Thou Shall Not Mess With .htaccess
Oops I did it again…

If you visited the blog recently, then you would’ve been plagued by 404 errors all over the place. But rest assured, people, the situation is under control. The blog wasn’t hacked (though I thought of the possibility, and panicked a little, until I realized what really caused it) it was just uhh– messed by yours truly. Been working on the new buggy theme for the last couple of days, and thought I’d tweak the .htaccess file to load the post images on my local server– and forgot to bring it back to the way it was.
So yeah, Golden Rule: don’t mess around with your .htaccess file. It might be < 1KB, but it holds the power to mess up your entire blog, sorta.
Oh and Happy New Year everyone!! Though I won’t consider this officially a New Year until I’m done with the theme revamp *shakes fist* Or until after I’ve posted my 2010 resolutions. Better late than never, right?

Right on! Very dangerous/powerful little file. I really try to limit messing around with it, but sometimes you do have to poke.
Hahaha, I love .htaccess. It’s damn useful, it is. But yes, one wrong move and no one can access anything! (Or anyone can access anything! <_<)
Yeah, I’ve been wondering what’s going on with your blog lol. .htaccess are finicky little things. One little extra space or character here or there is all it takes to mess up an entire site. But on the other hand there are lots of neat things you can do with them.
I have lost hours and hours of life over a simple .htaccess error. Damn cheeky things can create havoc, so small and yet so powerful! So glad that you sorted it out, the site looks great!
I was wondering myself what’s continuously happening to the site: Comments fail to get posted, the loading time after comments is kinda long, and some parts of the site takes too much time to load. Maybe it’s due to .htaccess (seriously, I haven’t tinkered it one bit since I got my blog, so I dunno)?
Also, is it me, or did the Touhou hijack van come here?
LOL! I remember trying to modify my .htaccess to run a test on hotlinking protection. Nothing went wrong on my side; but the other people who are sharing the same host as I am were getting 404 errors like you. Powerful file indeed.

I also learnt this bitter lesson firsthand and now keep several backups of the root .htaccess
yeah, I wouldn’t dare tweak stuff like this without the assurance that I can get things back to the way it was. Far too dangerous!
Your blog used to load rather sluggishly for me, it seems better now. I doubt it has anything to do with the .htaccess file, though. That’s mainly for directory control.
