of it but it became my LSS for serveral weeks. I really could not remember the title because it was mostly instrumental and really on low volume.. Then one casual day, the normal version played and it was actually the Recca soundtrack! hehehe.. see its possible to have anime OST be played in establishments not related to Japanese.. wahahah

I guess the manager at the time was an otaku at heart! XD

  8. @Shiro, Long Tail’s: ohh, those are completely off my radar, except for the Eyeshield one! Loved that song, shame that I forgot T_T Need to listen to more recent animusix

@Kitsune: glad you liked Houki Boshi! Quite the genki-revitalizer, that song ^^

@maAkusutipen: oh, and did you know that one who sang that song from El Hazard was also the one who sang the B’tX opening theme?

and wow at that Nanka Shiawase encounter (何か幸せな偶然? lol) When did that happen anyways? I don’t think they do that now :( All I can remember hearing are anime theme song-ripoffs… like this Tagalized version of X-Japan’s Forever Love (Renz Verano I think, totally ewwww), english version of the Dango Sankyoudai opening song, also the english version of that theme song from Chibi Maruko-chan, which I usually hear in UFO catchers as well (Odoru Ponpokorin) :P

  9. Some of my favorites are
Kimi iro Omoi (Akazukin Chacha Op1)
Cha Cha Ni Omakase (Akazukin Chacah Ed2)
    Moonlight Densetsu (Sailor Moon Op1)
    Carnival Babel (Blue Seed Op)
Rock ‘n’ Roll Princess (Full Moon Op2)
Yakusoku no basho e (Kaleido Star Op2)
    Real Identity (Kaleido Star Ed1)
Watashi wa Candy (Candy Candy Op)
Kimi no Kaze (Daddy Long Legs Ed) Probably my favorite, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmH6bTToWO8

  10. Now THAT’s the blast in the past. Kimi Iro Omoi holds a special place in my heart too. I think I’ve ‘mentally grouped’ that with Yuuki 100%, can’t think of one without the other. I haven’t listened to the ED song enough to even remember how it was like, fail D:

I’m surprised you got Moonlight Densetsu there! It’s one of those really nostalgic songs for me that I’d love to karaoke, but not so much a fave. I love Tuxedo Mirage and Watashi-tachi ni Naritakute from the image album more than the theme songs xD Oh and out of all the Sailormoon theme songs, I like the Sailorstars ED (Kaze mo Sora mo, Kitto) best, fairly slow so I didn’t include it here hehe.

Love Rock n’ Roll Princess and ‘I Love You’ From FMoS :3

I am sooo missing Kaleidostar in my theme songs collection! Have to add the other ones you mentioned there too. Thank you!

  11. Yea, most of the Sailor Moon and Chacha songs hold a special place in my heart because those anime came along in the early and mid 1990’s and made me love anime again.

While I found Kaze mo Sora mo, Kitto to be a beautiful and moving song it’s a little too sad for my liking. To me the song symbolises the foreboding of war and pain, and the ending of Usagi’s innocence, she knows that in the future her life as a carefree young schoolgirl is over and she’ll never be able to return to those days.

If you need those Kaleido Star songs send me a email and I can send you those MP3s.

  12. Kaze mo Sora mo Kitto is indeed a little melancholic (mono no aware?), but wow, I sure never saw it that way… what the song means vis-a-vis Usagi.

Got the Kaleido Star songs now via gendou. Thanks for the offer! ^^

  13. Oh man… El Hazard! I totally forgot about that one… Wow, the memories.

I love this post. Listening to anime music is probably the easiest, fastest way to make your day 500 times better. My list would probably start with, yes it’s cliche, but I’m gonna have to say

Change the World – V6 (isn’t it?) 1st Inuyasha OP

And then I suppose anything from the Honey & Clover OST; as well as both Natsume Yuujinchou OPs. Totally agree on ‘Changes’. Jeesh I keep thinking of more.

It’s Gonna Rain – Bonnie Pink (Rurouni Kenshin ED)
    All Rurouni Kenshin OPs
Tsubasa – Battle Athletes Victory OP
Puzzle – NHK ni Youkoso! OP (Lol, the ED too)

Okay I have to stop. I’ll go think about it on my own now.

  14. oh and Chris: The Kaleidostar OP is by Chihiro Yonekura KYAA~! Wow I fail, should’ve looked for her songs much sooner XD

@jeanniex1: aww glad you liked this. Change the World and V6 <3! My brother has the ringtone of that for like… yearsss now haha. Its reminiscent of those 90s genki songs which I’m really fond of X3 Was thinking of adding It’s Gonna Rain here too, but figured it’s the kind of song that makes me go “jazzeh~!” and sing, not really “OMG This makes me feel ALIVE! O_O!” kind XD

Thanks for your list! There’s more coming, I suppose? :P

  15. Well… I want to go do a post now too ::-*:

  16. Try something else besides anime. It sounds like you’re trying to cure scurvy by eating more meat.

Have I recommended Rammstein yet? May I recommend it to you again?

    Consider:

    “Love is a wild animal
It breathes you it looks for you
    It nests upon broken hearts
and goes hunting when there are kisses and candles
It sucks tightly on your lips
and digs tunnels through your ribs
    It drops softly like snow
First it gets hot then cold in the end it hurts.”

    - Rammstein, “Amour.” English translation.

How many anime songs have lines that can compare to THAT?

Posted by Marigold Ran | November 27, 2009, 5:54 pm
  17. @jeanniex1: gogogogo~! :D

@Marigold Ran: eh, but these are just the ‘anime’ ones among my other Blues Chasers. And in this case, I don’t particularly care about the lyrics, because the melody itself is enough to make me happeh~! :P

I listened to Rammstein’s Amour, and I’m afraid this is the kind of song that’ll make me all the more emo, instead of bringing back my lively state T_T

    Posted by usagijen | November 28, 2009, 11:29 pm
  18. But… but… that’s the point behind the song! Catharsis! Emo = happiness. The song is supposed to make you more emo. It’s when people DON’T feel enough emotions per day that they become unhappy. For example, when they watch something and feel like they should be enjoying it but aren’t, that’s called unhappiness.
